Great Dev Blog and great features!
The Dev Blog shows what are the real benefits from the corification of the EVE server software back-end architecture. I guess the "New Contracts" and the "NEO NEOCOM" are the first "fruits" of the corification effort, visible in the EVE client.
Keep up the good work CCP ___________________________________ BECKS

I don't know if the system would support it, but would it be possible to be able to filter contracts based on their meta level tier? Like say i'm looking for some faction armor hardeners. I choose an option to only show "faction" items, or to exclude anything below faction. One option would limit it to show faction items only, the other would show faction, deadspace, and officer items, but not t1/t2/storyline.
Also the allowance of damaged items is much much love for us amarr pilots <3 for you guys for putting that in.

Good changes. Re private contracts: I don't see why you would want to keep 2 different interfaces around, that just makes no sense. Sounds like code could be optimized to point to the same backend and client code for both types of contracts instead of currently apparently using separate code bases. --

Edited by: Che Biko on 27/12/2010 16:50:42 Yay! Can't wait for this, so I'l surely try it out.
One thing I'd like to see though, is to be able to search for (courier) contracts that are along your autopilot route, so that when I go from A to E via B-C-D I'll get the contracts that need to go from A-E or B-D, etc, and not the ones from/to F-Z. But I'm guessing this is to much server load.
But the current improvements are like the next best thing so I'll be happy anyway.

The improvement I would like to see comes in the form of Notifications.
Currently whenever a contract is made available to the entire corp the icon on the side does not light up for every member in the corp. Also all corp members do not see that there are contracts assigned to the corporation on the contract "Start" screen. Currently only CEOs and Directors get these 2 feature it seems. Can you add a feature that notifies everyone in the corp when there is a contract assigned to the corporation (or alliance) and allow said contracts to appears on the contract "Start" screen much like it does for the corp CEO and Directors?

Not the benefit of corification, but the benefit of refactoring (one of which recent efforts was corification). In this case there are two such refactoring efforts that come into play:
(A) When we overhauled the mail system we introduced a new concept of specialised nodes in the cluster (originally Mail Nodes) that with further fleet fight lag fixes resulted in the Character Nodes. The concept evolved and by now there are EVE Gate Backend Nodes, Planetary Interaction Manager Nodes, Alliance, Corporation and War Service Nodes, Voice Backend Nodes, Market Nodes, Character Nodes, Fleet Finder Nodes, in addition to the Location Nodes that host solar systems. And soon there will Contract Nodes. The basic principle is that these are isolated services that don't depend on your location and that don't need to communicate with one another.
(B) Team Gridlock, which works on fleet fight optimisations, had a need to be able to turn new code on and off on a controlled manner on clients as a part of a staged rollout and as a safety measure to be able to turn off optimisations if fallout occurred. The new "Experimental Features" is using that same mechanism to introduce new features in the same manner.

Thought if I could make one teensy request, it would be that the contract creation window would linkify the name of the character/corp/alliance you're making a private contract to at some point during creation. That way if you're making a private contract to someone you haven't made one to before, you don't have to wait til the contract is up to get a link to check you did indeed spell the name right. ;)

You are apparently continuing Incursion's theme of "Who are you, and what have you done with the real CCP?". Lag fixes, UI improvements, and ridding us of Eve's insanely annoying little quirks all at once? At the same time as you give me like ten million free SP? It's like these patches were coded by Santa Claus. Keep up the good work, please.
That said, one minor complaint. Why do charges in guns need to be unloaded at all? To cargo is vastly better than to hangar(though I have to ask about the interaction with cargo size limits - does it overfill the cargo or overflow it?), but I don't see why it needs to happen at all.

If the cargo becomes overloaded with the addition of the charges then you cannot create the contract.
The reason for the 'remove charges' restriction in contracts is of a technical nature since these types of loaded charges are not proper inventory items due to an optimization they cannot be properly included in the contract without first removing them.

