From the inside of my ship, looking out into space through a window. If you wanna add in something later, centered around the player avatars your making (for release next December I'll bet), allowing you to walk around stations ect. Thats great! But right now I just want a static wall with a window in it. Oh and it has to show whats outside not a lame static space picture. When activated allow no camera controls and no UI to be visible.
Easy? You bet it is. I could code this into your game in a day, so if you can't something is wrong.

Edited by: Kelkam on 12/12/2010 08:56:00 I think I should say something about why I think it's easy. Take 4 images (of starbase interiors), one for each race style and the last one for the ORE ships. Cut a hole in the wall. Put a window in it. The key that hides your spreadsheet UI, duplicate it, call it another function, and give it its own key binding. When you hit the key, away goes the ui and up comes the wall with the window. This should be static, except for the view outside the window. Mabey your alongside another ship or whatever. One default view direction, like port or starboard.

If you investigate into the lore it explains why this will probably never be implemented. This is because while your character is inside the pod of the ship he -is- the ship. His thoughts control most of the actions (especially so in frigates as they are only manned by the capsuleer himself in comparison to a cruiser or larger vessel with assisting crew) and the camera in game is quite literally why your character is seeing.
This camera is a series of camera drones that are affixed inside your ship's warp bubble and the like, and likewise there is no tactical or progressive reasoning to have a camera inside the ship itself.

My ships got windows. I want to look out them. Don't allow it in frigates, and call it "Crewview" then. Indirectly affirming the canon by restricting someone in a frigate from the view, and displaying a small notification when you try.

Pods don't have windows. You are in the pod.

Then how can I see? oh ya! drones or some shiat! Could be worse, I could be asking to see wth my crew are doing inside my ship.

I'd like there to be a few new camera modes...
a tracking cam, which still looks at your ship, but moves round to keep your particular targetted enemy in focus behind permanently
an event cam, which moves view between different events as they happen (would need a much better log window to be tied into this) eg scrams being started, alpha strike being fired, reinforcements warping in etc.
possibly an event-tracking cam, like the event cam, but which keeps primary focus on your ship and smoothly tracks round to the events,
a cinematic cam... a cam which goes some way towards making the game look at least slightly like the trailers. ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

Try the advanced camera menus that are anabled in the escape menu- they allow some interesting cinematic stuff

You don't see. You feel everything through your ship. There is only a visual interface so that you can actually play the game. And I don't think you would want to see what your crew is doing hehe
