I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.10 yesterday, updated all my drivers, installed EVE and it was working fine last night.
The only problem I had was that there was a white square around my mouse pointer whenever i hovered over an item.
Someone in HELP chat said "Try going into windowed mode and see if that helps" So i enabled windowed mode the screen went black and everything froze. I couldnt even force-quit. So I restarted my PC, went to launch eve again and now it just launches a Black flickering screen which freezes my entire pc until i hit the power button.
Additional notes: I'm using an ATI Radeon HD4650 |

I just finished completely uninstalling and then re-installing all of my ati drivers to see if that was the cause but its still not working...

You will have to go into the ini files (sorry I don't know which one) and reset fullscreen to true.
The white box is an ati graphics bug.

I wish you could have posted that earlier, because I eventually just said "screw it" and re-installed EVE altogether lol. So is it not possible to run the game in windowed mode?

I run it in a virtual desktop created by WINE, this is then just a window you can move around.
The command looks like this:
wine explorer /desktop=1,1920x1080 /home/chris/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/eve.exe

I can confirm that this is the best way to go with a lot of games including Eve. By setting wine to run the game in full screen in a virtual desktop, it makes the game think it is in full screen mode, but because of the virtual desktop it is really in a window. Most games run a lot more stable with this configuration for whatever reason.
Then in the desktop shortcut for the game I use the following command to launch it:
wine explorer /desktop=1,1920x1150 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
The "desktop=#" is the virtual desktop number. You can use this to make multiple shortcuts, each with a different number, so you can spawn multiple eve clients, each in their own virtual desktop. Otherwise they will all spawn in the same desktop on top of eachother.
The screen resolution options, I usually set such that eve takes up the whole screen minus the task bar. I then have another desktop icon for my 2nd client which is sized to exactly fit my 2nd monitor.

Running eve in virtual desktop mode is also not working for me. It just loads the splash screen and nothing else. I'm using ubuntu 10.10 which is liekly whats causing a lot of my problems. Also has anyone been able to get sound working with ubuntu 10.10?

Perhaps that has to do with the bitscancelled issue. I know sometimes mine does splash and fail frequently, I have to kill the process and try again. Probably happens 50-75% of the time I startup eve.
