I decided it was time to download the game, fortunately there was a trial which meant I didnt have to actually pay to play.
Despite what you may think, I downloaded WoW to rip the music ONLY, pretty much been a fan of Blizzard's sound department since WC came out.
My curiosity gets the best of me and I log in, I get the usual "OMG ITS YOU!" spam, I look around and I go randomly in general chat "Lol, game is still the same /facepalm", a second later some kid is crying literally begging everyone to report me because of that single comment because ôantispamming is wrongö and ôI like WoW and you are ruining the experienceö at first I thought, this could be a troll and I should be on guard but it turns out it was just a 5 year old kid.
Anyway I lasted about 20 mins, funny how I kept on getting "we knew you would quit eve and come back" despite spam whining and loling.
What I noticed though was the game had once again been dumbed down, like extreme mode now, music as always is great and graphics are good but it was hilarious how blizzard made the game extremely easier than before.
So a friend of mine who I dont even remember whispered me and was talking, he was explaining how 'good' the game was, his idea of cata being good is "you can now get items through arena" (which I thought you could anyway).
Anyway the music was leeched and after spending 5 mins emoting I decided to turn off the game.
'Sometimes change is a bad thing, you can get something bad and make it worse'
Blizzard û Excellent marketing and advertisement, creative team, brilliant sound studio, that is pretty much it.
Cataclysm = 2/10
Oh and the best part is, my friends way of convincing me it was good and that I should stay was ôyou should come back, you can level real quick and get gear fast and get in end game fast!ö, I replied ônahh I prefer to heal with my logistics and tank with my commandsö ;)

I don't quite see how making items available through pvp is equivalent to dumbing down. It's simply that any way of getting items in WoW involves a dumb grind. I doubt that changed.

Well it was the other things I was referring too, the items through PvP has always been there and killed PvP imo, since lets face it PvP went from 'Tourny Style' to 'Grind'
I had my WoW moment for 2010 and 2011, thats all that matters :)

Edited by: Selinate on 26/12/2010 00:50:41 When I log on to games like WoW and post in the public chat, it's usually "God dammit, when did they lift your ban?"
Apparently, telling jokes about their mothers and then declaring that they are living a false life if they think their MMO is difficult in any sense of the meaning is frowned upon in most MMO's....
Along with totally trashing their ****ty support and staff (I swear, for some MMO's, there are a bunch of chimpanzees helping to support the MMO. Actually wait, in the words of another on another MMO "Hey, don't insult chimpanzees like that!").....

I disagree. I'm actually leveling a fresh character in cataclysm. Blizzard really did a good job redoing all the leveling zones, and the plots/quest lines flow beautifully from one zone to the next. Give it another try. (and ignore the endgame, its been a terrible grind-fest since vanilla and always will be)

And well-deserved for some folk, especially for those who swear that their game is so hard, when all the game requires is grinding constantly to become "better"...

Well define good, it's it good because it's photorealistic or is it good because it fit to the game where latter should always take precedence. WOW graphics are stunning for what they are which is exactly like they were in warcrafts 1-3.

I decided to check it out yesterday again, went in AV, UI was screwed, forgot to set talents and I didnt even know where to access mounts.
Despite all that I managed to get top healer @ 80, the strange thing was during this time I had this urge to undock in a logi.
One thing I am happy about is the warlock buff, my pink haired lesbian Gnome is now lethal to rogues ;)
Unfortunately it is still the same crap, there wasnt any pleasure out of killing anyone, there wasnt any sadness over losing anything, the only thing I found funny was creating a /LOL macro and spamming everyone while going up and down.
Ah well cata lasted at a day at least on my comp

I agree. Blizzard have really done an excellent job with Cataclysm, and I think any cynical ex-WOW players should give it another go.

No thanks two years of wow crack was enough for me even if I did enjoy every minute of it until they released TBC which convinced me that it was time to quit and that I had seen all that wow could offer.

Compared to all (yes, I said ALL) fantasy MMO's, they're not that bad at all, actually.

Funny tbh, I hear this everytime Blizzard bring out an expansion, I will admit I never tested out cata for everything but I did test out the things I enjoyed previously and it was truly the same thing.
What was really weird was the 'mass selling', EVERYONE I have spoken to in game said the following (which btw was said for WOLTK & BC too).
"Oh the game is really good, Blizzard did a good job" "Oh you should return you will like it" "It is really fun, you will like it again im sure"
I also hear the same comments from alcoholics and drug abusers too, I strongly feel the only reason people are complimenting WoW is to 'sell' it to themselves, when really there isnt anything different about the game but I guess when someone shares an addiction it is better ôso many people do it, it must be fineö ;)
A major lore char getting nerfed and owned by noobs - check! Alliance and horde drooling over gear - check! Grinding for items only for them to become redundant in the next patch - check! A pvp system limited to grinding - check! Scripted goals - check! Old bosses resurrected in order to get bitter vets to return - check!
Remind me again what changed? Oh right, the graphics and a few changes to the gameplay. I had fun playing on my lock and druid for a few hours, I liked that they had different talents but the game got deleted because of the above points.
But donÆt worry I will definitely check out their next expansion which no doubt will also be ôamazing and better than the one beforeö.

I haven't played WoW in ages, but I was bored earlier tonight, so I went to the forums to see what was going on. Seems like a lot of people are upset because heroic raids are too hard now.

Sounds like they did something right, the only highlight in TBC for me was that heroic 5-man dungeons and raids were actually hard (hard-hitting trash mobs). WotLK heroics were a joke.
(of course they will nerf it soon with so many of their crybaby addicts moaning)
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

To be honest, if I could feasibly play through the game solo (or with just the Wife as backup) and enjoy it, I would have been tempted. Most of the fun I had in that game was just beetling around doing my own thing.
It was the other players that spoiled WoW for me. Perhaps an unusual thing to say about an MMO, but there y'go. I've had nothing but good things to say about the majority of Eve players - even the ones who just warp into range with guns blazing, for the most part.

This. The game needs a new graphics engine so badly, and with all the resources blizz has it could be done easily. As it is now, it is heavily stylized, that is why most don't see how utterly crap it is. The engine is even unable to use your graphics card to its full potential...let me rephrase...it barely uses it. Like the old eve engine it runs heavily on CPU. And that is why they have problems when it comes to big cities and lots of players in the same place.
They should totally redo the graphics. It does not have to be photo-realistic, warcraft was never about that, but they should totaly redo the engine, still keep it stylized, and the game would be ****ing gorgeous. It already has some very nice scenes, with the limited technology their artists are forced to use, if they redid the graphics, it would be ****ing amazing...
