Howdy.
Tried a round of suicide ganking in a busy 0.5 pipe today with some corpies in a destroyer and gank cruiser.
A couple hundred scan later, we still don't see anything that is a viable target. Eventually, most of us are ready to go play some minecraft. Doin it wrong? A few good targets but they went to the wrong gate. Most simply were deadheading, or went to a less traveled gate. Far too many were carrying unsellable travel mission loot. Plenty of folks put a good tank on a viator of course. Some folks are just fast.
I kit up covops b/c mids. You know: sensor booster/passive/cargo & ship scanner. Scanning point was next door system, at the departure point in the empire pipe so I could see who would be warping to my target system. A stiletto might have been a better choice.
Is this par for the course, or are there better ways of doing this? Is having more people for scanning key or is having more gank ships to take out harder targets more important? Is it better to just kill people at random and take whatever fortune throws at you? - <3 + - </3. |

Edited by: podlol on 21/11/2010 00:21:35 How bout you just fit 1 arty apoc with scanner and gank as soon as you get a lock and scan if cargos good. Then have hauler pick it up.... Your wasting to much time with all that extra trash your saying. Just fit rack of artys on an apoc and lock/scan everything you see then 1 shot it.
TL;DR your doin it wrong brah
Edit: after you get back your insurance and assume 1/2 of the mods from your apoc back, you just need to make around 30-40 mill to cover the loss of the apoc dude. It sounds expensive to suicide in a BS but if you just get 25-40mill drop you break even at least.

Yeah but who wants to just sit in one place only to just break even? That's like worse than mining...
I find that the vast, vast majority of targets I scan in high sec for suicide attacks carry absolute garbage. The good ones as you say are fast or in tanked transport ships. You won't be making the big bucks unless you get lucky or are very efficient and can kill transport ships for a low cost. - It's not "Play through a pre-set story, become stronger, do endgame". Gameplay is open ended, and you make your own story. Unless you're too afraid of 'pvp grief' to do anything relevant |

The hardest job is target callers he's got seconds to lock an aligning itty get the fit/cargo scan off, digest sometimes hundreds of items in a hard to read format and have the market knowledge to make the call all while watching to see the itty warps to right gate and missing other possible good targets in meanwhile
I noticed I could spend ages going over crap-to-read lists 500 kinds of frikking ammo and rat loot and burried in the middle I might notice a few things worth 500+m on the 3rd pass by then he's halfway to next gate

Yep this.
When I haul I generally devote 20% of my cargo space to utter crap separated into small stacks. I make sure that no matter how you sort the cargo there is always a massive amount of crap cluttering up everything. Even if you get my ship I can be assured that I gave someone a headache.

i have just started to do suicides as a side line in making money in 2 days i've killed 2 haulers and netted 800mil for my trouble not massive amounts in the grand scheme of thing but enough to certainly make me come back for more.
i limit myself purely to the afk haulers that come in on auto to my target system scan with my itty and sit at a mid point ss with my bs half way between the 2 gates in the next system my hauler follows them to the out bound i wapr in pop them and scoop the loot and bugger off.
it works quite well so far... I missed a 5bil viator last night on auto pilot hauling 500 nanoribbons and assorted other very expensive wh loot gutted :(
tonight i scored a 300mil badger kill all while my corp mates are grinding complexes and hoping for the golden faction spawn

You really don't need to be wasting battleships to do this either - a hurricane with six t1 arty and 4-5 meta 1 gyros has enough firepower to pop t1 haulers, and after insurance will only cost you about 8mil.

*shrug* items have the same volume regardless whether or not they're stacked. So I try to keep the crap in station warehouses when not in use that way I don't have to waste time separating everything into small stacks. It's already done once and I leave it that way. So when I finally get to my destination I take the entire contents of the hold and put it into a station warehouse and then sort by alphabetic and then take out the non-crap.
Actually what I find to be vastly amusing is to switch to a pvp alt, hop in a gank Hurricane and hang out at various high gank gates or stations. Jita is a favorite. Then I just hang there waiting for someone to do a gank and for the hauler to come on in to sweep the rewards.
Then I suicide gank the hauler.

Do large cargo cans count in that? Like, can they be scanned as well? Cause I've put stuff in large cans in my hauler before for organizational purposes. Wonder if thats picked up

It's be cool if it wasn't, yet you got ganked for it...
Get a wreathe, put a few cans in it, insure it, go autopilot all around jita then wait for the fools.

*shrug* I generally don't bother with cans. The idea is to make identifying stuff too time consuming to be worth it. Then again most anything that is really valuable I simply contract out. This way if a gank happens I get the collateral which is usually sell value + 20% = instant profit.
