and if there is enough snow that it goes backward and is a hazard to other drivers well.... I'm just surprised you weren't all driving snowmobiles to work
Scotland here. A few cars have been completely berried in an igloo of snow, with a good 2-3 feet of snow ontop of them.
My garden table has doubled in height thanks to the snow that's fallen on it.
We had the sun here today in Wales, I almost believe that I imagined it, because I've never seen the sun in Cardiff before.

We had sun, till about 3pm, at which point it was already setting. Snow still isn't melting, prolly take a good week of sun for it to even start to melt properly. [Which, considering the UK tends to get one sunny day a month, I reckon we'll be defrosted just in time for winter next year] _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

driving in and handling snow is pretty simple stuff though. use the snow brush to clean off the car while its running so the defroster can heat up the glass and the electric one deices the rear window. then make sure to drive slow. if you got suckered into buying a RWD car instead of AWD or FWD, stay the hell home unless its a dire emergency. if you have FWD or AWD stay the hell home and play games as long as the power is on and you have a job that can accept "its too damn dangerous to drive today". but if you must drive, use something with a drive line superior to RWD. a good bet is a quality car like a Subaru. just remember a good AWD like a Subaru does not make you god of the snow.

Even RWD can drive in snow, you just gotta know how. For years my mother put the fear of god into my little brother about snow because she doesn't know how to drive in it and last weekend when he was in town I gave him a lesson and he made it to my place like a champ. One thing you have to factor in is vehicle weight and weight distribution. I say this because even with 4WD my fathers old dodge V10 was still completely useless in snow as ALL of his weight was up front and even with sandbags the back end still went everywhere whereas my little nissan did quite well because the weight was more evenly distributed. Another factor that people with front wheel or all wheel drive tend to forget is that these drives help you drive better, however they do not help you stop better. The last part tends to get lost in translation. The most common issue that I see is that people just lock up their brakes and then they forget to let go when the vehicle starts to slide. They have to learn that by letting off the brakes they will at least gain control of which direction they go in even if it means running to a curb to avoid a crash. Understand the limitations of your vehicle. I always recommend that people go out mudding with their car even if it is some little econo vehicle. I'm not talking about the 3' deep stuff or deep ruts but find some area with a thin layer of smooth slick mud and practice in it as it compares quite well with snow.

Quick clear windscreens ftw, no waiting for ages or scraping the ice off.