Sounds like code could be optimized to point to the same backend and client code for both types of contracts instead of currently apparently using separate code bases.
That is a good observation, but when looking at the usage patterns we found that treating the two types of contract availabilities separate gives us a lot of benefit.
The public and private contracts are two very different beasts with different needs and optimization opportunities. For example, most public contract searches are made from a single place, Jita. In contracts, private contract searches are made throughout the cosmos. Public contract searches are most often made on a particular category, group or type, whereas private searches are almost exclusively done on 'show me all the contracts for me/corp/alliance' basis. From the metrics gathered from TQ it seems like the advanced search capabilities of the new search would hardly be used at all for private contracts.
So these are very different usecases. I don't think people would appreciate having to search for private courier contracts and private item exchange/auction separately as an example, which is something that is a pretty big part of the public contracts search.
There are more private contracts than public ones, but within each search 'realm' (particular alliance, person, corp) there are only a handful of outstanding contracts at any one time. In almost all cases all your contracts will fit on a single 100 entry page. Just using the new search for public contracts allowed us to take some important short-cuts and use resource quotas we could not have otherwise.
We will probably give the old interface a little make-over when it's transitioned to a 'private contracts' tab. We'll bring over what we can from the public contracts search.
Maybe we're wrong and maybe the new search is very useful for private contracts. Let us know! :

We don't particularly care for features that push updates to potentially thousands of clients at once. I'm afraid that for now at least people will need to look this up themselves instead of getting it pushed to them.
Showing contracts assigned to your corp or alliance on the contracts start page for every corp member might be feasible though. Let me ask around.

You know, you could have saved yourself a whole crapton of work by just making a Contracts API.
Have any of you thought about creating a 'reverse courier contract' or postal service contract. You say where you want to go from (system/ pick up range) and where you want to go to and what price you charge (and volume you can carry/collateral you offer, etc.) and then people can use your service to send stuff. Of course the contract should be able to be used multiple times, with certain expiration conditions. Also the game should be able to automagically link two different services so you can use one service to get your stuff from A to B and another to get it from B to C and make that transparent to the user.

Comments like this make me think you don't really play EVE, or at the very least have never attempted to fit a 10/10 tanking ship or pimp solo ship. Currently, if I want to find a good deal on a deadspace EM hardener, I have to type the following into the contract search window:

CCP Grayscale was mentioning something about this to me the other day. I think Game Design is contemplating the issue.
This is great news. You could, on the other hand, just allow rigged ships to be placed in the cargo bay of a freighter. It's something that can already be done, but involves jumping through hoops to do it. ------------------------------------

Originally by: Herschel Yamamoto That said, one minor complaint.
</3
Can there be some sort of workaround for this? Perhaps a "This will make the cargo too full, would you like to unload to hangar instead?" box? Because there will be some situations where the new system will actually be more annoying than the old. Alternately, just check whether the cargo's over-full before the charges are pulled out and not after - it'll just force the buyer to reload the guns or ditch some cargo before they can undock, which is acceptable IMO.

Like say i'm looking for some faction armor hardeners. I choose an option to only show "faction" items, or to exclude anything below faction. One option would limit it to show faction items only, the other would show faction, deadspace, and officer items, but not t1/t2/storyline.
It seems pretty specific but if there is enough support for it, we might be able to add this sort of search criteria.

No, you have to type "Type Armor EM" into the search window. Doesn't work now, but will after the changes. You missed the line in the dev blog where you can search for everything matching the string at once.
That said, I'd totally be down for a Meta Level >= and a Meta Level <= entry box, just so that I can search faction, deadspace, and officer all at once.

Using contracts for this is more complicated than we need for that specific functionality - ideally we should be able to right click on assembled ships and 'Wrap For Shipping' to get an instant wrapped version.
Or simply allow assembled ships to fit in cargo.... Vote Illectro for CSM5! Supporting the New Generation of Eve Players |

Ideally, ORE would give us a better alternative in the form of a transport vessel of capital proportions that shares the ability to enter highsec with jump freighters. It would also give CCP a reason to revisit carriers as the majority of them are glorified transports(or ravens) as it is, albeit gimped in the amount of ships they can haul around. Plz gief 5Mm3 SMA space ORE supertransport! Hopefully with enough tank to make suiciding it ill-advised.

