So ive seen a couple of "changes to X dumbing down eve" threads lately and would like to ask people to maybe engage their brains a bit before gonig off on a rant. Making something easy to use is not dumbing it down, its actually quite an important part of design.
Just becasue your EGO is inflated from being able to get around an obtuse and useless part of the game design does not mean you have a right to attack the game when that obtuseness (is this even a word) is removed and replaced with better systems.
Being able to see what modules skills effect, being able to see your DMG and gun range with less clicks and being reminded you have forgotten courier mission cargo make the game a more pleasant and more enjoyable experiance. Now you can earn your isk a bit quicker, concentrate on the fight a bit more or set yourselves some long term skill goals keeping you more involved.
These changes are progress for the better that make your game experiance smoother. If CCP as someone put it on another thread start warping your ship out for you or warning you someone is in warp heading towards you then we have issues.
This isnt dumbing down its improving old and tired game mechanics from a ten year old game. |

I think we as a community are dumbing down, since this wasn't already blatantly obvious to everyone. |

The forums pvp has caused us to lose some "skillpoints", let's say. Those who cannot adapt become victims of Evolugalbugaslugakjlwsdhvbzxd Click for old school EVE Portraits: http://jadeconstantine.web44.net/Maison.htm |

Agreed. People's ideas on this forum in regards to what Eve is or isn't what it should or shouldn't be makes me wonder if we are even talking about the same game in some of these posts.
Suffice to say, creating a few information windows to make it easier to manage the interface has nothing to do with dumbing down the game, it gives players accurate information so they are better informed and as such can make informed decesions rather than spending out of game time with a calculator trying to figuire out ******** formulas that have nothing to do with being smart and everything to do with wasting our gaming time. Other aspects that have been added like warning messages (hey you forgot your cargo) again is just a way to save people some frustration over a silly thing that has absolutly nothing to do with fun gameplay, player interaction or even affects anyone except the person who forgot to drag and drop a silly icon from one interface box to another.
Its not a dumbed down feature, but it is dumbed down to have conversations about it, I do feel like I lost an IQ point or two reading some of these posts so I agree with the OP. |

Games where you oppose other players (in whatever way) should be about who is better @ competing with other players, not about whao is better @ struggling with interface.
That said, a huge part of ongoing ranting would've never been happened if we had support of UI mods like WoW or TF2 or whatever you have. Hint: you like EVE more than those not because you are forced to take what CCP gives you, but for other reasons, completely unrelated to UI. Think about it before flaming me for admitting that some things about EVE are not the best of what world has to offer.
P.S. Sorry for grammar, I'm bad with conditional. |

I agree, just because a part of the game has become more efficient does not by any means mean it is dumbing it down. No player would ever want eve to die off in populace or new subs. I think as a gaming community we would want to see a great game succeed and flourish. To do this requires fine tuning it so that it is more efficient.
Lets be honest, the icons on the tool tip arent there to make it bulky or to make you feel stupid. It a proven fact that the eyes adjust quicker to images over text. Having that icon there helps our eyes to find the information quickly and effectively. |

I read a lot about old code, that can be horrible sometimes.
Although, sometimes, remembering to allow players to turn something off is nice.
Which they will fix. And although I think it should have been already in there, **** happens.
It's nice for them to recognize **** and say they will fix it. In a quick manner. |
