Ingame petition recommended I come here. I haven't logged alot of hours, so I may be missing something basic. Or not... I'll just paste what I put in the petition. Appreciate any feedback.
Agent is Erocque Fintere. Mission is Murderer Brought To Justice on Vittenyn.I've been running missions for this agent without a problem in my Catalyst. He hands me this one, and I'm up against 3 heavily armed ships as well as the prey. I was running for my life before I could scratch the paintwork of one ship. I bought a cruiser, and outfitted it only to suffer the same result. I ran in and had a quick look and found these "bodyguards" are also cruisers, but are obviously so overgeared as to not be beatable. This is not in the line of other lvl 2 missions and has cost me well over what rewared I would have recieved for completing it. Also, at this difficulty, I cannot complete it, so will be losing in reputation. I know missions are supposed to get progressively more difficult. This mission isn't what I'd call progressive. Thanks

lvl2 missions are more geared towards cruisers.

Ok, well there's no real way of knowing that, but I'll accept that. But you missed the two things I said in this. I had already done a number of lvl 2 missions for this agent in my Catalyst. I had no problems running them. Until this mission. I bought a cruiser. I was being battered just as bad as I was in my Catalyst.

Sounds like either your fitting, skills or both need work. If you want advice on improving those and any of the miriad other things that tax new players I can't recomend enough joining a friendly player corp where people will be more than happy to help you out and give advice/free isk.
If your determined to go solo, http://eve-survival.org and http://www.battleclinic.com are great websites to check out.
and for trying out fittings EFT can be found here http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=548883
and for planning your skill training eve mon can be found here http://evemon.battleclinic.com/
While these sites/utillities are great tools. Nothing beats having a bunch of friendly players to teach you all the tips and tricks of playing eve. Its also a lot more fun playing in groups.

I prefer EVEHQ myself. It includes a skill planner, fitting planner and a dozen other tools under one program, I've found I don't need anything else. I don't have a ready link because I just woke up and don't want to google it.
The issue is a common one. The solution is probably to re-evaluate how you are fitting your ship. If your skills are low, the brute force over-tank method will probably work best--- Get on Eve survival, look at what kind of damage the mobs do, and install hardeners against the damage types that the rats do. I usually go with 2 of their highest damage, and one of their secondary damage type along with an Armor repairer or sheild booster, depending on the ship I'm flying.
If you post the ship you are trying to do these missions with, most of the forum dwellers here will toss you about 10 fits to try off the top of thier head.

Hmmm yes, Forgot EVEHQ. tried it once and my computer didn't like it so I stuck with mon and eft. I was hesitant to say post a fitting as along with the 10 suggestions for improvements come a 100 troll posts about it ;-) now if thats not a deterrant then post away. However I maintain that talking direct to corpmates (who you might feel like giving your limeted api key to which helps) is better than asking for help on the forums. Not cause you don't get good advice, but it tends to get drowned out by the flamers. However simply saying wich race/cruiser you were flying might elicit advice/fittings without actually saying what you had on it.
edit: oh and lvl 1 = Frig/Destroyer lvl 2 = Cruiser lvl 3 = BC (Battle Cruiser) lvl 4 = BS (Battle Ship) lvl 5 = fleet of BS plus support You can generally fly one lvl up, so you CAN fly BC in lvl 4 or destroyer in lvl 2. but its much harder and requires better skills. (and is useually less profitable per hour due to increased lengh of time to complete mission)

Great, this is some good valuable intel right here! If there's more you all can impart, I'll keep checking back. I'm in a corp with a few friends, which of course, doesn't help much, but I'll keep that in mind for the future. Eve-survival may be the go with that. Looks like I'll be sinking some ISK in the cruiser. Cheers all. o7

If you really want help with your fittings then I would be happy to help. Would need to know what race and ship you flying though. however I am expecting this thread to get moved to ships and fittings or eve general discussion sometime soon as it doesn't really belong in features and ideas.
If you wanted to have some help slightly more privately you're more than welcome to send me an ingame mail. If you tell me what race ships you fly I can give you advice on which are good missioners and what fittings to put on them.
The trick is comming up with fittings based on your skills as they are or soon will be. Which is what the limeted API key really comes in handy for. However it should only be shared with someone you trust, which is where the experienced corpmate comes in. I am very trustworthy but you have no way of knowing that ;-)

Where can I find these "friends" you are referring to? I searched the market, I searched contracts, nothing.

There is a little chatwindow named 'corp'. A lot of times when I ask for help in that window some other ships show up and help. Strange isn't it?

There are several lvl 2 missions like this that aren't really do-able even in a cruiser, and are impossible in a lone destroyer. They just aren't balanced well, and no one at CCP seems to care about them as they are not a popular mission level to do.
I suggest you move up to level 3s in a battlecruiser. Thus far, all the level 3 missions I've done are much more uniform in difficulty and well-balanced for a battlecruiser (haven't tried a normal cruiser in them). They also make you more money and more LP than the level 2s.
In order to do the nightmare level 2 missions successfully, I used an alt in a rookie ship with an afterburner. I'd have the alt speed tank or kite the various NPCs while I shot at them with my main in a destroyer. If the alt's rookie ship got blown up once or twice, no big deal - I'm only out one little afterburner and I get a free rookie ship to try again with. If you don't want to screw around with this sort of nonsense (it's a waste of time) just decline all level 2 missions that have a 6-hour bonus timer on them and you'll be much better off.

I don't recall having any problems doing any level 2 missions in my Vexxor. I did, and still do, die occasionally to my own negligence--fall asleep, forget to turn on hardeners, fail to align and/or kill scramblers first--that sort of thing.
Even in Level 2s, you see mostly other Frigates, with some cruisers thrown in. It's not until level 3's that you see the occasional battleship and alot of Ewar.

I just did this mission, and I can say it is rather difficult if you are not prepared.
Key thing is do not warp to zero.
Try to kite them. Try to get your range up to 25km at least. Take out the frig first, as it will be able to get closer to you and has very powerful guns (in my experience at least).
If the cruisers are using missiles, do not use a MWD. An AB will give you enough speed to keep range, and limit damage somewhat.
Also, the low end cruiser is not recommended. What I would recommend is the drone cruiser, with an AB and very heavy tank (as in HP, not mass). The drones can operate at 35km, which is way outside the cruisers hitting range (cept missiles if they use them, though they do relatively little damage). This method will take a while, but you should be able to handle the damage they put out.
