Most of you have seen those convoys that go from station to station in the game, some of you have learned how to destroy them without getting yourself blown up by sentries also, i think that the convoys are getting slightly old and need some companions, so i propose npc mining convoys:
they have the same rules as the convoys, don't attack them near the stations that belong to their corp or the sentries will blow you to bits, also attacking or destroying them results in a standings hit against the npc's corp, also as a addition to it, you cant dock in the npc's corp's stations for the duration of the aggro timer, also any escort ships in the fleet will attack you when you shoot at one of the fleet's members, pirate rats that spawn will attack the npc miners but will be destroyed by the stronger escort ships now on to how the npc's would work:
how this would work is: npc mining barges/npc exhumers/npc mining frigs/npc escort cruisers, and battlecruisers, destroyers, and frigs/industrials undock in a similar fashion as the hauler convoys, they all align to the same asteroid belt and warp to it, the npc ships fitted with mining lasers/strip miners/ice harvesters/gas harvesters start mining/harvesting ice/harvesting gas, after 10 or so minutes, the npc ships warp back to the station they came from and dock up, they will pass the next npc fleet as they dock, and the cycle continues.
the npc ships will drop things you would expect them to have (aka strip miners, mainly ore, mining lasers, survey scanners, expanded cargo holds, and so on for the mining ships, ore and sometimes other things for the industrials, and various mods and ammo for the escort ships)
so that is my idea for npc mining convoys, i may or may not come up with and post more ideas later...

So basically have CCP put it's own macros in the game and allow you to mine said macros with your guns. -1, this would probably do something awful to mineral prices and make all the carebears cry. -

did you bother reading the post at all??
this had nothing to do with macros in any way or players mining in any way, its just a method of populating the game so it seems less empty, and its also adding a addition to the convoying income method (convoying is basically destroying those npc convoys that go between stations, its a lot harder then it looks) also, i would prefer it if the miners didn't deplete asteroids, but that likely wont work, and anyways, the miners wont be able to deplete more then half of a belt per day if they focused on a specific belt (which they wont), and yes your suppose to be able to attack them, but they will put up a fight that can potentially destroy a battlecruiser fit for pve if there are enough escort ships, and it wouldn't do very much to the mineral prices due to the fact that THEY CANT DEPLETE ENTIRE BELTS, pay more attention to the topic post next time

7. Trolling is prohibited. Trolling is the word used to describe a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting the players. Posts of this nature are disruptive and do not contribute to the sense of community we want for our forums.
seems as though you are trolling, yah might want to stop soon

I am familiar with the convoys and how to attack them.
The current system, although a bit more slow than I would like isn't too off balance. What you propose sounds rather easy to attack and defeat.
If their drops were no more or less than current rats, then yeah it wuold make eve seem more alive. Supposidly there are "civilians" all over the place, but apparently we ignore them or some such thing. Personaly, I wouldn't mind seeing them, but not sure they should be a farmable resource.

I agree. Too much loot dropping and you create a very simple ISK/materials faucet.
However, seeing more civilian traffic would be nice.

im not trying to suggest a easy money source (even though everyone wants to be rolling in easy to get expensive objects :P), i would prefer if it was a challenge for a player battleship or two due to around 3 BC's or 2 BS's or 3-4 C's or 4-5 D's or 5-7 F's or a combo of them all (since npc corps would likely try and protect their miners from players) and of course the attacking a concord mining convoy would result in your ship being concorded
basically its similar to the convoying, not exactly a farmable resource, but still pays the bills, and since the npc miners are away from the safety of the sentry guns, they have a group of strong escort ships to protect them from players... so its sorta like convoying, but a bit more profitable and is much harder without several players in a fleet in order to kill the escort ships and mining ships and industrials

yes civ traffic would be nice, and refer to post that should be above unless someone posted before this for how to make it harder to farm
also im thinking that only the industrials and orcas should spawn with ore, the miners should mine the ore, and CCP can always adjust the number of escort ships :P

Not a bad idea, but the mining ships should probably half 'false' miners. In other words, they look like they mine but in truth are not pulling in m3. If they do mine, it needs to be nerfed heavily to ensure a game mechanic isn't reducing the amount of nodes available as is.
Adds more to the universe... + ...might be too easy to farm - ...worth less than missions - ...why not rat and get sec? -
Needs work. Make it convincing, or useful, and you'll have folks on it. You are correct that convoys are outdated and not even worth the trouble. That could probably be fixed as an added (not mission planned) way to gain isk.

I would like to see more NPC involvment like this. Some just civvies that CONCORD or the Navies would protect and other corporate ships that only the corp would protect.
Anything that adds to realism is a good thing. Id even like to see crew life boats escape from destroyed ships.
I used to play freelancer and the spacelanes were full of such potential targets