With the new contract system, you'll have the option to search for any item matching a string, so if you enter "type Armor EM Hardener", you will get results for any X-, A-, B- and C-Type EM Hardener.
It would be nice if there was an option to limit the meta level (or limit to Meta0-5, storyline only, faction only, deadspace only, officer only), so that if you're searching for say a cheap faction explosive hardener, you'll be able to see all the faction hardeners of that type, without having the search cluttered up with deadspace, T1, named, etc modules.
But all in all, some excellent changes. Being able to copy-paste contracts is awesome, Right Click > Find in Contracts is a god send, and the new search changes should be great.

Two very simple adjustments, that could bring existing search to the usable state and resuce contract scam: 1. Put an extra field in serach options - "Offer/Demand", that would tremendously help in filtering idiots off the picture. 2. In contract view, group offers and demands together each. I.e.

We don't particularly care for features that push updates to potentially thousands of clients at once. I'm afraid that for now at least people will need to look this up themselves instead of getting it pushed to them.
Showing contracts assigned to your corp or alliance on the contracts start page for every corp member might be feasible though. Let me ask around.
Can you not just make a menu where a director can make a push list manually, where the director can add and delete members involved in the corporation / alliance contracts handling? That way the load should be handled easily, not?

And Selling contracts that are several time more expensive then the cheapest Selling contract. Of course it is only possible for 1 item contracts, but this feature would be pretty useful if u need to filter out all that useless junk... (Though this feature probably will be useless for blueprint copies)
And also it would be nice to be able to search for only Blueprint copies or only Blueprint originals. One nice feature of the old loan contracts was that if the corp loaned out a corp insured ship, it could be loaned to anyone in the alliance, and the loaning corp would still collect insurance. Any possibility of a replacement for this functionality in the new system?
Also is there any chance of adding some constraints on how contracts might be able to be accepted when creating the contracts? For instance, it would be nice to be able to post 10 battleship contracts for corp members, but only allow someone to claim N of them within a certain time period. The only current alternatives are to contract them to individuals, or accept that anyone in the corp with any access level or roles could claim them all.
How about being able to contract to a "mailing list" of people so that at least you could create a subset of "trusted" people who could claim the contract? That way you could make some available to pilots with frigate clearance, another group with cruiser clearance, etc

Originally by: Catari Taga Good changes. Re private contracts: I don't see why you would want to keep 2 different interfaces around, that just makes no sense. Sounds like code could be optimized to point to the same backend and client code for both types of contracts instead of currently apparently using separate code bases.
Hi,
All looks good, but I really think that there should only be 1 'type' of contract search.
It should be a standard interface for contracts, not 2 different types. Thats just bad UI design.
We have enough different types of UI design in Eve over all the areas and windows, please don't increase the count :(
Whatever 'optimisations' you need to do depending on the 'type' should be irrelevant to the user and done in the background.
Rob.

Originally by: Hawk TT Great Dev Blog and great features!
The Dev Blog shows what are the real benefits from the corification of the EVE server software back-end architecture. I guess the "New Contracts" and the "NEO NEOCOM" are the first "fruits" of the corification effort, visible in the EVE client.
Keep up the good work CCP
And soon there will be Contract Nodes.
No, we don't use the Windows HPC Server to manage the roles, we do that in our own cluster framework (ZCluster is the low-level framework and Mr. Cluster is the top-level management) on top of SQL Server and Windows Server Core.

"Uh, oh. It's only for public contracts
The new contracts search does not search through private contracts, only the public ones. The reason for this is that there aren't that many contracts assigned to each alliance, corporation or character so all the features of the new search aren't as important for these private contracts. Since the searchable contracts cache does cost quite a bit of server resources and the number of private contracts overall is pretty great we have opted for using the old contracts search for these types of contracts. If you would like to extend the new contracts search to cover the private contracts as well please let us know since we haven't seen the reason to do so."

Can we get a preview of the contracts API to provide feedback?

What about contracting drugs (and other illicit goods)? It's a bit odd that I can buy them on the open market but not from non-courier-exploitation contracts, and it's getting to be a bit of a pain to manage ships when literally every ship I own has boosters ;)

One of the features I thought of while I was reading this blog is the ability to search for contracts with multiple items.
Since contracts are capapble of containing multiple items it would be nice to search for a ship, and then for another item as well, say a particular rig, to limit the contracts to ones rigged the way you like. This would be a huge benefit. |

It will be shown in the contract details window if you traverse a security boundary.

