The Pink Bunny Test is the last, best hope for banning macros, here is how it works:
1) Allow GMs to turn off mining modules (and only mining modules) 2) Allow GMs to minimize all active windows. 3) Allow GMs to spawn a Pink Bunny over the module buttons. 4) Allow GMs to open a chat box irrespective of client restrictions directly above the modules
Test Results: If the player reactivates their modules then bot, otherwise enjoy the funny conversation which will follow.

I am very serious about this suggestion. I don't know how you make a bot respond to it. ====================================== Want isk? So does everyone in Jita, so leave before they get yours. ====================================== |

Edited by: Laxyr on 15/12/2010 13:29:58 Regardless of how your (or any) system against bots works you will always encounter a serious problem.
You presume that CCP has the manpower to do such a thing and is willing to dedicate that manpower to this task. Now, my impression from the petitions I've made has always been that CCP does clearly not have the manpower for customer support. If that weren't true I wouldnt always get copy pasted answers or answers that imply that the respondent stopped reading the petition after the first line.
The flaws of an automated bot recognition tool have been posted in these forums numerous times.
I do agree that we should get rid of bots. Beyond the question of how to do such a thing lies another question: what's the impact on the eve economy gonna be like?
Your proposal might work, you might catch a few bots but you will **** off more players in return for that and you will certainly tie a significant amount of CCPs manpower to that issue alone.
I've always wanted to make a gift to CCPs CEO but then again, it would be wasted money.

I really don't think the manpower is the issue. CCP can easily spawn a dozen pink bunnies at once and use one guy/gal to spend 4-5 hours per day on this issue. It can easily be a rotating job at CCP, its sort of a "take out your frustration" time.
If a player get's ****ed they got suspected of being a bot, then I think they need to relax, because at most they lost a few minutes of mining. CCP can easily know if the player has been checked recently and choose to disregard checking them too often. We can add notes to our "show info", I am sure they can do the same.
@CCP-pass around the rotating ban bat and let your devs/workers have fun playing big mean pink bunny.

Eve would be a laughing stock because the gms used a pink bunny to catch botters?
Well I'd welcome that kind of joke. ====================================== Want isk? So does everyone in Jita, so leave before they get yours. ====================================== |

I like the idea too... cept instead of a pink bunny I'd prefer to see a GIANT SPACE WHALE OF DOOM.
Seriously though... it just seems a bit too... invasive for my tastes. And I don't think that a giant bunny (or whatever) will prevent people from operating their interface. There's still F1, F2.
I rather see something where you have a space whale come into the belt and "swim" through it, popping everyone in its wake. The cycle would be random and you would have proper warning in the form of a graphic of a whale in the background getting every closer and closer to the belt. Then, rrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMFFFFFFFFF... pop, pop, pop. Real players will be able to guesstimate when it's about to come based on how close it looks... macro-bots wouldn't (I think) as their is nothing tangible to measure. _______________________

It is invasive, but I think it has to be if CCP is going to get a handle on this issue.
Thanks for the post

You realize many people afk mine, they prolly mash the F1 key and wouldnt notice the module change.
if you want to really stop botts you have to make a serious stand, you ban someone who could be a bot, investigate, then unban if it turns out it wasnt. i think a large majority of bots are obvious, they rat for 15 hours a day or so, insta ban if done more then once a week, investigate, ok he was a bot, perma ban the IP/account/ and credit card if used.
you can also go by seniority if you do a large ban wave, a player doesnt usually turn thier account into a bot unless thats the plan from the start.

They should do it for people in combat too. They just need to reactivate their weapons, scramblers, webbers Ect. Fact is, as a minor I don't want anyone turning off my lasers. I would reactivate fast and be ****ed off they got turned off and jacked up a cycle. It would have the same effect on a miner as if they turned off your modules during combat.

so guilty till they are proven innocent
my idea is like the bug hunting team to have a team that goes out and hunt macros now i am talking players here volunteers (non combat)
how this work we the players petition the macro. a list is made then divided by the volunteers then the volunteers use the find player mod watches them play for 10-15 minutes if he or she thinks they are a macro then stage 2 happens
as the op said they open a window with a title like ccp macro investigation room 1,2,3, ect... with the same property's as the local window can't be closed. type hello, hi, привет, whatever using the area they state they are from give them the time it take to fill the ship with cargo mods and rig to reply as they could be afk miners same sort of idea with the ratters
record the outcome and send the log to ccp or have it so it automatic send the file log to ccp with a volunteer comment this is a macro this is not if it is the account banned if not name added to clear list so people can't use it to harass players clear list to last x amount of time so players don't go I'm clear lets macro.
reward the volunteers with game time to play the game. maybe bring some to fanfest to give info on what they are doing.

Not sure on the whole bunny thing, but way I figure this, part of the underlying problem is AFK-mining. Which is to say, people want to zombie mine, and from that perspective are opposed to anything that would require a human response kinda thing from their end. So, maybe the AFK-mining mentality has to go, or be outlawed even. Because botting is never gonna go as long as people want their own mining to be bot-like too. --

I like the guy form wildly inappropriate's idea on it. A macro hunter team designed to hunt down a macro miner, which will always be mining solo.
Either that or hulkaggeddon needs to be sponsored by CCP...

I admit I am not a miner, I did it until I could abide the zombie no longer. I would do it if my brain were required.

It is a cute idea at first, but a new player is mining with mining drones that doesn't have combat drones dies as he can't evade them.
