if pushed hard i guess i fit myself in 4. though thats not really the quintessence of how i chose my avatar usually i'll do 1 of 2 things: either i chose a Role to play and then try to make the avatar resemble the characteristics of the role (ok, that does sound like 4^^) OR what i usually do is cycle through all hair and costume options once, to see whats there, then i hit random for 10 minutes till a face pops up that i really like, then i improve that (basically i try to remove everything which i dont like. i dont have a goal i work towards, i have a "GOD, NOT THAT!" that i try to stay away from as much as possible) (hope that makes sense^^) then i chose the hair that i liked the most and then i hit accept.^^ so, i think you should add option 7, going for the least bad avatar that you can

Your right its serious business, so when we are told its gonna change and we wont be able to recreate our faces as is, it makes me a very sad panda indeed

Well, there is the Jin-Mei of Gallente so I guess CCP acknowledges that Asians do exist sans the Brownies. If anything, CCP acknowledges that African Americans can't fly spacecrafts. Hello? Jorde La'Forge.
I chose #5 though I'm asian in RL too
All 4 bloodlines introduced in the "Bloodlines" patch are supposed to be of Asian descent (Achura, Jin-Mei, Khanid & Vherokior).
edit:
Quote: RMR will introduce four new Asian bloodlines: The Achura, citizens of the Caldari State and expert scientists; the Jin-Mei, members of the Gallente Federation renown for their legendary leadership traits; the Khanid of the Amarr Empire, the primary fighter-warriors of their culture; and the Vherokior of the Minmatar Republic, the established manufacturers and engineers of the tribes.

This. And all male players with female avatars who don't admit to this are lying.

First char started off with giving 1. a try. Ended up with 2. and thought this to be silly. Compromised on 4.
Next char is 5. all the way.
Others chars are mostly 6.
If I had known back then that all the faction rabble on char creation is meaningless and it really isn't any more than "Pick 'ya noggin" i'd prolly have ended up with a *ermh* Caldari officer.

Originally by: Lord Wamphyri Edited by: Lord Wamphyri on 17/11/2010 17:38:39 Ok, so a lot of us have now had a play with the prototype of the new character creator on SISI.
But I'm curious - when you design your avatar, what is your motivation for making it look the way it does?
The way I see it, most people will fall into one of these categories;
- An Avatar that resembles yourself in RL
- An Avatar that resembles an ideal vision of yourself in RL
- An Avatar that resembles a celebrity
- An Avatar that embodies the characteristics of your in game persona
- An Avatar that is the embodiment of an ideal lust object, that you would drag to bed if it existed in RL
- A combination of some of the above
So.. which is yours? And have I missed any?
good question sir
for my primary identity
an Avatar that resembles an ideal vision of myself in RL
an Avatar that embodies part of my in game characteristics and goals (i.e. science and exploration and perfection)
for my secondary acc - a nice looking, open and straight person, ideal for making impressions on others just by the looks of the avatar. Nice, fair industry girl, who noone would ever kick out of the corp. (role play nice)
for my tertiary acc - pure roleplay, fierce unforgiving amarrian, covops / tyrant. With high pro amarrian values, and imperial attitude. Not even close to anything, but pure in game roleplaying.

interesting question, this.
myself... originally i as just trying to make something look "cool" as it were, that would fit with the play style i envisioned. with the new editor, and knowing how i actually play now (heh) well, actually... not much difference, really. i go for the whole han solo srcuffy looking, able to handle himself sort.

3. is closest, but not really applicable since its a literary character.
I wanted my avatar to look somewhat like Captain Nemo from Jules Verne's novels, kind of nautical and stuff hence all the blue and the goldfish-bowl helmet.

I don't create avatars. I create characters. The difference? An avatar represents you, as the player. A character is a fictional person that you play as, distinct from yourself. -----SIGNATURE-----

I generally try and give them the nicest rump I can since I will be spending most of my time looking at that part of their anatomy over the course of the next few years.
Here's to hoping for adjustable buttocks in the new character creator.

1,4,5
If I can make 'me' I generally will but much more often than not I can't character creation is still very much limited to stupid ass stereotypes that I don't fit in and customization is a joke.
If I have an idea for a 'character' as in who they will be I'll try to make that, if not I simply go for and idealized version of a person.

So far the new avatar creator has made me feel meh.
As soon as they include blind/white eyes then I may start to like it somewhat.

I constructed a neat little backstory for myself that doesn't really matter to anyone, and then went through the character creation thing until I had a character that fit.

Edited by: Wrayeth on 27/11/2010 21:31:02 I had two items in mind when creating my avatar:
First, I wanted to create someone who didn't look too particularly nice (since I intended to spend my time blowing other players up), but at the same time didn't look inherently evil.
Secondly, I wanted an avatar that didn't have perfectly chiseled features. I'm tired of everyone trying to make themselves look perfectly handsome or beautiful since I'm sick of the shallow "appearances are everything" attitude in real life. In my RL interactions, I've quite often found there's far more to just about anyone than you'd suspect at first glance. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I had jusst made my character when I started but it has grown on me and it became my alter ego ingame. Now with the new character creation I'm gonna try to make a char that looks as much as my old char as my current protrait. I don't want to lose my face

For most characters in most games I tend to randomize all until I hit upon a set up that looks good, and I tweak and optimize it from there. Sometimes I make a character that vaguely resembles me, but there's no one who wants to look at that, so I generally avoid it.
