A year and a half ago I started playing this wonderful game, I don't even remember what inspired me. I joined a starting corp with the intent to find things out on their own instead of following 'common knowledge'. We had fun, we laughed alot, we explored the game, we discussed, we mined built wormhole'd and got wardec'd and loved every second of it. I had a run-in with pirates in a low-sec zone, I got pod ransomed. I couldn't be happier, I had read about it but never experienced it myself, and now here I was being held ransom for my (clone's) life! I paid up, and afterwards I got to talking to the guy. Ended up making a friend and learning alot, joining them on some runs, seeing even more of the game. Ended up building a battleship for them even. I've played the market, run missions, gotten killed ten times over and every time I left station I knew losing my ship was a real risk. I knew I could end up destitute, shipless and basically back at square 1 (minus skills at least). I've lost implants on a clone, ended up as head of industry in the corp and spent more hours online than I care mention
Then I quit. Today I took up the 5-day reactivation offer I found in my inbox, and simply put: I'm in love again. The sandbox, the scale, the grandeur, the fact that it's a harsh unforgiving realistic world. EVE is the ultimate game, and I for one am a fan for life. I hope it stays the way it is, with canflipping suicide ganking ransoming pirating wardec'ing grieving lifewrecking FUN

Came expecting a sarcastic-whine thread, left pleasantly suprised.
Good for you, its always good to see a satisfied eve player.
Also, inb4 the whiners start bashing you and CCP.

Amen. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

its kept me going for over 7 years now.
the great thing about eve, you can still be "active" but play other things as well, Eve is like an easy going mistress you can pickup and put down as needed.

5 years, 4 months and 19 days for me, and not looking to quit anytime soon. It really is the best game ever.
I remember when i started, i'd never played an MMO before and was kinda annoyed at other players "messing things up", but after getting in an awesome corp one month in, i was sold on the whole MMO-part - before that it was just ELITE II : Frontier on steroids me (man i loved that game), hehe

Same situation here, came back after 3 years and suddenly everyone of the old corp starts to come out of their holes as well... its great joy to see all the dumb****s from the old times to be here again. =)
Eve is great because you can lose pretty much everything everytime. And you're most likely always flying something you cannot afford to lose until you do, then you quit... get back, do the same mistake AGAIN and finalyl adjust and come to love the game. TIll you hate it again, but in teh end you always come back.
And yeah, eve is dying in about 10 years its dead. What a shame. Wish it lasted longer :P

Couldn't agree more with the OP.
To me, it the community. The ability to connect with players from around the world on a scale I've never before experienced is well worth the $15 a month.

I agree. To help more people join I went to my local game shop today. And before I left I moved all the eve box-sets to the front. Just helping in my own little way.

I picked up the trial of Eve roughly two years ago (I think it will be two years ago this weekend), rolled a random character based on the way the backstory fit my mood at the time, and started monkeying with it.
3 days later I subscribed, and I have been hooked ever since.

Hmmm...It was late in the night back in 2006 when I've got a marketing e-mail from IBM regarding their "Supercomputing project in the gaming industry" - it was a Case Study for Tranquility
I checked the eveonline.com web site and signed up for a trial - it was not Descent Freespace type of experience (as I was hoping for), but after a couple of days I was deep into the world of EVE. A couple of months later I had 7 accounts and 20 characters First mission in Otela First low-sec encounter with pirates First ransom and First blown ship First Mining Op with Bantam First Corp First 0.0 PvP with my tackling Rifter First Mining Op in 0.0 First War Supply Chain and Anshar Convoy in 0.0 First 0.0 Corp Relocation First Director Position First Market Speculation First POS in 0.0 First Cap Fight First POS in high-sec First Large Scale BPO Research First Station Construction First Wormhole...
These are probably only 20% of the "Firsts" I've experienced in this game, and there are so many more to come!
I am not addicted - currently I hardly have enough time to play more than 2-3 hours a week, because of RL, kids, wife etc., but EVE is in my mind and heart all the time.
And I remember not only the "Firsts", but all other experiences, "Seconds", "Thirds" etc...
Incursion, Incarna and Dust will bring more breath and depth in the sandbox and most importantly MORE PLAYERS of different kinds, who would never be attracted to Flying in Space game only.
The bigger the player base is, the bigger the CCP revenue is, the bigger the EVE world will become!
Go CCP, Go EVE - we love THIS GAME!

I agree, similar story to mine. This is the the first MMO I actually sought out and researched, rather than being referred by a friend. The best thing I ever did game wise.

Bashing CCP is fun though, especially if it help its employees realize thier game has some serious issues. Patting CCP on the back for doing a mediocre job, isn't a good thing.
CCP isn't a child who needs a boost so that maybe it won't be completely dysfunctional when it grows up. It's a business, its doesn't have 'feelings', seriously, get a grip will ya.

Was just about to make an "I love Eve" post myself, I figure I will just hop on yours. Been playing since '06, Many accounts later, cap fights, w-holes, gate camps and roams I have recently fallen back in love with low-sec. You know that place that everyone says is "broken"? I live next door to two huge pirate corps all blinky and red and I manage to have a great time, dodging them, going about my business, and occasionally stalking them as they think they are stalking me. I love Eve, every part...even the "broken ones"
Merry Christmas Eve players and all those working hard at CCP trying to do the impossible(make everyone happy).
