Now it`s useful, because after Apochripha all probes have scan time 5-10 seconds and only on-board still have 30.
How we can fix it:
1. Astronometrics skills must be applied to On-board Scanner.
2. On-board scanner can find deadspace signatures.
To resolve second task: in scanner window we may have a option to save current scan results. When we save one result for signal ID (from probe or on-board) we can run scan from other place in space. If second scan result have signal ID from first scan - we obtain a circle, after 4 succesed scan results with same ID we have a signal. It be as like a standard scan with 4 probes, but we don`t have 4 probes scanning in one time, we have one probe/on-board scan 4 times from diffirent places in space.
Discuss.

Alternative solution - remove On-Board scanner, it`s useless.
p.s. Sorry for bad English.

Really? I've found it quite useful for locating plexxers in WHs without alerting them to my presence. Maybe I'm the one doing it wrong....

Only ships with covert cloaks, only in anomalies, only in WH, only for killing carebears. And you don`t want to do on-board more useful?

on board scanner is priceless in WH space, you spam it to watch out for a fleet warping in on you.
your name...why was caprica cancelled? :( CCP supports this message. I think. |

You spam direction scanner, not on-board, feel diffirence.

I beg to differ! The onboard scanner (OS) is a hugely useful tool, especially when used in conjunction with your directional scanner (DS). This combination provides you with one of the main methods of finding (and tackling) targets without them seeing you coming à and without having to release any scanner probes.
These methods are especially useful in w-space, where you also do not show up on local unless you speak there, but they are also applicable to nullsec, lowsec, and hisec à depending on what you want to achieve.
The OS / DS combo lets you find targets who are located at cosmic anomalies (anoms). This works because the OS allows you to get a bookmarkable fix on any anom within its range and the DS allows you to work out which celestial the target is nearest to à all without breaking cloak and without releasing any probes.
A similar approach works for cosmic signatures (sigs) if youÆve scanned the system earlier (perhaps itÆs your w-space home system and itÆs an uninvited visitor youÆre hunting) and have the sigs bookmarked. Other variations may include the use of deep space probes, which can give you an imperfect fix without having to come within 16AU of a target.

I think youÆre confusing the OS with the DS. DS-spamming is a time-honoured activity for any w-space denizen. Notwithstanding the methods I mention above itÆs often the DS that warns you of uninvited visitors. The DS isnÆt the last-word in defence and should not be blindly relied upon as your only layer of safety, but it does usually provide you with a very useful and powerful survival tool.
Cheers Subs
