Hello pilot's,
I was reading PC Gamers. I came across an article for a new MMO CCP is coming out with called World of Darkness. The game is labelled as a political and social interaction game. The details were sparse. The article says it's all about vampires but will venture later into other types of characters such as Werewolves and possibly mummies. I was wondering if there was more information about this game.

Edited by: Ebisu Kami on 18/11/2010 08:57:44 ... It's going to utilize the Incarna graphics-thingamabob. It's based on the pen&paper RPG system called *drumroll* World of Darkness. That's about it.

Can we exchange our characters between both games - being a vampire spaceship pilot would be refreshing! Would also allow for some very nice fan vids!!

Be careful what you wish for, as all those (in their minds) awesome PvP kiddies, would be even more of a pain in the neck.

You have that the wrong way round. The Incarna expansion will make use of the graphics package designed for World of Darkness.

What's first? Incarna or WoD-MMO? Moreso, should I actually care about this entirely pointless detail?

The World of Darkness is a group of Pen and Paper roleplaying games developed by White Wolf.
The first Editions Featured "Vampire the Masquerade" which was a game where you played...you guessed it...Vampires in a world of social intrigue and corruption etc.
Later White Wolf introduced Werewolf the Apocalypse, Mage the Ascension where you played respective Werewolves and Mages as well as the "Dark Ages" Versions of all 3, the most famous being Vampire again. Supplements for Eastern Vampires, Changelings, Demons, Mummies, Wraiths, Hunters followed as well but were never as popular (or playable....)
A few years back White Wolf killed the old storyline of and introduced Vampire: Requiem, later supplements for Mage, Werewolf, Changeling etc.. followed after under new storyline new background etc. The MMORPG will be based on the former editions though.
As the various systems are compatible but NOT interchangeable I'd really hate to see them mixed up. Vampire being a game of intrigue and corruption, Werewolves as a spiritual "Beings of Gaia fight against the Wyrm", Mage a "chosen Humans get the ability to change the reality by their will" etc arent really that similar in concept...
Especially as Werewolve may be the only one suitable for a classic MMORPG of Questing and killing stuff. I am curious how CCP will solve the problems that come with trying to get a game like Vampire into a MMORPG form....I doubt its possible to do well (for my taste).

Between this, Dust and paying off Atari royalties I doubt they have any money for Eve game updates or fixes
Another Game company abandons what they do best and fails miserable 15+ years of mmo seen this before SOE for example makes a card game instead of creating EQ3 and now EQ2 is going FTP because of there fail
Wonder if this expansion is really going to come out this month already past the halfway point ? They said nov 2010 or did they spend all there money on vampire the fail, dust the fail and Atari the Pimpdaddie?

Well, as a long time Vampire:Requiem game master (yes sorry, I play Requiem, so what =P) I think CCP is the only company that could handle a concept like World of Darkness and do it right. So I'm quite happy.
Wouldn't mind to see the Mage background added at some point though. It was more dark and intense than what the title may suggest.

WoD is less sparkly *****try, and more Underworld/Blade/Van Helsing ultra-violence. Although I suspect that the violence parts will be toned down a bit at the altar of ESRB.

If you don't have pen-and-paper traditional games brosefs to experience WoD games with, at least go to Steam (or wherever) and buy Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines. You'll at least get some idea of what the fuss is all about. It's good stuff and I genuinely think it's in good hands with CCP.
Much like Deus Ex, the mere mention of that game prompts someone somewhere to reinstall it.

You're joking right? Everytime I've played Vampire the Masquefail I've sat there for hours wondering wtf is going on. The game, the story, the mechanics are all ****e. There is nothing better than stabbing random people in the eye, while walking down the street of some hostile town, simply because you feel like it, the to proceed to destroy the town because someone mispronounced your name.
Eberron beats all and anyone who disagrees hasn't played a good Evil campaign, with a DM who plays a sociopathic, psychopathic, delusional, Elf wannabe king who thinks he's god. Chaotic Evil Sorcerer with 30+ Bluff checking in... I'd love to see your Vamgays beat my lying

I don't know about Masquerade but following Vampire:Requiem I managed to freak my friends out to the point of no sleeping, and some of them actually requested to be taken out of the campagin.
I'm talking about adult people here. Then again, I tried to turn my campaings into an ARG of sorts =).

Then I must have had a bad GM. I never played the game as a teenager, only as adult but my DM in D&D used to keep us dying for out next game and I used to log into EVE then open the DM books and start thinking of ways to make him pay for the things he'd done to me that Monday. He was evil, very evil and none of the characters in the game trusted me and, in fact, they hated me. He declared I was one of the most unpredictable, odd and weird players he'd ever played with and I miss him greatly now
I have some of the old recordings, as he used to record the sessions, and I still listen to them from time to time. The way that man described the Eldritch machine he conjured up with Wish brings tears to my eyes. This half naked, gay, insane Wizard describing his conjuration... man... that was amazing and I still sit there in total and utter
Anyway, I'd never quit a good campaign like that. But my Vampgay DM really had me sitting there through the sessions thinking "WTF IS GOING ON HERE???" and "WTF AM I ****ING DOING HERE???" Man... it was boring and bad.