We'll look into that. Maybe add it to a tooltip.

Can you make the 'Info by Issuer' show up in the results list in the second line under the orange contract link?
I'm afraid that is a bit tricky since the infamous 'info by issuer' has been used extensively by imaginative scammers.

Also, as has been mentioned.. include an option to drop the charges into the hangar if it would overflow the cargo.. not that we can't create contracts for those cases then.
Will do.

Let me jump on the Red Frog bandwagon as well. We are close to 40,000 courier contracts this year alone and if the trend continues, we'll have that many or more next year. We've worked very hard and very long at a task few capsuleers are willing to do. Many of us are hardcore haulers (and very, very sick people) who do almost nothing else in EVE. Most game improvements, expansions, etc. have little effect on improving OUR gameplay. This one feature could be the best thing to ever happen to us besides the increase in courier contract volume. That's two improvements in the entire history of the game that are of any real value to professional haulers.
Please, I'm begging you, extend this to private courier contracts.

edit: Here's Locin's original Assembly Hall thread that sparked the CSM vote to approve contract changes and (perhaps) led to this change. It would be a damn shame if we couldn't actually use the thing we wanted so badly.
edit 2: and, Mr. Atlas, YOU voted for it!!
Indeed, Mr. WeEda's post was the catalyst for many of the changes. I just didn't realize he was referring to private contracts
This is definitely something we will consider and the exact feedback I was after since we are after all trying to give this profession a boost with these improvements and your corporation is at the forefront of this playstyle.

Exactly!
Same goes for the LP shop, there it's even worse tbh
I mean, you can't blame me really for this wish.. the 'Market', 'My Contracts' or the 'Wallet' have this 'feature': one view, see it all, no fluff.. very convenient and fast. I don't need to have so much empty space shown just because of some icons I've seen a thousand times already (and for most contract searches they all look the same too!) and on the right a tiny scroll-handle or need the mouse to scroll on a slow pace.
As for the info by issuer.. was just thinking of something useful to put into that empty space (some people don't lie and actually use it to add usefull information there, like ML/PL/runs of BPCs). If you can implement a sleek list without icons I wouldn't even dream of that any more Nevertheless, I wouldn't had thought you would bring the 'scam protection' as reason not to make this.. doesn't fit EvE tbh. Tell me something about database queries and fields not in the result lists of a search. I would have bought that, but the 'scam protection' is lame

Corp-insured ships should now never have their insurance voided when they are contracted so you can use Item Exchange contracts for this.
I have a serious question, can you still void the corp insurance once the ship is loaned out by re-insuring the ship privatively? I noticed this loophole back in 2008, wondering if you guys fixed it yet?
I find your lack of a response disturbing. I assume that either you don't know and/or the subject falls outside your jurisdiction.
Would you please forward the question on to someone that does know and/or can answer? since you guys at CCP took away the loan contracts from me and I would like to know if I can still provide a similar service to corp/alliance members with minimal risk.
Thanks!

You can re-insure any ship in your posession and that is by design. Not sure about the relevance of loan vs item exchange in this regard.

I think he is talking about corp owned ships and the fact that if someone jumps in a ship in wh space for instance the last person in that ship gets the insurance. He wants to lock the insurance so that if it is corp owned the isk always go back in the corp wallet if it gets destroyed. I have never done corp insured ships so do not know how the current process works.

Please consider increasing the expiration time from 2 weeks to something much longer for private contracts. We use private contracts (corporation scoped) to post item exchange contracts for ships as part of our corp ship program. We have hundreds of ships on contract and it is a royal pain in the butt to constantly repost them every two weeks. I really dislike logging in to pew-pew only to find 50 to 100 contracts have expired and then spending the next 60 minutes reposting those contracts.

