Other than gate camping, does Hyperion have any other role in PvP or PvE?
Thanks for info.

Pretty much everything the Hype can do, the Mega can do better. The Mega's tracking bonus more than makes up for being a turret short, it only has slightly less grid despite the missing turret and you get an extra low slot. Then there is the small matter of hybrids not being an optimal choice atm.
In short the Hype is outclassed by a cheaper ship that requires exactly the same skills. It may have a niche that it fills better than the Mega, but I can't think of one atm.

Well, you might get away with strapping rails on it for a missioning ship (you know dmg + tank bonus), but meh... 0= - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 'So grab your guns.'

Its designed for active tank. With t2 mods you can make it do 1k+ dps with 1k+ tank.

The Hyperion is an excellent roaming battleships for lowsec or lightly populated 0.0. Also hi-sec wars are excellent times to bring out the hyperion.

Hyperion is a great solo defensive PvP BS. Triple rep, dual cap booster and anchored container full of 800s == bust up a gang!

hyperion is great for station games ganking with a shield/gank fit, its a pretty good BS for small numbers fleet where its active tank could make the difference.
can even be a arguably better sniper than the mega but sniping BS is kinda dead atm

The obvious answer to the question of the role of the Hyperion is simple: Hangar Queen

The Hyperion, along with half the ships in the Gallente lineup, was designed almost exclusively around solo PVP. It doesn't fill a role in a gang really. Its high close range DPS combined with high mid slot utility and strong active tank are benefits that only shine in solo situations. When you have support via gangmates, a buffer tanked ship that puts out more raw DPS and at better ranges will far outperform it. The same can be said of any Brutix fit that takes advantage of its active tanking bonus, Myrmidon, and other ships they have as welll.

Its role is to gank a bc or two that undock in an empire war, then tank the gang til it can redock.

The more people involved in a fight the less effective the Hyperion will be. But that said the Hyperion is a beast if fit & flown correctly (depending on the situations)

The thing I like most about the Hype is its relative mobility compared to a plated BS, it seems very agile after flying plated Geddons and Megas.

The Mega can't do a triple rep solo pwnmobile anywhere near as good as the Hype. So no, the Mega does not do everything the Hype can. And tbh, a shield gank Hype is cheaper (after insurance) and more effective gankmobile than a Mega too (cause shield rigs are cheap).

The Hyperion was originally intended to be a short ranged blaster platform with strong MWD capabilities....
Quote:
* 5% large hybrid weapon damage per level * 5% increase in capacitor when using microwarpdrive
You might have guessed from the bonuses that this is a kind of blaster ship. Its not only noticable by the bonuses but also the attributes of the ship. Everything on this ships is optimized for it getting in range fast. Its lighter and faster than Megathron, it has unusually large capacitor but slower recharge time. It has roughly the same peak cap recharge rate as the other tier 3 battleships but when it has to take that long sprint toward its enemy it has more cap when it finally gets in range. Now you might be asking your self what is the use of megathron then? Well not everything is better on the Hyperion, it has really crappy targetting range, and I mean really crappy. It also has smaller drone bay than Megathron and obviously worse tracking. Megathron would therefor be considerable better long range ship, while still being a decent blaster boat.

Somewhere along the lines it was made into a more defensive ship... but they still kept it's stats, especially its cap, its speed, and it's crappy targeting range...
Active armor tanking is bad for large scale PvP, buffer armor tank is awful for getting into range, and it can't fit rails very well, so in the Hype's current state, all it is good for is *very* small scale PvP with med-large sized ships that will ALWAYS take place at point blank range.
So bascially, gatecamping and undocking games.
Personally I think they should have made the Hyperion tier 1 (and therefore faster, with a smaller signature radius) and the Dominix tier 3, changed the Hype's repper bonus to +10% falloff and the Domi's gun bonus to +7.5% Repper. That way, the Hyperion could be efficiently used as a disposable (~30m-40m) midrange suicide boat (like a thorax, only way bigger)...
...Of course, that will never happen because it'll bork the market...
...But a more reasonable solution might be to make it shield-tankable without forcing you to waste a bonus...
A fit like:
8x blasters
MWD LSE LSE Invuln Invuln
DC 3xMagstab 2xTE
Would work brilliantly if only we weren't wasting a bonus in the process. But I truly believe that +10% falloff/level would make this ship significantly more useful.

falloff bonus would make a T1 ship look like a T2 ship, since it would make it "too specialized". T1 ships are supposed to be more flexible than T2 ships, so the falloff bonus was thrown away.
I did wanted it to have a 5% RoF bonus together with a damage bonus tho. ---

In fact, it's so agile (and have so many mids) that you could nano + shield tank it like the Pest and fly it with BC (gang, tactics). Should you ever want to.

So the Hyperion has much more turret DPS, projects that DPS much better, is faster and more agile and has about the same EHP. On the minus side it has a bit of an EM hole (90k EHP, 98k overloaded), a big fat signature, less tackle, much poorer tracking, no cap booster, isn't much use with remote armour reps and will cap out from just firing its guns!

Shieldgank domi gets essentially identical dps & tank as this fit and is considerably cheaper
