Edited by: Culmen on 19/11/2010 07:33:17 Show of hands... who here knows what ancestry their CEO picked? For that matter, how many of you can tell me the ancestry you picked without looking?
Ancestry is a purely vestigial feature. It does NOTHING! CCP has systematically removed every shred of gameplay effect it has. Even bloodlines at least cause a different portrait to be generated.
The blurb says build your character back story off it... This is dumb for 3 reasons 1) It's confusing for noob, who might think it means something in game 2) Nobody else can see it. 3) Even if they could, it does nothing but constrain your character's role play options.
My recommendation is this. Since CCP is revamping the entire character creation process. Just cement over the entire thingy and remove all reference to it. Which as far as I'm aware of consists of one reference on your character sheet.
Nobody, would notice, except the people in new citizen Q&A, who might note a slight decrease in the "I'm a Caldari Deties Tube Child, what should I do" threads.
Now if ancestry actually does do something, then for god sakes, name it as such and tell us more. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

I'm being a sleepy troll, my bad, i usualy don't do that.
It isn't an important thing to game play, but, does it matter?

The only argument you presented that's even remotely convincing is, it might confuse a noob.
Given the sheer number of other, far more, confusing things in this game as far as new players are concerned, I'm not sure I see the point. --Vel

Edited by: Malaclypse Muscaria on 19/11/2010 17:30:05 When I open up my character window, I like reading there that I'm a "Cyber Knight".
That just sounds so f*cking cool. It's like a Jedi Knight, but Cyber.
It reminds me of the first time I ever set foot on the internets, when I was dropped onto a plain black terminal window with a blinking white prompt, and a message saying "You are now in Cyberspace". Back in the time of Mondo 2000 magazine, when "Cyberspace" and "Virtual Reality" were thrown around as incantations that evoked Neuromancer-grade dystopian societies, underground hacking, and mutating AIs that self-evolved in some forgotten corner of Pentagon mainframes plotting to take over humanity.
I didn't know what the hell to do with that plain black terminal, and closed it down after a number of failed attempts at prying open the enticing secrets it seemingly held, but damn... I had been in "Cyberspace".
So, no.

It seems less an issue with the ancestry existing, and more a call for moar argh pee in Eve. The original reason I wanted to be a merc is being an ultracapitalist militant mercenary sounded fun.
+1 for more arghpee, -1 for taking my merc background away.

Wow, the first two poster's portraits make them look like twins separated at birth. If anything, that's more of an argument FOR ancestry. Maybe CCP should make ancestry have an affect on things like available hairstyles and clothing styles to choose. Furthermore, it should have some sort of affect on gameplay, such as interaction with agents etc. as well as make it visible by adding it to the bio when others info you.
For the record, Im a member of the Intaki artists. Im happy to not be a test-tube baby or one of the yakkity diplomats. I dont RP, but I like that the background is there. While I agree that ancestry is currently useless, but removing it is dumb. If anything there needs to be MORE customization in terms of ancestry to give those RP'ers something to play with. I only feel sorry for those sad sad individuals who chose Achura bloodlines so much. ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

I like the ancestry thing and CCP other attempts to create story. It's a pity though that it hasn't any ingame effect anymore.
Maybe it should give a standing boost with agents of the same ancestry, or access to an 'ancestry' specific epic arc.
