So it has snowed again in the uk and as per normal everything is going wrong. Yesterday turned out to be quite interesting with planes running out of runways and bus passengers pushing the bus up hills. Last night I found several abandoned cars and jackknifed waggons as my little C3 heroically fought its way to work along roads that had not yet seen a gritter.
How are you lot holding up?

Nothing I haven't been able to handle yet. My only worry this year is that I don't have the correct tires and I'm driving an automatic. I much rather prefer downshifting rather than braking in snow but Land Rover has this 'safety' feature that disallows me from putting the Disco into gear 2 or 1 while the vehicle is in motion.

Chicago looks like it's about to set some records for lack of snow.
Since the National Weather Service started keeping records, there have been only two Novembers without snow. This might be the third The record for latest snow fall was December 5th.
I mean for ****s sake, it only started icing over last night, what the heck is wrong with the weather? and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Born and lived in Michigan all my life. Lower peninsula, not "dah UP", so I'm not as battle hardened as some of you when it comes to winter weather driving. However, it always amazes me how many people forget how to drive in the snow when winter comes. ----------

Try living around Washington DC.
I believe that the Maryland drivers slow down when they see snow. Virginia drivers speed up and try to get home quicker. DC drivers are too strung up on ******* to notice.
All three types of drivers are on the same road on the Capital Beltway, guess what happens.... and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Edited by: Elysarian on 27/11/2010 10:24:25 We've had about an inch overnight (2.5cm to you guys who measure the european way) here in Lincolnshire.
I've driven in far worse conditions - most "fun" was a whiteout on the M6 near Shap in Cumbria a couple of years ago, all i could see was the tyre tracks left by a lorry in front of me... if he'd left the road I probably would have followed him.
What we have at the moment, though early, is nothing I couldn't handle in my transit connect :)
Edit to add my current location. ===================================== It smells of spoon! ===================================== |

In the Netherlands last year everything ground to a halt with an uncharacteristic amount of snow. Yesterday the first few cm fell here in the north and people are glaring at community services in anticipation. Looks like they got their act together now tho, salt factories have seen a busy year in preparation. Dunno about trains tho, they promised all kinds of stuff, but I dont really care. I hate trains, snow or no snow. Good thing my tires are nice and new(ish), combined with shoddy brakes (close as one can get to antilock on a beater) I should be golden

Edited by: Scorsigaar on 27/11/2010 11:16:40 No snow for me yet in Maryland in the US.
I did, however, get to drive in the snow in the UK a few years back. I didn't have a problem with the snow itself, it was just my damn passenger shouting "curb...Curb...CURB!" I tended to let his side of the car ride in the weeds etc.

Its snowed again last night. Was down to 15mph on the motoway and couldnt see a thing! Still my little car was victorious again. The snow seems to be bringing out the stupids, lots of people dont seem to want to get the snow off their side and rear windows or lights which is making life hard. Has one guy go up a slip road the wrong way. Guess its ok to that if you reverce up
Its like a full moon for bad drivers or something.
