One of them turned out to be a thief. That person shaved 100g off of each bar he carried.
Now, you have a scale that you can use just once. How do you figure out who stole the gold?
Now we have a mega hard question :)
edit: source
After carefully checking the facts the amount stolen was in fact in metric amounts, I am tired atm so this might be wrong like my previous answer but if 10 people are stacking and one is stealing the one that will steal will look different meaning he is the thief.
Heres a riddle for you, I find it hard to sleep at night, my bed time should be within the next hour what should I be doing during the next 30 mins that will encourage me to sleep?

if 3 people are paid for work hours...
I'd assume 3 men work for 4 hours; while 5 men can work for 6,66(6) hours
Literally, they'll charge for 6 hours and then get the job done in the last 45 minutes. They are called managers or lawyers.
True finance/sales manager would insist that increase in work force only emphasizes the seriousness of the business. And to get the job done, they should take extra 2 days to grant quality and satisfaction with the work.
I find this a very serious matter, please contact me and we can arrange the situation in greater detail.

Take 10 bars from 1 person, 9 from another, 8 from the third, 7 from the fourth, all the way down to 1 from the 10th person. Weigh them all at the same time. The missing numbre of ounces will tell you which guard was the one (6 ounces missing tells you it was from the gaurd you took 6 bars from).
No maths, but it works.
Edit: You don't even need to take 10 off anyone, just starting at 9 will work too.
once to use your scales, hmm... take a piece from every pile and lay them on the scales one by one... don not step away from the scales, nobody says you can't. Once you hit a deviation, you found the criminal. The one who stole the gold will not be able to bear your sight, look right into his eyes, your the boss.
Now tell me how to locate his missing stash?

Biologists need to know roughly how many fish live in a certain lake, but they don't want to stress or otherwise harm the fish by draining or dragnetting the lake. Instead, they let down small nets in a few different spots around the lake, catching, tagging, and releasing 108 fish. A week later, after the tagged fish have had a chance to mix with the general population, the biologists come back and let down their nets again. They catch 88 fish, of which 6 are tagged. Assuming that the catch is representative, how many fish live in the lake
in between 108 fish and 1584 +/- 100% . Just two samples aren't accurate, luck and number of sampling should be within random guess limit. All numbers are positive. Fish can go idle, multiply and even come in halves.

lame mythbusters done that one already.
Try to solve this one:
A man is found dead in his house. beneath him is a puddle of water. The police suspects a murder case since the guy died by a gallow but there is no way he could have hung himself (I really mean no way there is no fallen chair nothing he could have jumped off nothing)
The police begins an investigation. As soon as the sheriff arrives he orders the investigation to be stopped and puts down suicide as the case of death.
It turned out the sheriff was right. How did the guy manage to kill himself? ---- Dear Noah,

An evil emperor is bored and decides to play a game with some of his prisoners, so he calls for 3 of them.
He puts them in a row. The first prisoner is facing a wall. The second prisoner is behind the first person. The third prisoner is behind the second.
The three prisoners happen to know each other, and they know that they are all extremely clever.
The emperor tells them that from a pile of 5 hats, 3 red and 2 green, he has randomly put one on each head. They can't see the color of their own hat, but they can see the color of the hats on the prisoner(s) in front of them. They also don't know the color of the hats that haven't been used.
The emperor tells them that if anyone is able to figure out the color of his hat, the are all free to go. If anyone guesses the wrong color, they will all be executed. If anyone tries to cheat, they will all be executed.
After a long time, the first prisoner, who is up front and facing only the wall, is able to figure out the color of his hat.
What color is it, and how did he figure it out?

The person up front must be wearing a yellow hat assuming a long time has passed. Working as follows. If the person in the rear sees two green hats, he knows he must be wearing a yellow hat and will say so. However, if he sees two yellow hats, or any green/yellow combo, he can not know for sure his own hat and will stay quiet.
The person in the middle, knowing the person in the rear has stayed quiet, knows that either there are two yellow hats, or a yellow or green combo. If he sees a green hat in front of him, he knows his hat is yellow and can say so. However, if the hat in front of him is yellow, he must also stay quiet. Thus, if the first two are quiet, the guy in front knows he must be wearing a yellow hat.

color is red.
let's assume prisoner 1 had a green hat prisoner 2 and 3 could see it now if prisoner 2 had green also 3 would say red cause he sees 2 green hats. So if he doesn't say anything prisoner 2 will figure out that he has a red hat because if it was green prisoner 3 would see 2 green hats but he doesn't so he must have had a red hat. But prisoner 2 doesn't say anything either so following the above reasoning prisoner 1 can figure out he got a red hat on his head.
edit: lol at above me for copying the answer from the internet and not changing yellow :P I actually just figured this one out and I must say this was a fun one -------------

These type of riddles for job interviews are a terrible metric.
Here's a classic, Suppose you're on a game show, and you're given the choice of three doors: Behind one door is a car; behind the others, goats. You pick a door, say No. 1, and the host, who knows what's behind the doors, opens another door, say No. 3, which has a goat. He then says to you, "Do you want to pick door No. 2?" Is it to your advantage to switch your choice?

scale it up to 1000 doors.
998 doors get opend and are empty
switching is logical now cause that last door now got a 999/1000 chance to contain something and your first door 1/1000
now scale it down and you are better of switchng doors as chances gone up on that one door from 1/3rd to 2/3rd

Assuming that showmen want to put on a show... Do not rely on any logic, work out his intentions. It can bluff or intimidate, in either case the showman tries to distract you. Sometimes showman can pretend to be distracting, but in fact try and trick you.
You can sense his thought, observe emotions of his face, speech and eyes. Going for the eyes can tell you the truth or leave you crippled. Eyes directly reflect mood.