While you're still in the jot down mode, I'd like to tack on a few more things :
- When putting up a personal contract (as opposed to corporate contract), I would like an option to re-direct the contract's costs & proceeds to a selected corp wallet division - mirorring pretty much the mechanics behind the market buy/sell orders. Corporate contracts require corp hangar which isn't always available or not cost effective to maintain (for ad-hoc contracting which doesn't require a large/overkill number of contracts).
Since I prefer to maintain separate wallet divisions for different purposes, the above process becomes very painful when you have to manually track and transfer the correct isk amount (from personal wallet to corp wallet) to keep things in order.
- Consider creating a new category of contract, tentatively called Player Donation. This is to facilitate the ease of use when transfering/giving items between characters by completely removing the isk field anywhere in the contract. To prevent (the current trade item) scam abuse, it should only go one-way only -> creator to beneficiary.
Yes, it's a duplicate of 0 isk contracts, but the the important reasoning here is to simplify the UI choices rather than have players wade through the normal choices for simple trade between alts or friends. That may be enough of a carrot to encourage ubiqitous usage. The 10K isk minimum fee can also be reduced to a token 1 isk as further incentive, which of course will still stop any negative wallet players.
- From an interface standpoint, if you can reduce the number of pages that the player needs to go through in creating a contract to 2 or even 1 page (!!), I'd consider that a step into innovation.
- I'm not sure if this has already been covered in any previous feedbacks or whether its in the pipeline. Auction. It's a clickfest since sniper timing is hidden. Have the server semi-automate all biddings by the default bid amount - up to the maximum specified by the bidder.
While if may not completely eliminate manual clickings, in most scenarios, the player won't have to screw around clicking mindlessly, playing the patience game ala 0.01 isk market trading. The sad fact, it'll get to the SAME conclusion in the end anyway - highest bidder wins. Let the server do all the default bid amount instead and you can potentially save bandwidth/DB treshing.
- The ability to re-list/renew an expired contract. It's simple feature. Sometimes things don't get sold/picked up when the contract timer expires. Rather than deleting the contract, requiring the player to start everything all over gain, have an option to put the contract in edit mode for re-listing. There should be a one-click express button for re-listing, if player doesn't want to make any updated changes to the expired contract.
- Another reminder for the "Simple View" option. It needs to be there.

Maybe we're wrong and maybe the new search is very useful for private contracts. Let us know! :
I'll state it: you are wrong, at least we in RF desperately needs these improvements for our private contracts.
To be precise, the following features of the new contract search would be welcome for private contracts:
1. be able to see the oldest contracts at the first page (we freqently have more than 100 contracts outstanding), and the oldest contracts gets pushed to page 2 (or page 3 when we are really busy) when we sort on time left for instance.
2. Be able to see whether the courier contract goes through high sec, low sec or null-sec would be very useful. Although we specify that all our contracts should be high sec, we still have to type in the route in our trip calculator to verify that the route is indeed high sec. Being able to filter on these would make it easier for our pilots and contract managers.
3. Filter on volume. We have the max volume our customers can use set at 860k m3. With the volume filter, all volumes less than 860k could be displayed to our pilots, while our contract managers easily could find contracts to reject by looking for contracts issued with more than 860k m3.
4. The filter on reward is not particulary useful for RF in our current mode of operation, but I can visualize contract managers using it to spot contracts with too much payment (like a zero too much on the reward)
5. I personally would not mind searching private courier contracts and exchange/auction contracts separately, if it meant a better user inteface on both.
6. In addition to outstanding contracts, you should really make it possible to export data from finished contracts in some way, either via an api, or by an export button (allow for selection of multiple contracts, please).
By adding these tools to the private contracts tab, you will empover many more corporations to deal with courier contracts on a daily basis, and allow courier companies to have a proper queue for their customers.

That is probably not going to happen within the client, at least in the foreseeable future but with the Contracts API that's on our roadmap it will make things much easier for the conglomerate contractors out there.
If introducing the full search functionality for completed contracts is out, would it at least be possible to get an option for the completed contracts to be full-sorted based on completion date rather than the current sorting in order of creation?
This would greatly assist people tracking their completed contracts through the UI - currently you have to page back through 14 days worth of contracts to be sure you have caught any newly-completed contracts. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Hey Atlas, did you guys consider making the Contract node a distributed document database like MongoDB? Seems like contracts are the perfect use case and it has proven scalability and performance.
Other than that, I look forward to seeing how this turns out. My profit margins were hurt pretty bad by the introduction of faction ships to the market, but I still like it.

