Finally, my 3rd video is done: Skybound.
1680x1050 .avi 35 minutes 1,2gb
I apologize for the file size - an .mkv is in the making and will likely be at roughly 600mb, but experience from earlier test versions says any ingame text will be mangled, so if you have the bandwidth, I strongly recommend downloading the .avi.
Content is mostly pure solo, with some (few) scouted and/or T3 boosted scenes and a single RR'd one.
Previous films can be found here: Serious Business The Good, the Bad and the Hopelessly Clueless
Special thanks go to Alex Stokes, the operator of Strich's Liquid Service, for sponsoring. Check out his business!

Your previous videos were good, this one is excellent. Next to no "filler", only great and interesting fights. The music was great, I love it when old school metal is mixed with classic music.
35 very enjoyable minutes.
By the way, you should set up shortcuts for your modules, I'm sure you'd be even deadlier. ____________________________________________

Some damn really close escapes here (I hardly ever get those myself), but there are also several clips I personally won't have included so it's a bit long overall, but hey, that's your movie :)
I got interested by the NH you had killed and found out that... the dude persistenly uses a cap recharger in his mids Well, if anything, I hope you could extrude some yummy salvage out of it.
All in all, nice try. Knowing how hard it's to get anything killed in low-sec these days, I can't really blame you for the lack of some epic massacres. ---[center] Please resize your signature to the maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist |

Downloading, I can make an .mkv tomorrow if you'd like. The text on the overview will be slightly messed up but if you look at the results from PL's Northern Exposure video that will give you an idea of the quality deterioration. (I don't think it's that bad at all.)

If you'd do that, I'd greatly appreciate it. I had mkv'd the final test version, and the quality was almost exacly like the one you encoded for Kenneth McCoy. Now StaxRip keeps crashing, and I have no idea why.
I'd appreciate it even more if you could upload it to Eve Files. Apparently, Eve Files has issues with the combination of Firefox and .mkv, so if you use some other browser just this once, it should work. Alternately, please upload to a hoster where you can actually save the file without having an account or 3rd party semi legal program. The ultimate niceness would be if you uploaded it somewhere, just told me and then let me crossload it to my personal archieve.

Sad to hear your not really convinced, but oh well.
The Nighthawk dude is a former corp mate and one of the very few people in this game I genuinely do not like, due to the way he treated us/me back then. So, when I saw him in local a vew days previously, I checked his recent kill board stats and found quite a few hilarious fits. Otherwise, I'd probably not have engaged, seeing as my cap was really low.
Also, thanks to the ones I have not quoted! Glad you liked it!

Damnit, now I had to resub just to post to the forums ;-).
The Video was really awesome, for several Reasons: - Classical Music makes the Video feel really different. - Nightwish is a great band - VAN CANTO!!!111oneeleven. Sorry, i'm getting a bit strange when someone uses Van Canto in a Video.
All in all, some great fights, although your module management sometimes kills me (sitting in front of the screen shouting "Hardeners!" or "Damage Control!". Good thing i'm alone at the moment . I can see why you turn on the hardeners late and not from the start, its just my personal experience with forgetting hardeners and dying like a fool).
So, all in all, great Video and keep it up. Well worth the 1.2 Gig Download.

Apparently, you are not the only one with this issue. Others have solved it with changing players; vlc player or media player classic should work.

Most fights where i activate hardeners late were started straight off the jump cloak, and then I worried about getting a point more than about starting tanking. In other instances, hardener or dcu's were switched off by neuts or plain cap shortage. Yes, the Mega in particular is a cap hungry beast.

Thanks, man! Figured out finally that Staxrip had a peoblem with the file, at least on my computer, so I rendered a new .avi with higher quality and used that to create a .mkv. The result is not really spectacular (one might say, rather horrid with a few intersting artifacts), but it looks almost the same as yours and is smaller by 200mb.
Wonder where those issues come from and how others make their crystal clear mkv's. And if there is a way to do that as well if you don't have a single 250gb hard drive to render the file completely uncompressed first.
Also, thanks to the other comments!

I've never had any problems converting to .mkvs (artifacts or anything) with staxrip myself. Though I've noticed that VLC player has a way of being a really bad player ( creating artifacts on its own ) hence I use BSPlayer or Media Player Classic.

Yeah, I had some problems with VLC so I switched to Media Player Classic and I've never had a single problem. Plus video quality is a touch clearer, imo.

Can you expand on that? I really want construcitve criticism. What would you have wanted? Zooms on important aspects? "Bullet time" for crucial moments? More fancy transitions? Detailed list of ships on field?

I hate to be one of "those" people, but I can't get through this video because of player problems :/ Libavcodec skips, Xvid codec crashes, attempting to use VirtualDub to save an uncompressed version to run my own stax encode crashes on frame 136 with a divide by zero error in Xvid. playing back the MKV that you made also skips.
Shame, because this looks pretty good.

What player are you using? If it is a non-standard one, try using Media Player Classic (my Favourite) or VLC player. Sorry for those issues.
Originally by: adriaans Would be nice to have a X vs Y overview, which is really the only editing i ever care about in a video.
Actually, Jaster as my most active test person had criticized their lack as well, but I figured that you can see my ship from the chat cover and the modules, and everything that I fight can be seen on screen.
Quite often, showing all opposing ships to begin with will foreclose the result, and a frame-precise state of participating ships (present/dead/left) is quite bit of work that I deemed not rewarding enough. The next video will be gang work though with some rather more complex fights, so that will have an overview of participants.

Tried both MPC and VLC, but later that night my video card completely died. Replacement card = problems gone. Doesn't solve the divide by zero, which I think may be related to some of the artifacting in the encode, but that's a more minor issue.
Some of the edits were pretty tight, particularly at the end of certain fights, where you put up commentary right at the closing. I kept having to pause the video and run it back to see what text I had missed. Obviously you don't want to show a pod in warp sitting there for 30 seconds, but I think there's a happy medium you can come to.
I would definitely do ship listings as well. We can see it on the overview but it just lends itsself to reading at a glance much easier. If you don't want to spoil a turn then just add the ships to the end of the list, no need to sort them in, and no need to show them coming the precise second they land on grid.
A quick and dirty way to show kills is just to layout your ships present field fully the way you want it, then duplicate it all and put it up on a layer above. Change the color to red or orange or whatever you decide, slice the clips along each time that a ship dies, then go back replace the names of ships that are still alive with spaces. The colored text will cover the original text perfectly because it's based off the same master clip and you don't have to mess around with special styling at each kill. I wouldn't worry about ships that ran away, it would be nice to do them up special, but ships present and ships killed are the most important.
I really liked the classical music choice as well. The first piece was great, the 2nd was ok, just felt a little empty in places.
You've got a lot of stuff in this one too, it almost may have been better to split it up into 2 separate videos (not that I particularly mind long ones). That may have given you room to slow down some of the fastest fights just a little bit more (or parts of them, as needed)
