Long term idea as this would require a big addon to the client/completly new program.
TL:DR allow the client to optionally store positional data from in game and then use that data to recreate space battles/sceans from game play at leasure in a Film Maker mode that can then be exported as .avi or MPeg etc files that can be edited/added to in 3rd party apps to create Eve Films more easily.
ok my idea is as follows. CCP like the Films players make of eve. Players like the films people make of eve. Making films in eve is quite hard (its hard to get the right camera angle during space battles and unless your doing staged combat you always stand the chance of having your camera operator poded out of the fight mid battle) My solution. Allow the client to optionally store the incomming data from the server and then at a later point, either in client in a special Film Maker Mode, or in a seperate program, allow the events stored to be replayed at leasure, allowing the player to move the camera at will through the unfolding scene, and to render that scene at any resolution with any graphix settings (by default this info does not include the HUD or any windows open. wich means you don't have to hide any sensitve chat windows or such while filming)(its not time critical so it can be rendered slowly). basically this would have similar functionality to the inhouse softwear you use to make eve trailers except you can't program ships to do what you want its just a record of what actually happened in a period of eve game play. The camera is the only thing you can reprogram. This would however allow with multiple passes to record the same fight/event from many different angles. this will have no effect on server as this is all client based. this will have (hopefully) low impact on the client as its only recording a very small amount of data, (and bear in mind this is as an alternative to fraps wich dumps gigabytes of data on the harddrive.) Also it might be possible to send these flight logs (either in or out game) to other players so if you have someone who is particularly good at making films (has 3rd party softwear for editing the video together/adding on graphix and such) who didn't make it to the fight (or just wasn't on your grid if events happen in multiple places) then they can be sent the flight log and use it.
The benefit is that this should allow for much easyer and higher quality eve Films being made.
Thoughts, Sugestions, Flames all welcome.
