Following the release of Incursion and the removing of the learning skills I am offering up the first Release Candidate for EVEMon 1.3.4. Please submit any bugs you find with the RC either in this thread or in the bug reports thread on BattleClinic.
1.3.4-RC1 Installer 1.3.4-RC1 Binaries
More details about the RC and the change notes can be found here.
The static data has been updated for Incursion 1.0.1, this data is incompatible with previous versions of EVEMon. As a result you will be prompted to download the old data by EVEMon, you may choose to do this if you wish, but you will not benefit from the additions made by CCP. This prompt will disappear following the official release of 1.3.4.
Thank you to BattleClinic for hosting EVEMon, and to all of the contributors and testers that have helped us out.

Edited by: Megatfx on 21/12/2010 11:40:03 Thanks using it now.
I had one issue, when I installed the new EveMon over the old one, then restarted after installing .NET 4, EveMon would not work, kept crashing and when I tried to uninstall it said "Please close out Evemon before continuing" even though it was not running. Tried restarting, then uninstalling Evemon without attempting to launch it and got the same error.
Had to manually delete the Evemon folder, then re-install to get it to work.

Previous to installing this Evemon would crash for me (which was fine, since I new an update was incoming).
Now it doesn't crash, however the Ore Indy skill isn't there. Is it there for anyone else? I didn't bother deleting the previous installation, but will if it's required.
Thanks for the update, man.

Because EVEMon from now on (> 1.3.4) will require .NET Framework 4 to run, before you overwrite the files in the EVEMon installation folder or re-install it, you need to have .NET 4 installed first.

If you overwrite the EVEMon files in your EVEMon installation folder, in order to make the new data files to kick in, you have to delete the previous ones (located in %APPDATA%\EVEMon folder). Beware, ones you do that you will not be able to use a previous version of EVEMon.

Few quick notes/issues (don't have a login for battleclinc so posting here rather than in evemon forums)
The message box displayed during install saying you need to install .net4 has \n on second and subsequent lines.
The ORE Industrial Skill isn't displayed on character sheet
Count of known skills is incorrect on character sheet (1 short, presumeably due to ORE industrial)
The ORE Industrial Skill isn't displayed in the skill browser
The Noctis isn't displayed in the ship browser
The Noctis BPO isn't displayed in the item browser
The Noctis BPO isn't displayed in the item browser
I received no message prompting me to download old data. I tried reinstalling the release candiate again and this fixed none of the above issues (except I didn't get the .net message as it had been installed during the first install).
Cheers

In your EVEMon folder in Program Files (or Program Files(x86)) you will find a Resources folder. In that folder are a number of xml.gz files, these represent the EVE static data.
For Vista/W7 copy these files to "c:\users\<username>\App Data\Roaming\EVEMon\"
As pointed out you can also find this folder using "%AppData%\EVEMon"
After that you will start seeing the message about updating your files. Apologies for having to do the data update this way, but we can't publish using our usual method because the new static data will break the current release of EVEMon.

Ok, a little update for those having issues. I got mine running by doing the above.
1. Uninstall 2. Delete any remaining files in Evemon folder. 3. Delete everything in %appdata%Evemon folder. 4. Install new version.
Voila, it works. Ore skill in place.
When I installed it, it suggested updating some files, but I chose "remind me later". It seems to work fine without them. The files were dated from July, so I was hesitant. If I have issues, maybe I'll do that.
Thanks again.

You where prompt to dl the Tyrannis data files as those are still EVEMon's official data files. While running EVEMon 1.3.4-RC1 those data files are not needed and therefore need to be ignored.

Give it an hour or so (which you probably have by now) to ensure that it's not an API Caching issue. If it's still causing problems then post again and we'll look into what could be causing the issue.

Ok that level 3 skill finished and now it's on a level 4. It still says 3280 days which i assume now is your client's limit or something. Also the little bar that says how much percentage is done stays on 0% done for some reason.

Yep after the update I un-installed and then re-installed the client using the installer link in the OP(Not the binaries). I've just cleared the data from the appdata folder and restarted and updated everything and it's still not working.

I was looking into your issue, checking and re-checking the code. There is nothing wrong with EVEMon as far as I can tell. After all if it was a bug it would have been reported by other users too. Two things come in mind that can cause what you are experiencing. 1. Your system clock. 2. You are training a non-public skill.
Your screenshot doesn't give me much to work on. Contact me via EVEMail, if you are willing to send me your settings file, so I can investigate it first hand.

DO NOT let it update or you will loose the Incursion changes (changes to ships, modules, plus you get an empty skill group of learning skills).
You can disable it from Tools>Options>Updates by unchecking the auto-update. Be sure to remember to check it again ones the official 1.3.4 is released.

Speaking as a Linux user, I am significantly disappointed that you are moving to .Net 4.0. As a result, your application no longer works under Wine, and I can no longer use the application.
I would think you would at least put out a post-learning skill version so that we weren't left completely high and dry.

