Edited by: Chakarr on 04/12/2010 13:25:34 I have reached a crossroads, and more to the point I have pretty much finished my plan I had when I started in early 2009, to create a pure specced Minny Pilot that could fly pretty much any Minmatar sub BS ship.
Skills
As you can see I have taken the 'pure' idea to the extreme (minus the ORE ship skills), I haven't even trained other races drone specs!
ATM I am only PVE (missions & exploration) - RL & sporadic playing time being a major factor in stopping me from joining a corp and moving out to 0.0 which is what I would like to do...
The question then, given the impending learning skill refund and the fact that I have a remap available, is where to go from here?
Do I:
1) Stay pure Minmatar and round out the other ships (command, logistics etc) and plan towards 0.0 and capitals.
2) Go Industrial, grind some more standings, set up a POS and start a manufacturing/PVE Corp of my own.
3) Cross train for another race, in which case which one...?
Is being pure minny holding me back or is it better (and more ) to be focused on one race?

A combination of 1 and maxing out all relevant support skills. By the time you are an expert on all Minmatar ships it will be a very short step to move across to any other race that you fancy.
You will feel pretty damn good once you hit 100m SP and still only do one race.

Mmmm, I think that is the way I am leaning...
...my question now then is where to put the 4.7mil from learning and re-map or not?
I could put the points into the few per/wil skills I want now/soon, then remap int/mem and spend a year maxing out navigation & support skills OR
Put the points into int/mem support skills I want now/soon and stay mapped per/wil continuing to focus on ship, navigation (just not as fast) and missile skills which I could easily train for another few years if I go the capitals route...
The second option bugs me as it wastes the remap but seems like the right thing to do for some reason....grrrr

Dump some skill points into drone skills, specifically Combat Drone Operation and Minmatar Drone Specialization. Maybe pick up Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing and max that out. Dump the rest of your skill points into missile skills and maybe a ship skill or two.
Remap for INT/MEM and get your Electronics, Engineering, Mechanic, Navigation, and Science up. If you want to do capitals, there's a whole mess of skills needed (jump drive stuff, triage stuff, remote hull/armor/shield repair, fighter/fighter-bomber stuff, etc.). Just for general null-sec combat, you'll want Thermodynamics, Nanite Interfacing, and Nanite Operation for overheating and repairing. ----- Ambush. Hit and run. Gank before tank. Speed is life. |

Thanks for the helpful suggestions guys. Looks like a good plan - had already decided to dump some into leadership skills too, needed for command ships & later fighters plus cha based skills feel like a better return as I will never likely be mapped to train those skills quickly.
I am gonna get BC V & get into commands before the remap, might do recon & logi too, then it's a year of int/mem skills and finding a decent corp to get into capitals.

Another option:
Pick a pirate faction battleship you think would be fun to fly and cross train into the necessary race.
For me, this helps alleviate boredom and gives me some variety. I picked Bhaalgorn and have added Minmatar.
Just another option that has a nice bonus at the end. You could train for a Mach.

Your navigation skills could use a bit of love still, especially valuable as Minmatar. Rigging skills are mostly at 3, I'd get the onces you use a good deal up to 4. Perhaps round off skills like signature analysis, long range targeting, propulsion jamming, energy emission systems etc to 5.
All in all I would say round off all your support skills before cross-training so you have a maxed Minmatar character, maybe either Recon or HAC to 5 depending on what you like to fly (as you don't have Recon trained at all I assume HACs) but that's not necessary.
I'd recommend a cross-train for capitals to either Amarr or Gallente but that will be a very heavy cross-train. Minmatar capitals are generally considered the worst of the lot, and Chimera's are mainly reserved for POS rep duty.
