Originally by: Mithfindel Edited by: Mithfindel on 10/01/2011 09:37:36 As was suggested, would it be possible to have a "forget about being quick, I want this portrait rendered with every setting on the max" for the client. This would have two important consequences:
1) What You See Is What You Get 2) Said player-rendered images could be uploaded to server, negating the need for CCP to re-render all of the portraits (say hello to Chaos Incarnate).
Naturally, someone will figure out how to tamper with the portrait creation and send a picture of their Thorax instead, so it might be still necessary to do low-resolution re-renders of the portraits and check if there player-created portraits are as expected.
Sorry but... Chaos Incarnate
It had to be done.

Characters that already have been rendered on the server once will not get updated when we remake them in the client. Fresh characters are rendered on the server and they appear to be correct this time.

To me it seems your AA is not working at all. There's no anti aliasing effect to be seen. None what so ever. I don't even run max 8x but thought 4x was good enough and I hardly see any jaggies on my screen. And the graphics driver selected AA type is Adaptive (super sample being better on ATI cards) and the aliasing type is "box" which is the easiest for the card but may not produce the best end result either.

A lot of detail around the eyes and lips seems to change subtly, if I could get another round in, I might have a decent sense of how to pre-adjust for it. This is partly to do with light glare and shadows changing the perceived lines, but also because the client render does some very odd things with the lower eyelids, especially. |

I don't see any cached pics anywhere. can someone give me a typical file path to where these cached pics are usually stored? I have evetest on a separate partition than my TQ, which is on my boot partition (drive L:) but the EVE folder on drive L:/ (like L:/Documents and Settings/Owner/My Documents/Eve) has no pics in those folders at all. the partition where my evetest folder doesn't have anything like what's described by the OP either

http://images.cdn1.eveonline.com/Character/<character id>_512.jpg
example: http://images.cdn1.eveonline.com/Character/1827928168_512.jpg
You can change the 512 to some other sizes that work, don't think there is anything bigger than 512 x 512 though.
That's odd, if I use that link with my character ID it does show my new character but if I start up the test server client it keeps showing the old one even after clearing the cache.

On my client, the 512 pixel images are correct (the new chars made on the (7th?)) I think; but the 256 pixel image is the stubborn one that forces its way back from the server to the client with an OLD image of the very first server render. You'll see yours is different too if you change the link to '256' on the end instead of 512, the pics will be different.

I've just tried that and the 256 x 256 picture is the new one aswell so no problems there.

I hope this is the right topic but I went through the new creator twice. I'd like to keep the pics I created from the 2nd time and the first toon the 2nd time I went thru it has the pics from that 2nd rendering but the other 2 accounts I did has the older ones. I checked that link that people have given to check to see what the server has (I think that's what it is) and they are the newer pics. are the ones I'm seeing when I log on the ones in my client side cache? and if so can I just delete them and have the new ones from the server show up? I cleared my cache and the older ones are still showing when I log bk on.

Made this with the last set of updates. The rendering is improved nicely but I did find a couple issues.
Client Side
Server Side
Mostly with the eyes. The eyes are open to slightly different degrees. Left eye was dulled down by the smoothing process. Uniform pattern is also blurred a bit more too.
The toning down of red doesn't bother me at all but you can see it in the cheeks and lips It appears to be a subtle lighting shift more than anything else with respect to the coloration.

Something I've noticed is that when the Local picture is taken, it removes all AA even if you are running with it on, not sure why to be honest.

Here's a couple more:
Looking pretty good, with the exception of what others have mentioned about clothes being a bit blurrier or maybe even using a lower res texture. Especially notice the rendering of the clothes and clothes shadow on the guy. Also, guy's eyes look slightly different.
Another thing I noticed, every time I've created a female character, they don't seem to have the same positioning movement freedom as the guys do, I can move the men around more in the frame than the ladies... Has anyone else noticed that?

i know the portraits ar rendered on the server now but there is no reason that the capture portrate button was removed. it would still be nice and ocasionally usefull to download the portraits for forum avatars and wanted posters. :Its all fun and games untill your logistics guy tries passive tanking his raven: |

It was made with all the graphics settings on max, so I wasn't expecting much difference but it did clean up some in post server side production. Also the hair changed slightly (bits missing) and it could just be me (or perhaps the alteration of the afore mentioned hair) but the neck seems longer imo.
Though once in game, the little pic on the bottom bar and the character sheet version, now closer resemble Pat Butcher after logging out then back in |

Some rather odd things I saw -- in the chat window you have 2 panes - left that can show text plus picture and right which shows just the picture.
On a few people the right pane image was different than the left (recreated I'd guess - 1 being recent so it hadn't updated) yet the left-side image seems to be the correct version. "Show info" uses the left-side version but some people don't have portraits turned on for their text-chat -- just in that list.
This seems to indicate pulling images from 2 different locations and the differences persisted through gate use, etc...
It may be from local cache but I wonder about it because at least 2 of these "mismatch" situations were people that I'd not bumped into on SiSi before.

I had this problem. The pic in the "show info" pane and in the chat window is the old one, and the one in the character selection screen and on the members list is the new one. I updated several days ago and the problem has yet to resolve itself.

The new portrait I saved two days ago for this alt still does not show up anywhere in the game. But clearly it was saved, because I'm not prompted to use the creator.
When I first saved it, the new one showed everywhere except on the new neo. Yesterday, it reverted all images to the previous one, still like that today.

I *think* I got mine cleared up. I had to go into not only the regular cache (singularity) and check and delete the portraits in each cache category (cache ... cache_backup0 cache_backup1.. etc), but after I logged on and the older pics remained in the chat windows (size 32) I went into the "chat" folder in _evetest_singularity/cache/Pictures/Characters/Chat and delete those as well. basically eliminating any older client side pics (I assume) .. so far, so good