No Thanks on .NET 4.0 checking in.
What's the reason for this? If it's because EVEMon actually uses some new and cool feature of .NET 4.0, that's one thing. But it's another thing entirely if the developers are forcing everyone else to install .NET 4.0 because VS Express 2010 mandates its use.
Ultimately the blame lies with Microsoft for releasing new .NET and Visual Studio versions every year whose only purpose is to lock in developers and users. Please, guys, don't force us to install more stuff we don't really need unless there's a good reason for it. |

I cannot talk for EveMon, but since .net 2.0 and VS 2005, you can choose your "Target Framework" VS2010 still lets you work with 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 in one environment. Due to compile changes between .net 1.0/1.1 and 2.0, thatÆs why 1.0/1.1 isnÆt supported. Also, upgrading a framework isnÆt such a big deal, itÆs not like it runs æall the timeÆ, and is only accessed when needed by applications at runtime.

Except that, as pointed out, this makes the application inaccessible for a not insignificant number of users. Still, it is a significant relief to see mono support in the works.

Received an e-mail from Vehlin today. He was unexpectedly called away, however he has returned and will be issuing a new release candidate as soon as time allows.
EVEMon has been a .NET 2 app for a long time, missing out on the new APIs and some of the language features from .NET 3, 3.5, 4 and C#3 and 4.
Tools such as LinqBridge and clever utilization of VS2008's multi-targeting features have given us access to up-to-date IDEs without changing our dependency on .NET 2. However the switch to VS2010/.NET 2.0 projects gave rise to some unusual designer bugs that were hampering development and sucking up the precious little time I had.
The final straw was one of our major contributors had access to VS2010 + CodeRush but only VS2008 Express. In my mind the move to VS2010/.NET 4 is a sensible one, more contributors had access to the software to improve their productivity and the future of has access to improved APIs and new technologies.
I am sorry to those who are unwilling to install .NET 4, and I hope you have enjoyed using EVEMon while it has been on the .NET 2.0 platform.
To Linux and Mac users, we have made attempts to provide compatibility for non Windows users, however EVEMon was and is a Windows application.. I have spent some time working on Mono compatibility (both from a compiler standpoint and a runtime standpoint) and will continue to do so as time allows.

It's sad that so many people buy into the fiction that every new MS dev suite "improves productivity". If VS 2010 causes "unusual designer bugs" with older code then I would classify it as a piece of **** that destroys my productivity, not something that improves it.
Thanks for the work through .NET 2.0, though, it was fun while it lasted. |

I already have .NET 4 installed for various other reasons. So, I'm totally fine with it (as long as it doesn't try to mess up my current .NET 4 install, like trying to copy not-up-to-date files over it).
Me? I just like to see EVEMON released. It's been a great while now since the removal of the learning skills. And a long-term plan really slows EVEMON down now, as it frantically keeps (calculating and) suggesting I train learning skills first. With the advent of Incursion 1.0.3 tomorrow, I fear a new official release will take even longer.
I'm not complaining, though. EVEMON has been an essential tool for me all along. I'd just like to start using a new official release (not a RC) any time in the foreseeable future. :) --

I read there are going to be changes to the API as well. If it takes the EVEMON developers also more than a month to incorporate those, then we might be looking at the end of EVEMON. :(
And sadly there are no alternatives for it yet. Getting a mite worried here. --

As long as I am around, this won't happen as I'm constantly pocking the Lead Dev about it.
In a previous post of mine, I mentioned that a new release of EVEMon would be much likely happen, after CCP had finished the deployment of the Incursion expansion (blame it on the boogy ).
After all, changes have been made to the DB again for this patch, so we have to wait for the SDD in order to sync EVEMon with those changes.

Thank you kindly for the reassurement. EVEMON, like cap, is life. :) Couldn't imagine being without it.
And thank you, and the entire dev team, for all the hard work! --

Based upon the patch notes, none of the changes to the API will effect EVEMon's existing functionality.

Where are the portraits downloaded from in EVEMon as they still show the old ones?

There is nothing you can do about it atm as the web address for the portraits has changed and EVEMon needs to be adjusted to reflect that.

Actually there is. Its not as easy to use as EVEmon, but it dost of the same things. Granted it is not a stand alone program, but a plug in for EVEHQ.
I prefer EVEmon. I love the virtual server function, but downloading a 50+ meg library suit for a relatively small program is ridiculous.

It's been stuck at "release candidate" for a month now - anything on the horizon?

A workaround on how to update EVEMon with your new character portrait can be found here.

Any reason I should be reluctant to use .net 4? I'm a W7 user if that helps. |

It's fine; don't worry. I use Win 7 64-bit, and I have .NET 4 installed too (for some AviSynth subtitle plugin). Works like a charm. |

Getting ever-so slightly disheartened here. :(
I know the EVEMON devs are waiting for just the lastest patch before they make an official release. But you know what?! There's always going to be a next patch! I really wouldn't mind seeing a new version (trying to move a skill up- and down in a two-year plan, whilst EVEMON frantically tries to calculate your winnings if only you trained learning skills, takes for ever; and I have an i7 980X, btw). --

Just install the RC linked earlier like the rest of us did a month ago and you will be fine.
