I haven't yet tried the incursions sites on the test server but from all the hype and the new video release I figured look into it. So before getting started I did a video search for fleets running them and came across the a recording of a PvE fleet lead by CCP during mass testing of an incursion. I find the language used by CCP Manticore to describe how it works. He starts his brief at about 5:20
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBp0FDfMXj0&feature=related
Boss fights and proper rotations? Moving stuff around cans in order to disburse NPCs and hacking things in order to buff the group? In Eve? In the past Eve's big selling point is that they offer a unique gaming environment in contrast to games like World of Warcraft.
I'm curious to how people feel about this? Do you think this expansion will cause CCP to lose even more subscriptions than the last couple? Or will mimicking the high end PvE content of World of World craft or will it earn more subscriptions by providing a game play world that the much larger WoW subscriber base is familiar with?

Who cares, probably not gonna be too much difference. People aren't forced to do these sight if they don't want. If people leave it's because this big live-event is just a poor excuse for delaying walking in stations yet again and living up to the "two expansions per year", no matter how shallow.

Can we enter incursion sites and kill people just because we can?
If so, not many will care.

What is this "stupid post day"?
If you mean will it be group oriented pve that requires a degree of tactics - then yes its just like WOW.
If that basic and simple concept offends you - youre an idiot.
But if you mean will it require having completed a bunch of other prerequisite raids before hand, having specific complete sets of gears accumulated and an exactly chosen group of classes to complete - then no. Its nothing like WOW.
Of course if you thought this you are an idiot and cant read.
Either way it appears you are dummy.

Yeah WoW raids sound like a lot of prep in advance and you go to a specific area to accomplish whatever it is you want to accomplish. Incursion sounds like your favorite quiet backwater mining system just gets invaded, and either you help others "drive out" the Sanshas, or you find another backwater mining system. I have never played WoW beyond a free trial from a friend, so I have no idea how a raid works. This just doesn't sound like that.

Absolutely. Unless you're totally against including challenging Pve content in Eve, Incursions will make for a better game.

Incursion will be like WoW raids with the following.
A. You will be allowed to kill ANYONE, meaning if an enemy probes you down or w/e they can kill you
B. Because of the way EvE is the chance of seeing "LFG Incursion @ XXX" will hardly be seen, or do you really want to risk your ship by inviting ******s?
It is pretty much PvPvE incursions are no different than doing any other site / mission they are only harder and require team effort

Eh, you won't be allowed to kill anyone, pretty sure hisec still remains hisec and so LOLCONCORD spawns to kill you but not the sanshas.

We certainly don't want them trying to incorporate any similar features of the most successful MMO in the history of MMO's.
That would just be silly.

See the thing about good and bad is it is a very subjective idea.
While you and I might think it isn't good, 6 to 10 million people would most likely beg to differ.

Quality in any form of media is not directly proportional to the amount of sales or subscribers. Thought i write it out a bit better for you, it is only where it is because of the sheer amount of promotional material. A large portion of those people would prefer another game or form of entertainment that they are not aware of.

^^ Pretty much this. To put the expansion ↔ growth pattern of EVE into a perspective, the fact that Tyrannis didn't cause a significant bump in subscriptions, but just the same old steady increase, was considered fairly disastrous. If they had actually lost a sizeable chunk of subscribers on the last couple of expansions, you'd hear a whole lot of screaming from CCP right about now.
So yes, the expansion will cause more people to join ù they always do. Tyrannis was only disastrous in the way people didn't stick around for longer than the usual spike. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

The problem isn't that CCP is providing WOW-like content with Incursion. Players have asked for better PvE experience, and the fact that these disrupt normal empire carebear activities is a definite plus.
The problem is that there's very little PvP content in this and that CCP is basing their whole "expansion" around scripted NPC encounters. Goes completely against the whole vision for what EVE started out as and has been for a long time. ...

Nahà the problem is rather the opposite: as far as PvE goes, it's highly PvP:ish, and this has made a whole bunch of PvEers get their knickers in a twist: the fact that it won't necessarily happen in accordance to the script (unlike those WoW raids) and that someone might come and compete with them over "their" rewards.
It's far more in line with the rest of EVE than most of the PvE stuff EVE already offers. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

PVE needed something new, other then lol here do this mission.
I hope incursions are like wow raids, i played wow for about 6 months, and the best part, was the raids, 25 players, usually 3 tanks, 5 healers and a bunch of DPS had to work together to kill somthing that had more HP and DPS than the entire group many times over. i can see incursions now, 5 logistics, a few passive tanked NH's to pull initial aggro, some sniper apocs to provide DPS without dieing, at range they can probably kill frigs and cruisers with ease, have some other BS's attacking the main ship logistics working thier asses off to rep up the BS group and each other.
more non-pvp losses will be good, hell even if it is instanced it will be a great addition to eve. best part is, unlike wow, if you don't want to do it you dont need too, so stop *****ing

I don't agree, because these "scripted NPC encounters" won't exist in a vacuum. Just look at the 11 page thread of missioners complaining about how incursion systems will wreck their lives and stuff. There'll also hopefully be people directly and indirectly fighting over the Concord rewards, taking advantage of the Sansha gatecamps and cynojamming to do mean nasty pvp things to people, and all sorts of fun stuff.
Besides, you already got your pvp expansion with Dominion, and now its our turn :)

The information available to the public released by both CCP and at least one outside source show an increase in subscriptions rather than a decline.
Also you mentioned WoW.
0/10 for having to mention wow just to get replies.

Wait, more challenging encounters make it more WoW-like? Hardly. Sure, WoW is well known for the raiding content, but mechanics like that are common in a lot of MMOs. The way EVE will implement team-based encounters will be unique.
Yes, I admit it...I play WoW. However, that's because it's fun to play with people you know. So is EVE. Both games have their merits. Ever since I've gotten to the top tier of content in both games I don't really see why WoW is so terrible (as this thread clearly hints). Sure, you can't go and kill people doing a raid in WoW like you will be able to in EVE, but nothing stops you from killing people as they try to make it to the portals (in PvP realms).
To stay on topic...no, I don't think this will drive people away. If anything, it'll bring more people and encourage actual teamwork instead of soloing L4s in high-sec all day. On another note, I also have an annoying sig. |

First all, group PVE content, or raids, have been around way before WoW. Raids have been a staple of MMOs since the beginning of the genre
Why? Because all in all they're fun. It's fun to get your friends together and tackle a big challenge for a nice reward.
Are incursions going to be the same as other MMO raids? No. In most MMOs raids are totally instanced and are disconnected from the game world at large. Some games (like Aion) have PvPvE, but in a limited way. In Eve the raid is simply another feature in the universe. If someone wants to suicide gank your faction ship in an incursion, that can happen. If you're at war and you get raided by an enemy corp during an incursion, that can happen too. Incursion in low sec? Get ready for pirates. Incursion in 0.0? Get ready to get blobbed and lagged to death.
To me incursions are another toy to play with in the sandbox. A really nice shiny toy at that.

I expect Incursions will work like the world bosses (eg: the dragons, Kazzak) in WoW, when played on a PvP server. For an idea of how successful they're going to be, I'd have a look at all the MMOs which support non-instanced world-accessible content and free-for-all PvP.
