I wanted to suggest the idea of customizable ship skins to CCP. Now obviously any skins would need to be incorporated into the client so there would be a limit to the customization level, but just imagine going into battle with your Corp logo emblazoned on the side of your pride an joy, or knowing the fear you just cast into your prey as you and twenty of your Corp (read "pirate") buddies descend upon them, your ships all ominously displaying your Corp logo on the side.
Please give us ship skins, CCP!

/signed, afraid that it¦s just too much work and not important enough to bother with it right now. Speaking of alliance or corp logos it certainly could work just fine and add an extra amount of awesomeness to EvE. Just forget about whole skins, they¦d mess up the visuals bad time ("pink mael is now primary") and make some ships (T1/T2) virtually impossible to differentiate.
My guess is that CCP might come up with something like that when they release DUST 514:

CCP already tried this concept when eve was first released. (thats what Ive been told) The reason why they didnt keep it was because there are 50 thousand plus people playing on one server. The lag that the customizable ship skins caused was really bad. The concept will most likely never happen.

Do you know whether they had complete skins or just like small logos/emblems?

Well, never say never. I'm sure computer tech has improved vastly since then.
In any case, I envisage it working like this. All Corp logos are already included in the client, with new ones not displaying until they are added to the client with the next update. This way, the only data that has to be sent to each client from the server is one line of code that tells the client which logo to use, something like "shiplogo = 52" for example ( I'm no programmer obviously, but you get the idea), if your logo happens to be number 52 in the list. The actual graphic doesn't need to be sent from the server because its already locally present in the files of the client. This code would be sent along with the regular info that is sent to it about any nearby ships.
I don't think this would be a problem for CCP.

I would settle for just allowing us to use client side skins that affect all ships of a given type. Some of the color schemes out there are just ugly, I don't have to have the enemies see me flying a pink hello kitty scorpion... but I would like to see myself (and everyone else) doing so.

Every thread made about this brings me closer to my Pink Barbie Dream Raven Convertible.
I will train to a Golem for the extra Cargo room for shoe shopping.

Its already hard to see the shiphull your fighting against, if you want to make people see your corplogo, on the shiphull, it would need to be the size of a Carrier for them to even recognize it. (not that anyone would care about your logo in the first place.)
