Tech2 component prices have fallen drastically in the last few months, and we have seen a corresponding fall in the price of tech2 items (albeit proportionally less). The agent drop rates have apparently been increased, and now you can manufacture the components and buy the BPOs on the NPC market. This is a good thing.
Unfortunately, we are about to see a repetition of the Tech2 price problems that occurred last year, and Morphite is the problem... It's only found in one ore, which is only found in 0.0 (afaik), and you need specialist mining skills to extract it. The market has already been cornered and prices have doubled in the last 2 weeks.
The cost of morphite now represents 86% of the total build costs of my tech 2 BPO. This is 7 times the cost of the tech 2 components required.
Morphite used to appear in small/trace quantities in normal roids. It should perhaps be put back.
Fundamentally, the issue is this: There should be more than one source for all bottom-level building components, morphite included.
ps: i am NOT a greedy tech 2 builder. I have 1 BPO, which i recieved 2 weeks ago. I have built 20 units for my own use, and made no isk whatsoever from tech 2 construction. Nor am i ever likely to (see above).

Edited by: meowcat on 17/01/2005 23:23:40 mmm... with the money i save by choosing not to buy any morphite at over-inflated prices, i could sustain our war against wraiths reborn for about 2 years :-)
there's a thought
Lordmix and co were much more fun though

Morphite, Merc and DCM is not going to change. This is how it's meant to be and the market will adjust accordingly. Big profits in DCM? More people do DCM.
Have a nice day!
10 points for directness. It will suck until the existing stuff on the market (some of which is now at or below cost) is cleared.

(1) this is nothing to do with MLM. I am not a representative of the corp, just posting my opinion as a part-time n00b T2 builder.
(2) pls tell me where i said there was 2 shortage of morhpite. There's plenty of it about, just at ridiculous prices. If you are implying that if i were to mine it myself it would become 'cheaper', well then i'd have to get into the whole opportunity cost argument, which is extremely tiresome.

Originally by: *****en The thing is 1 of the only reasons most agent runners can afford tech 2 is the isk they get from the component sales allows them too give it a shot.
For my BPO:
Total cost of Tech2 Components = 40k or less Total Cost of Morphite = 490k
Morhphite doesn't come from agents (afaik)
