So, on the 14th of December, I get a lot of free points to play with. I have enough to get Warfare Link Specialist 5 and ONE of Armored Warfare, Information Warfare, Siege Warfare or Skirmish Warfare to 5. For my Pve game, I think that Siege Warfare 5 is the most useful.
That said, I have been playing a while now, and am thinking of trying out pvp. If I decide to do so, I would like to have useful skills for my group. So, for all you Pvpers, which of the Warfare Skills is most useful in Pvp actions? Or are there enough people with all the skills at 5 that the point is irrelevant and I should just take whatever I like best?

Well you have 3 choices. Siege, Armored, or Skirmish (Information is ****, ignore it) depending on what skills you have it should determine what you get
Skirmish -> minni (speed and tackle boost) Siege -> Caldari (Shield resists and boosting increases) Armor -> Amarr (Obvious)
If you can fly all three races BC's (poss commandships) then go with what the people you fly with could get the most use out of.
Drake gangs could use a resist boosting drake.
lowsec roaming or highsec mercs speed and tackle range could really lend a hand.
Armor is very useful in many larger fleets. armor hacs, BS's, Capitals especially.

I was planning on starting with Factional Warfare, Gallente Side. I was also planning on Flying a Command ship with 3 gang assist modules and a cloak, so I will have little offense anyways. I can choose from all 4 of the Command ships, so that is not a factor. The limiting factor is me not wanting to train leadership skills due to the slow training rate, so I need to pick the one that gives me the most "bang for the buck".

Cloak deactivates all modules, so you won't be running command links. And if you try equipping a cloak, your ship will have a huge penalty (unless recon) to targeting as well as being useless for 30 seconds from it being deactivated or won't cloak while targeted when you are on grid. Best off using a T3 and make it unprobable, then sit elsewhere in system.

Ok, thanks, I didn't know that. I can do unprobable easy enough. So, is a Tengu with all three siege gang assist modules equipped worth having in a fleet over another pure dps?

Yeah been in a few gangs now with unprobable T3's just sitting at a safe and boosting the gang.

I really wish CS had to be on the grid to add a bonus, this role really isn't one where a person is needed. =============================== || Don't let the Trolls keep you from your goals. || =============================== |

Get Armored Warfare and get a Damnation. I doubt you'll ever regret it.
I have an unprobable Legion, but rarely use it. Honestly, no ship in the game is better than a Damnation. Stay on grid with your fleet, keep moving and you'll do fine.

It is a nice ship and can be useful.
However if you are in fleets or have as many friends as I do,then everyone + their mothers have damnations and will already be the established boosters. best bet for that situation I would say go minmatar and get skirmish links. and their commandships are pretty kickass in battle too.

Edited by: Guillame Herschel on 29/11/2010 21:22:22 Claymore is really the only Fleet CS that is viable in direct combat. DPS of a Fleet Stabber with similar bonuses (tracking, ROF). Worthy tank. Cheaper than many HACs.
I personally would not bother to max out any other Warfare skills but Skirmish on my main. Sitting at a safe in an unprobeable ship is a job for an idle alt. With the Claymore, you can boost and bring something worthy to the fight.

I would recommend the claymore as well. It can hold it's own for a while, and rapiers and tacklers will love you long time. Also there is more damnations and vultures around than there is claymores. |

There's no point advising the OP to fly xyz ship because it will be good in direct PvP, he is the ultimate carebear who thinks he can carebear in PvP, by flying uber ships, cloaked and safe, and never be attacked himself. All he is, is couple of expensive loss mails away from a hasty retreat to the safest high-sec mission hub he can find.

Armor links are only useful in armor fleets and shield links are only useful in shield fleets, so if you're only getting 1 type, get skirmish, which will be very useful in both armor and shield fleets. A Claymore can have trouble surviving in an armor fleet, but you can simply fit the links on a Damnation instead, most of the bonuses comes from skills and the mindlink anyway.

For the CS that can take 3 Warfare Links, is there a stacking penalty if using 3 of the same? Do they even stack at all?

do you mean xxxx warfare specialist or just the base skill? Because you would be better off training one of the xxxx warfare specialist skills for the mind link than training warfare link specialist to 5 imo.

activating additional link of the same type has no effect

Edited by: Katarlia Simov on 01/12/2010 13:07:32 As someone who is also putting his learning SP into leadership as well, I would recommend that you DO NOT TRAIN WARFARE LINK SPECIALIST 5. Not at this time anyway.
It doesn't add much (the last few percent) and there are much better ways to get your command bonuses up.
I'd advise you focus on one leadership tree and get the mindlink skills. The mindlink is the single most important part of the skill tree.
With the mindlink and other skills at 4, you get more commad bonus than everything at 5 without a mindlink. Train for it. Use them.
When you have the other skills maxed out then train link specialist 5.

It's quite handy to have.

its handy if you are using a Strategic Cruiser as a CS. but if the OP is using a normal CS the command link isnt a big deal compared to getting the mind link.
