Edited by: Captain Pompous on 13/12/2010 19:56:03 Hi,
I saw this line in the latest blog, when the author talks about sub. 3m SP alts:
Originally by: The Blog If you find yourself repeatedly training up sub-3m SP alts for specific tasks and then binning them, this may inconvenience you slightly. Sorry. On the other hand, each one will now cost you 20m ISK less, so count your blessings there. Also, recycling alts is against the rules and will get you banned.
Bolded the important part. Just curious; I realise that recycling alts because of sec status is against the rules. But on the other hand, if I make two alts on my main's account, decide I don't like the shading of their moustaches (or whatever) and re-roll them, this is not allowed?

I think if you do as you mentioned that would be fine.
But continuously doing it 'just because' will create more load than necessary? (yes that is a question because I wouldn't know, just a shot in the dark) - #DEVOUR# Scream for me. I'll die for you #DEVOUR# Scream for me. I'll die for you #DEVOUR# |

You will forever have ugly alts. Lesson kids, make sure you invest significant amount of time into all your characters. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

They might forever be ugly alts, but I would like them to have just the right touch of macho and ambiguous sexuality. And for that to happen, I will probably have to recycle them a dozen or so times.
I'll be satisified with the character creation procedure for like a day, but something will present itself to me, and off I go. I'm just like that
PS It's nice to see you again Misanth ---

I'm still disappointed with you, not running to install a beer fountain in the CCP HQ.
And I'm just back for forum PvP anyhoo, no time for playing the game. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

The bolded part refer to creating alts for suicide gankng only and recycling them when the sec status become too low.
As long as you have your fun with suicide attack in high sec and then pay the penance recovering you sec status or living with a negative sec status it is all ok.

I know, I left a lot of See and Pee'ers disappointed, I'm sorry :( Rest assured though, the goal of the beer fountain still stands, maybe I can sneak it in during Fanfest?

Yes dear sir, I realise this However, that is not what the devblog said, they did not specify that particularity :)

I expect that will depend on the interpretation of events by the GM that investigates. If he accepts your cover story then you are fine. If not, then not. Really this comes down to the whim of the GM, so if you are not happy with playing the GM good-day/bad-day lottery then don't recycle an alt in a way that appears to be done to avoid the consequences of negative security status.

Have any accounts actually been banned for recycling suicide gankers?

Jeez, can no one actually comprehend what I am asking here? I'm fully aware of the deal with recycling alts due to low sec status. What I am trying to discover here is the legitimacy of recycling alts for any other reason, be it due to cosmetic appearances, poor choice of skill plan or any other, non-security status related issue. ---

Context is everything, so I'll bold the important part:

On the other hand, each one will now cost you 20m ISK less, so count your blessings there. Also, recycling alts is against the rules and will get you banned.
Obviously, biomassing a char every once in a while because you need the slot is not a problem. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the biomass button. Doing it regularly is another matter. Especially if the new char serves the same purpose as the old one.

That is very true and an important point to highlight, thanks However, I would be grateful if you know offhand where it says that regularly creating and biomassing characters will get you banned ---

Is this the time I should admit I biomassed my main back in 2005? Can I still expect repercussion? - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

I've never seen a list of these type of rules nor could I initially understand what prinicple would outlaw this rather tame sort of action . (player scams often use out-of-game trust , really sort of tawdry, to work ... leveraging mechanics quirks to trick someone into getting red (opening a can that says "read me") are completely legal
...but playing a character designed to live hard and die young is illegal? compared to getting someone to open a "looking for recruits" can or inviting them to a fleet then killing them.. just straitforwardly playing a suicide bomber doesn't take advantage of peoples errors.
Preying only on children and the weak seems tawdry to me... yet thats allowed ... while creating anarchy by being able to create a never ending legion of mis-adjusted boneheads willing to try to topple the entrenched from their sense of saftey and privalege is banned!
I sense a CONSPIRACY of the ELITE ! ( ; ) )
The only explanation I recieced in a similar thread that I started a couple weeks ago (reading the same quote you gave with suprise) was that the recycling was some how deemed against the notion of "persistancy of the vitural uninverse". Well, that does hold some water. I'm generally in favor of breeding a persistant universe, but the flow of new chracters trying the game and quitting really waters downn any effect a small percentage of players creating a new character then bimassing it after a short life of crime a little mroe than once a month. (could it be a european distaste for the death penalty ? ; ) )
I can name all sorts of other things that jarr the notion of the virtual universe.. (inane charcter names ...discussion of meta gaming or out of game topics in local, and others I can think of later..
No, this policy isn't about holding a higher standard of game play.. its about protecting the well connected industrialists and their political power base.... special interest politics!

I hear the penal system of New Eden's overlords is very firm and not turgid in the slightest. It is forever tumescent! ---

That was called sarcasm. Apparently it slipped past you.
FWIW I agree with your interpretation of the previously announced rules - biomassing a character to escape the penalties of negative sec status is a no no, but otherwise it's ok. --Vel
