Wasn't quite sure where to stick this thread, mostly PvP questions so I guess it fits here...
So I have taken a break since the last patch was released as I was kinda upset over EvE in general. I kept my skills training but didn't log in much. I got kicked from our corp (understandable for being gone for so long) but thats ok, as I was looking for another anyway.
Now here is the issue. I am now going to be returning to EvE and wanted to get out to 0.0 with an established corp. So many questions centered around wtf I need to do to get this done.
I have 33 MIL SP so I guess im ready to shelf my +5 implants and risk my life. Heavy into Launcher and industrial setups. Elite Planetary Interaction skills. Very little in electronic warfare or scanning (but I can train up quick) . Mostly looking to do whatever I want out there, PI, Gang up to PVP, Mine, Rat.
1. How to I get into a decent corp? Can someone suggest one to me?
2. How does one PvP? What ships do I use to PVP? On this one I am a TOTAL PVP noob. 3 losses 0 kills on my chr sheet. Total carebear so far. Any suggestions on how to get up and running with PVP? Suggestions please, im lost. Even good reading material on Best PvP practices would really help.
I have a roommate who also plays and we help each other out. However the whole moving out to 0.0 idea seems to be a bit confusing on logistics.
I need help here. I need to generate some fresh and newness to my EvE experience. I want to see for myself blob warfare. I feel that if I can't seem to motivate myself I will probably pull my subscription until the next expansion. Maybe see if anything nifty comes in 33 days. (at least PI will be fixed, thats what I was hoping for the most and its not done yet)
Thanks so much for the help trying to get this care bear back into the game he once loved and maybe even break out of his care bear shell :)
Ships I most commonly use:
Missioning: Drake/Raven Mining: Iteron IV, Mackinaw, Hulk Salvaging: Harbinger

Um first off, watch for scams. Any alliance you join, search the forums first to make sure they are legit and aren't just scamming you. As for finding a decent corp, you may wish to check the recruitment forums.
2: For your first PvP experience, have you thought of Red vs Blue? these are two corporations setup in Gallante space. Their sole purpose is to fight each other. They generally stick to T1 Frigates and Cruisers. Combat happens often enough and they don't mind helping less skilled players understand the basics of PvP. Basically, it's a fun, cheap, and easy way to try PvP. Better to try it in hi sec, instead of heading to Nul only to find out you hate it. It won't give you the full blob/capital mess, but it's a great start.

well i would say u are ready to go into a indy 0.0 corp your drake pvp fit would be wanted for cta's some alliances don't make there indy guys go on cta's other need everyone they can get. Most of the logistics is taken care of by the new corp/alliance you will be joining as if you don't have a carrier/jump freighter yourself. I personally don't know any good 0.0 indy corps as i was always in a pvp corp. For you just use a drake its cheap its uber its part of 500 fleets made up almost solely of drakes NC and stain wagon are just some names of ppl that use lots of drakes fleets ask for a drake fit for your alliance. If you dont want to lose a 60m drake get a black bird and fit it for ecm u wont be turned down for roams if u are they ecm guy. I hope that wasnt to much at once :)

I highly recommend taking Agony Unleashed's PvP courses. They start out with PvP basic and continue on from there. They have a very good reputation (please, ask around!), and can help prepare you for life in 0.0.

If you have trouble getting into a class, please send me a pm on the agony site.

Since I'm pretty bored with carebearing myself, I'm willing to take you with me to pvp. If you play between 8 - 11 pm Pacific Time GMT -8
skill-wise, make sure you can fit t2 web and scramble

I didn't do the Agony Courses, but I know of folks who are very pleased with them. Really, you aren't going to easily get into a nullsec corp without a little experience, unless they are a training corp.
I'd start with the Agony courses, and get some kills and experienced losses under your belt. The short list of things you need for 0.0 PvP: 1. A healthy attitude about losing your ship and pod 2. The ability to fit an MWD, a Point (Warp Disruptor) and Web (Stasis Web) on a frigate 3. An open mind and willingness to learn by dying (possibly a lot)
You sound like me about 1.5 years ago. The hardest thing is learning to lose ships and being ok with that. Every ship in your hangar in 0.0 is already spacedust - you just don't know it yet...

Congratulations good sir. You have taken your first steps towards your balls dropping and your hair growing. Let's get down to business...

