You've shown us what a massive effect it had on server load, told us what a difference it made on the market and in everyone's gameplay, yet you've only done it once?
Bring it on, ban the bots.

They probably do this more regularly now so that there is no buildup/spike/drop. Or let the bots go in order to get those higher up on the foodchain. Is there even evidence of either approach being taken, or are you assuming some ships you saw are bots and thus CCP must be doing nothing? =D ______________________________

I survey some typical macro places. After a bot ban there's less than 30 players per system, then they start to increase up to double or triple that number till the next bans. Since weeks, in my reference system, there are more than triple the players than it should and we are in low online players hours. This means a new cleanup is REALLY overdue. - Auditing & consulting

Incursion will be one i reckon, drop an event in a heavy macro-mining belt and bam! problems reduced You guys make squeeky noises when you pop, and that's enough motivation as far as I'm concerned. |

Edited by: Jypsie on 24/11/2010 17:35:16 So can a bunch of Sansha ships insta-lock and scram/pop a Magnate before it warps off the gate?
Edit: I am really hoping that the Sansha belt rats + reduced tanking due to incursion effect means that macro hulks will get popped as well without active player support.

Just how often and or how many at one time are these incursions suppose to happen? Do we know?
It would be a nice fix for the 60+ ice mining hulks in my system (without haulers)but there is too many systems with macros in them for them to really worry about Sansha's every 2 years...if that.

I often wonder how many of these bots are actually bots. I work from home and mine anywhere between 10 and 16 hours per day. I do not use macros (don't even know how to go about it) and often don't respond to conversation requests simply because I don't care to have a conversation.
I have two computers at my desk, one devoted specifically for Eve mining and the other for everything else. Whenever I am at my desk, my main in his hulk and my second account in his retriever (or hauler depending on what I am mining) are out in the belts feeding the demand for minerals.
I am often accused of being a bot. I once was attacked by a supposed good samaritan who assumed I was a bot because I was "always online and always mining without ever talking in local or responding to his message requests." Apparently he didn't bother to research enough to understand that he couldn't chew through my shield before concord would come to give him a kiss.
I guess my point is, I think a good portion of these "bots" aren't bots at all. Not saying they aren't out there but it worries me that some of these "ban the bots" witch hunts will result in me being affected when all I am doing is playing the game my way.

Before you go all emo over your afk hulk, those posting here have a clue about how it works.
The 30 Macks that slowly become 90 till a mass ban then suddenly return 30 for 2 months... those are not the "I play my hulk on my 2nd computer" players.
The 9-12 Macks / Hulks piloted by pilots called Mjya_X01...Mjya_X12 all together and at the same times, are not the "I play my hulk on my 2nd computer" players as well. - Auditing & consulting

I must have missed the memo about posting a legitimate concern in a forum means one is "emo." Not entirely sure what that means but the kiddie lingo never really appealed to me so I'll just assume it is some kind of bird.
I also wasn't aware that everybody posting "has a clue" but I am willing to take you at your word for that. I have no reason to doubt you other than you are a bit hostile, but that is the language of the internet I suppose.
I do take issue with your implication that I am afk though. I would never leave any ship anywhere in space while not at my keyboard. I learned very early on that to do that was pretty much the same as leaving your car parked with the doors unlocked in a bad neighborhood. Everywhere in Eve is a bad neighborhood.
Never quite understood the hostility toward newer players who post legitimate ideas and concerns on the forums but I expected as much I suppose. At any rate, thanks for the "education" and keep on smiling.

Oorestes has a good point though: a slightly different tone, and less snarky comments, would go a long way in making forums like these a more useful and productive tool for players.
I also must have missed the memo (probably from the late 90s) that as long as you're anonymous on the interwebs, it's alright to assume the worst about others and be generally disrespectful and unkind.
It seems to me that a lot of energy is wasted this way.
Sorry to go a bit off-topic here, I did get the memo telling me that that is against etiquette in cyberspace.

What I wonder about s what 's the criteria for banning people/accounts. Is botting in itself enough? As been quoted from the EULA before, it's about:
1) getting an advantage you wouldn't have while actively playing. Well bots obviously don't mine as well as RL players.
2) selling ISK for RL money. But this doesn't include people who just bot to get ISK for their alliance, use the ice for their POS or use the minerals to produce supercarriers.
So it's all kind of vaguish to me if using macroes is a bannable offense.

Being able to mine for long periods, possibly 23/7 without needing any attention or intervention is a pretty big advantage over a non cheating/macroing player.

I have been wondering about this too. Say I use a macro for 12 hours a day, a human player could do that too. And I just use the profit for myself. Where in the EULA does it explicitely say I amnot allowed to do that and that my account will be banned?
