I got ganked and it was awesome.
I finally ventured into low sec 0.4 because I heard the rats there were a little tougher than the easy kills I was getting in 0.5. I was using a missile frigate Breacher. I just wanted to see what it was all about.
I killed one much harder rat (was a nice change of pace from high sec) and was working on another tougher one when three red square ôthingsö just stripped my shields, armour and hull and then strolled off, kind enough to leave my pod intact. I saw no message in chat log (whatever it is called) but donÆt really know where to look for anyway, since I have had no conversation with anyone in game ever.
I tried to flee but the message said something about my warp drive being inactive or something. This was my first time in low sec & PvP so I kind of panicked and had no clue as to who was doing this or what they were doing.
Is there a log that I can review to see what they did to me (I have no clue), what they used (ships & modules) and who actually did it, so I can perhaps join them in learning how to do this?
I like to rat in frigates, but was outmatched (am new to PvP & low sec, and low SP) but was wondering how others survive solo low sec in frigates (or do they even try). I am working on skilling up to get cloaking and associated skills.
I know I should find a player corp. but havenÆt as of yet and like to practice getting some skills solo.
I believe in the adage ôdonÆt fly what you canÆt afford to loseö, so I fly frigates instead of battlecruisers (which I can fly)
I have read a few PvP guides but would like a back and forth discussion / advice. This is a forum after all.
BTW My care bear tears where very salty

You character sheet has a section called "combat log" where you can view the details of your kills and deaths.

Find a system that you are all alone in. If you stop being all alone, move.

It's a sad truth that you can't get no solo kills when you are in a player corp.

You might want to put numbers in front of you questions. Quoting is not well supported.

One of the things I do is pull the "LOCAL" tab out of my chat apparatus, so there's one window with several tabs for the channels I'm in, and a separate window for LOCAL. LOCAL is not just a chat channel, it's also a valuable intelligence system that tells you who's in the star system with you. If nobody else is in LOCAL, then you're pretty safe.
There's an in-game Combat Log (in your character sheet). If you double-click the Breacher loss, you'll see relatively-unintelligible formatted text describing the fight. This is called a "killmail" because they used to come via evemail. What you normally do with this is copy the text and import it into a Killboard (web page) that displays the information in a style for easier viewing.
For example, your kill appears to have been posted to eve-kill.net by your assailant: http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=8116978
If you want more details, there's a Gamelog saved to your hard drive. On a Windows machine, go to My Documents > eve > logs > Gamelogs and open the one corresponding to the date of the fight. This shows you in detail who fired when, how much damage you took, and so on.

To the OP: Wow, it took 2 Dramiels, a Jaguar, and an Imperial Navy Slacer. Either you found some of the most cowardly pirates or you are one tough MUTHA!

It's awfully refreshing to see a newbie go 'WOW THAT WAS COOL' rather than 'OH NOES I LOST A SHIP'
The easiest way to avoid things like this is to watch local, and safe up/dock up whenever someone you don't know shows up. You can not do this and take your chances with PvP, but I'd really suggest engaging on *your* terms.
Would suggest skimming this, as it runs over some really important lowsec survival tips.
If you can afford to move up to cruisers, you might consider doing so. They rat in lowsec a lot more efficiently, and can handle more in terms of PvP (Gank Rupture, anyone?)
Also, looking for a player corp is sound advice. Might I recommend EVE Uni? ---

I really wish people wouldn't always, every single time, recommend joining a corp. That seems to be the holy bible around here. Join a corp or burn in hell.
Seriously though, I would join a corp to learn about the game, but you definitely do not have to be in one to have fun or PvP. I think there's a lot more reward for solo play than group play.

Edited by: Billy Colorado on 25/11/2010 17:21:14 Drakarin. It's a multiplayer game.
No holy bible, just good advice for those who wish to enjoy the game. The PvE game you're looking for isn't here.
You're right, you don't need to join a corp to have fun PvPing. It can be done solo. But a new player who doesn't know how doesn't stand a chance against older players. The older players run gangs, the new players run gangs. A new player will become quickly turned off of PvP if they're losing constantly. Or they'll formulate an odd rationale as to why they lost, or why they shouldn't have. Like you, for example.
Drak, just because you hold a particular opinion does not change the fact that you're wrong.

There are 4 pieces of advise i stand too 1. Set your overivew up right 2. Detach local and have it somewhere where you can see the people in local 3. Check local as you enter for any negitive places or people in pirate corps (anything neg 2 or below i would be aware of) 4. MOST important of all, learn how to use your directonal scanner at max range you get about 12au ( ithink, ive always asummed that lol) out of it,
i live by that ans swear by it. specialy as WH space you dont have local rofl