Bluntly put... you don't find GOOD corps... they find you. You just have to stick your neck out there for a bit to get noticed by them. In the meantime, you can find yourself a decent corp with which to hone your skills (both character and player) with.
Because you are a bit "green" with PvP I'd recommend Agony Unleashed or Red vs. Blue (Red Federation vs. Blue Republic). The former corp is an actual teaching corp that helps you understand the basics of combat and the mechanics of it... along with some handy tactics. The latter corp(s) are basically 2 corps in a state of perpetual war. They "specialize" in cheap frigate-cruiser combat to help you get into the whole "mentality" of PvP (which can best be summed up as, "your ship is expendable, die and get a new one")

Any ship can PvP (even industrials)... though certain ships are better at it than others. The BIGGEST things about PvP though lie in HOW you fit your ship, selecting targets, and (again) seeing your ship as a mere tool that helps you achieve your goals/aims.
I'd recommend browsing the Warfare and Tactics and the Ships and Modules forum sections for more details. Ask anything you like but take all advice with a grain of salt (not every ship, fitting, and/or tactic will be good for every scenario).

Look at the different 0.0 corps/alliances out there and talk with their representatives (usually found in their public channels). Ask about their logistics, their reimbursement policies, their market policies, and what they would expect of you as a member. Generally speaking... if you are accepted in all you need to do is just go out there. No need to bring stuff with you.

Remember to have your overview reconfigured (so it doesn't show information you don't specifically need), set your graphic settings lower than normal, and have your brackets turned off. All will go a long way to helping you deal with "blob warfare." _______________________

Hi
Join the agony course to get yourself started and learn the basics cheaply.
Dont join RvB, the only thing you will learn here is how to get yourself ganked over and over. People will tell you that there is alot of organised fights in RvB, but that is a downright lie, there hasn't been an organised fight in months. RvB typically revolves around red sitting in station spinning ships, blue outside station camping. Goto Halle x-sense in a cloaked ship and watch it for yourself if you want to be sure.
Also, RvB rules mean squat, you are not allowed to use neutral alts for leadership buffs, yet it happens all the time. So unless you have a leadership alt you will not be able to compete as well and thus you will become ****ed off and fed up which isnt good for you learning to PvP.
Now, where did i leave those ECM burst's

Edited by: Sraik Doubter on 17/12/2010 17:33:08 Would like to recommend PWNED Factor. Fun group of folks; suffering a bit during the holidays activity-wise, but an enjoyable place to learn some PvP basics. I have very much enjoyed the highly relaxed environment there. Public Channel is PWNED ZONE.
As others have stated, Agony has an excellent reputation as well. Just look around. There is fun to be had.

Agony Unleashed PVP-Uni classes.
Really - its the best 20 mill you will ever spend. After a PVP-Basic roam in null you will know for sure whether PvP is for you or not.
Overviews - there's some guy in Finfleet who did a zip file of overviews IIRC. Brother something or other? Worth downloading them all and importing them. Someone will probably be along with a link soon.

Take it for what you will, but learn how to die and enjoy it. Set aside 50 mil ISK, buy some T1 frigs and cruisers, move your medical clone to someplace close enough to 0.0/lowsec to suit you and go nuts for a week or two.
Learn some tricks, learn to avoid camps, get good with using the DS under pressure, learn the unfortunate needed habit of making sure your clone is up to date.
Along the way, that corp you're looking for might make it self apparent if you lol at the smack and enjoy your self.

You learn to PvP by dying a lot, so start small and work yourself up
Reason is that the adrenaline kick you get the first 30-40 times essentially shut down your brain and invokes the flee response. Once that kick is brought under control you start being able to visually inspect hostiles on the fly and make sound tactical decisions.
Find a frigate you like, train all skills even remotely related to it to 4 (5 for weapons, you want T2), grab thermodynamics and you are ready to rock'n'roll.
Eve University, if they are still around, used to run some courses that came highly recommended. FW provides lots of low-key drama and excellent PvP opportunities if you wander a bit of the beaten paths. Piracy is probably not an option as it would bar you from your high-sec assets, but is also available.

So very true. 90% of PvP is learning to control your adrenaline response so you aren't past your peak when the action starts.
Having all your adrenaline dump before the fight starts, resulting in the shakes by the time "it's on", usually means you die without firing a shot in response.
