get them here
Anyhow I wrote a program which parsed through all of the chronicles on the eve site and put them into a .prc format (kindle, nook...). I hate myself and am never doing html parsing again...
its one file, with indexed stories...perfect for when you have a couple of minutes to kill
still in beta I guess as it seems some illegal characters sneaked through and a couple of stories (like two or three), show a wrong character in like 3 places. still very much readable, but easy to fix. will probably be done tomorrow.
Big thanks go out to the host, for his lovely services.
please report any bugs or anything you don't like and would like to see changed so I can fix it

This is, technically, almost certainly illegal. I'd contact CCP first. I'm not saying they mind, but I am saying they would be within their rights to mind.

Not to argue but show me the legal basis for your claim.
I dont see how they could mind if the chronicles are readable on a kindle. The chronicles are free, free to view and dont even require a login. Nobody is rebranding them or claiming they arent CCP's property.
I hope CCP is understanding about this. If I had an expensive, poorly built doorstop I might like to read EVE chronicles on it too. If you want to make enemies, change something. |

Work your way from there. They might want to keep them exclusive to their website, which I would find perfectly reasonable if it were the case.
So yea, its probably best to ask for permission first. Nice idea though.

Lacking a price does not mean the owners relinquish all or any rights to their work, and distribution rights are central to ownership. The OP is essentially rebroadcasting material he/she does not own without permission.
edit to add: I do bet CCP wouldn't have a problem with it, given proper credit. But should they not, they would have a claim to shut down unauthorized distribution of their works.

You are probably not responsible for business decisions, there is a multitude of reasons to keep it exclusive.
Anyway, it doesnt matter one bit what you or me think, the only thing that matters here is what ccp intend to do with their property. Hence ask first.
Best case they say they like the idea and might even host it themselves, worst case they say no because they already have their own plans in the making.

No matter what I'm glad someone compiled these into a wide spread format. Now I can read them on nearly any reader I have about.

Awesome. I've never found the EVE Chronicles easy to read on the website. Maybe it's the white text on black background... meh.

It's a .prc file ffs, not an exe.
But I guess there are those that are dumb enough to A. download and double click anything and everything, or B. think that a non-executable file could self-execute upon download and ruin your entire LIFE. lol

Just to clarify: this kind of initiative is perfectly acceptable (and is actually very welcome), as long as you do not try to get any kind of commercial gain from it and acknowledge the fact that the chronicles themselves are CCP's copyrighted work.
As such I would ask you to add a copyright notice to your file. A good example can be found at the bottom of the fansite page.

You are giving your IP to the server you're downloading from. Depending on what firewall or antivirus you have (or don't have) set up on your machine, the server could try to infect your system with, say, a keylogger to steal your Eve credentials. There have also been precedents of viruses spreading through non-executable files (JPEG buffer overrun anyone?). Dumb is assuming it's safe to download anything that's not an exe. Assuming that any download could be harmful is merely paranoid, but not necessarily dumb.
To clarify, i'm not saying that the link in the OP leads to a server that tries to infect you with malware. But it could be.

doing this right now. sorry about that, should have realised it, and done so in the first place. I apologise. Should be finished today though, including the fixing of the few illegal characters that made it through. I have to ask though, why do you put so many weird characters inside?
like: ô ö Æ æ , had to replace all of these with " and: à with ... and: á with (its a weird space character I didn't even know about ) and: û with - these all translated into the usual #$! on my kindle I have one more to track down, put the notice in, and it will be finished. again, sorry about that.

I tried to upload it on eve files, but it did not let me. apparently it filters what files it will allow to upload and .prc is not one of them. I then asked on scrapheap if someone could host said files for me, and someone volunteered.
a .prc file is in essence a .txt file. it has all the chronicles inside but with specific tags around them so they can be indexed and read on kindle. its actually almost identical to html.
I would be happy to send the file to chribba (in an hour or so when its finished) so he can check it and put it on eve files. If that does not satisfy you there really is not much more I can do.
you are right though...I am in an npc corp atm, would you look at that. Should go somewhere and do some pew pew now that I got some time again...

If anybody is going to read ALL the chronicles and backstory, I have a request...
If you come across any player corp that is mentioned in them, drop me an eve mail. I will reward you with some isk or something if you find one.
'cos as far as I know, my corp is the only player corp directly written into prime fiction, but then again I haven't read them all, especially all the newer ones, there could be loads of player corps referenced in them, I dunno.
P.S. Mailing me about the tides of change chronicle that my corp is in doesn't get a reward, and neither does any reference to player alliances, just corps.

Good job and thanks! I look forward to loading it into my Kindle... :)
On the other hand, do you have any plans to eventually add the remaining of the EVE backstory to complete the book? (I was thinking about the EVE Short Stories in particular)

hmm...hadn't thought about it. really made this for myself as I was bored waiting for lectures to start...
but yeah sure, shouldn't be to difficult really...next week I should have more time, will probably do it then. Since I am already doing it, is there anything else you would like to see put in?

Well, if you are really into it, I guess the contents covered by "The Book of EVE" would probably be the ultimate goal, but I think the integration of the EVE novellas may require some additional work despite of your current codebase (AFAIK they are only available in PDF format, not HTML).
For the record, I already tried converting "The Book of EVE" from PDF to mobi, ePub, etc., but the output wasn't fully satisfactory. Yours is much better and, in my humble opinion, should be present in the EVElopedia too :)
