Im wondering which side displays the best graphics for eve. Im considering buying an Nvidia for the PHSYX engine because I play Entropia Universe. Im hoping that its either of the two or Nvidia so I can get all the eye candy on these two games. I have a 360 and and a PS3 for other types of games and cant really see me playing driving, football or FPS on a PC. Been a loooooong time since I have played pretty much anything else on a PC, except sim city and unfortunately C&C Tib Sun, which to me destroyed the franchise (shameless dig @ EA).

Both a very good, depends on what company you like.
Also depends on if you have agp, pci, pci express.
Whats your cpu/memory?

Im using PCIE, 8GB RAM, quad core 2.4GHz.
The reason Im having to ask is because on the specs page it refers to both, but only names ATI for recommended and I dunno if that page still applies to the new update. If it doesnt use the 'advanced features' of either when running at highest, ie the physx engine with Nvidia, then that would explain why it refers to both. If it does use the advanced features of say ATI and my current graphics card doesnt use that ... well I think you know what I mean by now (unless Ive confused the issue beyond recognition).

Probably about 150 GBP. Ive hunted down a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 460 - 1024 MB GDDR5 for less than that.
Meant to say my current GFX is an ATI 4800HD 1GB, but in Entropia it doesnt give me the eye candy I see in peoples screenies because of PHYSX. If going Nvidia is only going to give me better performance in Entropia I might scrap the idea. But if going to a 460 gives me better in both then Im basically sold. After many hours of looking and thinking my skull is bursting. Really, really wish I hadnt had the 'idea'.

Looked at the EVGA there since you mentioned them, 768MB ú160 and 1536MB 357 GBP
And I thought they made expensive mobo's ...
I think the 1536MB might out of the range Im willing to spend on
Will the 460 be an improvement on my 4800 for this game? I dunno what shader my current card uses or if eve can benefit from a higher version than what I am currently running.

Go for a 470 if you can, and eve isn't the only game you play. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

You'll want nVidia, EVE is enhanced for physX and CUDA ^^
I highly recommend EVGA GTX460, I'm using the 1GB version, can run multiple clients at 32x antialiasing and 16x aniosotropic filtering still with +60fps. The 470 is only marginally better at a significantly higher cost.
If you need something quicker, I'd recommend simply adding a second GTX460 and running SLI

No, it is not. It looks like Ambulation/WiS/Incarna will be taking advantage of these two technologies, but the rest of EVE couldn't care less.

Edited by: Tayonas on 08/12/2010 05:23:56 Edited by: Tayonas on 08/12/2010 05:23:23 OK in the end I have bought the 460. I did buy the 470 and then cancelled it because for ú50/$75/+33% the performance doesnt seem worth it and if I can run at least 5 clients with this card then I dont really need that extra 15% performance for +33% cost.
Thanks for the replies, appreciated.

i have 3 pcs running eve
2x are dual nvidia 8500gt setups 1x is a single ati hd 4850 setup
the older dual nvidia setups handle multi boxing better than the higher spec ati card.
the newer ati card handles running graphics at high res better
the ati might be better at multiboxing if ati ever get a decent driver released. but for now the driver causes lots of bsod when tried in multi box mode
BUT one thing we call all agree on is INTEL graphics sucks balls for eve... my laptop lags like mad

CCP do partner with NVidia on stuff, they've done talks with them in the past and are using PHYSX for WoD's (and probably Incarna's) clothing. So I'd be tempted to think their support for NVidia will be better than ATI.

Didnt know that, ATI is 'named' in the recommended specs. But Im happy at what you are saying because it means both my PC games are using Nvidia + PHYSX :)
Whats a WoD?
They should put a 'works best with xxxxxxxx' on the splash screen and update the webpage if thats the case though, well I think they should.

ATI drivers have been more solid than Nvidia since the release of the 4800 series. ATI has produced a better card for the money for quite a while now, although the new Fermi are slowly becoming optimized at the high end.

1 GFX doesnt matter in EVE. EVE is written in Python LOL and the code is single thread (single core). EVE will only use one core and will always be CPU starved. This is why turning off brackets help =- brackets are calculated by CPU.
2 If you want PHYSX you need TWO Nvidia cards. PHYSX bogs down even the strongest NVIDIA cards below playable framerates (Mafia 2 with physx enabled = APEX). It just doesnt work without dedicated card, not to mention its a waste of money and visual difference is minimal.

What do you mean by brackets? Havent looked at Mafia 2, for me its not an issue though cus I only play EVE and Entropia. Oh, gimme some more E's ... Least, Im praying its not gonna be an issue for Entropia.
Ive never had an issue, ie BSOD, with any ATI or Nvidia card, well except around 16 years or so ago when raedons first hit the market and it wasnt my machine, was someone elses and I lurved my Nvidias after being stuck with the crappy Intel cards. Though at 8MB they were a massive step up from 512k + a secondary 1024k accelerator lol. I think Ive only had one single build ever that has suffered BSOD and it was down to the RAM.
