Originally by: Eyes McGee In all fairness, this is the MMO that's most likely to tear me away from EVE personally. If the Beta will ever start, that is :/
Meh... I think that until they release some real information, and not just the occasional screenshot, JGE is complete vaporware. They planned a 2010 launch, and realized quite a ways through that what they had was completely broken. So they had to almost start over. Even if it does come to fruition, its going to be in 2012. Black Prophecy has more of a chance to be a threat to EvE in the near-term.
Which raises an interesting question: what kind of game could be an EvE killer? My sense is that people don't only play this game because it's sci-fi, spaceship themed. I doubt many of us will cancel our EvE subs when Star Wars launches. An EvE killer would have to be a dark, edgy, technically complex sci-fi game that, for whatever reason, is more fun to play than EvE. EvE 2 anyone? |

X MMO is going to kill Y mmo, ahh the classic and overly repeated posting on MMO forums. Everquest is still kicking so that proves MMOs never die unless they are absolute crap(Most that try to enter the market) or are run by EA(Earth and Beyond for not being a Madden game...). |

Originally by: 0oO0oOoOo0o Just wanted to know, as today in 6-7 hours from now is the launch day of an rival MMO that is VERY similar to EVE: are you devs shivering, because it might kill EVE, or are you rather relaxed, hoping that it will have a horrible launch, go down in lag or fail one way or another ?
Shivering? no, it's quite warm in the office. I'm quite relaxed :)

I truly fail to see how any game can destroy EVE.
EVE's got a decade of development behind it and a level of depth that brings. To try and cram that much of a game in a new release is entirely impossible.
Any 'EVE Killer' that attempted to match this depth would die because the playerbase would both be overwhelmed, and never get off the ground because every dev knows that half the stuff they cram in would never be used because there wasnt the slow, incremental building that's required to introduce soo many features/much depth. ----------------- Friends Forever |

There is a niche for a 'twitch' interface space mmo - manual joystick flight control. Black Prophecy is going to release its beta client soon. I have a beta key from them. But their account management system is ******ed - cant get my beta key processed grr

Some people have been in closed beta for a month if not longer. Can't say more, pesky NDA's. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008
