If you like eve, sandbox, annoying UI, and a learning curve (the latter three all being properties of eve anyways), you'll probably like X3TC.

Supreme Commander 2 is probably worth a shot now after all the core game mechanic changes that have been done to the game since it was released. Plus there is now a high res texture pack and several nice sc:fa import mods that are nearing completion to get it closer to the sc:fa feel.

So I bought a few things:
The Witcher: Enhanced edition - I had the original in a boxed version... Dunno, can't get myself to play.
Shatter: looks like a good casual game with interesting ideas, but lasts a few minutes (for me).
King Arthur: looks good, but can't be bothered to continue playing after 30 mins.
Tropico 3: Absolute Power - this one is quite enjoyable, lovely music and not too annoying (except the earthquakes). Played a few hours already.
Crysis: still too damn slow on my not-too-shabby PC, more of a graphics demo than a game apparently. Borderlands is a similar game and much, much more fun. Also, Crysis installs a lot of junk you don't want and need to uninstall separately (PunkBuster, Gamespy Comrade).
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

Steam is terrible for this type of impulse buy as I have fell prey to it myself. Your like hey its 80% off so why not then you buy it and realise why its 80% off.

Bah @ you. I thought the Witcher was a great game, despite it's bugs.
Also, it had nude women (honorable mention).

Steam impulse buys when there's such discounts are great - it's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done. Also, Ç5 is 2 bags of peanuts around here.
Much worse are the hype buys like CoD: Black Ops for Ç59,90, which is (to me) a pile of poo, the single player campaign is ridiculous (perhaps because I'm not 14 anymore).
As for the Witcher - yeah, when I first played it, I spent a couple of hours on it and found it decent, but nowdays the bar has been raised by amazing instant gratification games like L4D2 (Versus mode).
Now I guess I'll check out the much-hyped Meat Boy at some point, but the last time I enjoyed such platform games was when Pitfall 2 came out on the 2600 (and to some extent Jet Set Willy on the XL).

Edited by: Irida Mershkov on 30/12/2010 13:24:14 ^^^^ If you like hardcore platformers, get Super Meat Boy, very very fun and aggravating game.
Buy Witcher for the boobs and huge universe. Stay for the fact it takes 15gig on my hard drive and like **** am I re downloading that. This Steam sale has done well by me so far, got quite a few new games to the backlog with the only one I regret getting being Alpha Protocol because it is terrible.
That said and my mate thought it would be hilarious to gift me Railworks 2 as a chirstmas present therefore ****ting up my steam list. The bastard.

Bought this one myself and I'm surprised how engrossed I've become with it. It's a worthy iteration of the 'simcity' genre and using the games 'antagonist' as a narrator is brilliant. In fact there's a lot of subtle elements that work rather well.
Sound and graphics are great, would recommend. My main complaint is placing roads where you want them is a pain in the a**.

Anyone here tried Singularity before? It's 50% off but still a ú10 and a bit unsure whether to fork for it or not.

Lol, that's happening with ALL of EA's games it seems. A bunch of people in the MWLL community bought Crysis Wars and very few people's CD keys work out of the box (download), have to contact EA to get new ones.

I did. I'd say - if you liked Prey, Half-Life 2 etc., you will probably get at least 7-8 hours of good, creepy playtime out of it. It has a decent storyline and it's more atmospheric than Fallout 3 for sure, though very linear, like Metro 2033. The 3D engine is very good, runs very smoothly at 1920x1200.

Only just got back to my computer but read this on my phone yesterday, so cheers and bought!
Edit: Only thing that interests me today is Anno 1440 and Far Cry 2, caved on Far Cry but time to check reviews out for Anno.

I am avoiding both because 3rd party DRM has screwed up my PC too often ... (1404 has SecuROM and Far Cry 2 has TAGES).

Anyone recommend Zeno Clash? Steam forum reviews are calling it a hidden gem and it's in the sale, but I don't know whether the reviews are from the dev team as there aren't many of them.

Zeno Clash is frickin' amazing. The graphics are incredibly good for a professional game, let alone a Ç3 indie game (indie?! WTF!), it looks like something that came out of one of Clive Barker's books. The combat system is probably one of the best I've seen (beats Oblivion easily) and if that isn't enough, you should pick it up to leer at the babe with the handles on her head who hangs out with your character. :) I picked it up today and played for 3 hours straight.

Edited by: Irida Mershkov on 03/01/2011 01:18:01 Zeno Clash is great, it's an indie gem to be honest. The gameplay is just a string of battles constantly from first person fist fightin' but the gold is within the setting, art and story telling to be truthful, well worth playing.
Also to the dude who bought Machinarium earlier, you're a treasure because that game is fantastic.