Differentiation between BPO and BPC in other locations, such as your hangar, is on our backlog for the next release. The deployment of the 64-bit Inventory allows us to work on this feature.
"The preceding statements are forward-looking and do not constitute a promise of a delivery of said feature at a certain date."
As it stands on Tranquility, it isn't possible to create a want-to-buy contract for blueprint copies; the item list only allows 0-ME/0-PE blueprint originals to be requested. ('All blueprints are originals' also applies to killmails, which can cause some interesting statistics)

Aging contract system... pffff What about the bookmark system. Now that is AGING!! The UI is hopeless for managing bm's and you even removed the option to right click and when to bookmark when in system map. Bookmarks really needs a rethink/refactoring/redoing/redesign. That is on my 2011 wishlist!
Originally by: Eranziel Nice improvements, looking forward to it. :)
Thought if I could make one teensy request, it would be that the contract creation window would linkify the name of the character/corp/alliance you're making a private contract to at some point during creation. That way if you're making a private contract to someone you haven't made one to before, you don't have to wait til the contract is up to get a link to check you did indeed spell the name right. ;)
I agree completely!! This is by far the most error prone feature/UI problem of the existing interface. I have always missed this option to review the recipient before finalizing the contract. Please do this CCP.

As it is a technical issue you are sidestepping why risk punish players for it with pain in the ass cant contract this ship problems.
Check for cargohold overloading before removing charges to the cargohold or more simply dont worry about it at all.
The contract has to be redeemed at a station before the ship is flyable again at which point the launch check will prevent overloaded ships in space.

A new iteration is up on sisi now and we've added a few features based on feedback on this thread.
- The new search now covers private contracts as well as public ones.
- All the members in a corporation will see information about contracts assigned to the corporation on the contracts start page.
- The top-level item limit in contracts has been increased from 100 to 200.
- The ignore list maximum length has been increased from 80 to 1000.
- Charges from weapons that cannot be placed in the ship's cargo hold are now placed in the hangar.
- Added some l33t filtering options in the TYPES search box for the foolishly brave among you.
- XXX:typeName where XXX is the name of a group or a category. Example: Ship:Raven. This is a quick way to do the same filtering as you get with the category/group dropdown boxes.
- typeName|YYY where YYY is the name of a meta or a tech level. Example: Hardener|Faction
- ·berl33t example: module:hardener|faction will search for faction hardeners and only in the module category (skip blueprints)
- Added a super secret prefs flag for 'thin contracts list'. Add the line contractsSimpleView=1 to your prefs.ini file at your own peril.
- The UI has been further tweaked.

I was just checking the new corporate contract search out, CCP Atlas, and I was blown away. This is exactly what I would like to see for the corporate courier contracts. I will need some time to play with it, and see if I can find any bugs or missing features, but my first impression was very good. Red Frog Freight Service -

Some suggestions regarding the courier contract interface for corporations.
When right clicking on a corporate courier contract, make it possible to choose what sort of related contracts you are looking for. When I look for a related contract (e.g. same issuer), I would expect to get a list of all other corporate courier contracts issued by that issuer, not what he has issued as public exchange/auction contracts (I would expect that if I was on searching for exchange/auction contracts though.
Same when I look for related contracts to/from the same solar system/constellation/region, I would expect to get a list of related corporate courier contracts up.
Now, a nice idea would of course be if it was possible to choose if you wanted to see related public, private, corporate or alliance contracts somehow, but the standard choice should be the type of contract you are currently looking at, in my opinion (for us in RF Freight, it would be primarily corporate contracts, but being able to switch to see nearby public contracts would not hurt).

Is it only the search-interface that is going to change, or am I allowed to throw in some changes I would like for the My contracts tab as well.
Contracts in progress have irritated me for a long time, as you have to ask the client who took a particular contract. It is impossible for the CEO or a director to see who has taken a given courier contract set up to corp, until the contract has been failed or completed. I don't know what the idea behind this was, but I'd like to see who has accepted a contract in progress, without having to ask the client which of my pilots accepted it. If there are some negative aspects to the whole corp having access to this information (I can't see it, but there may be some that are concerned about this), tie the information to the contract manager role, so that everyone that are contract managers at least can see who has accepted a courier contract issued to the corp.
As for the beta search interface: We can limit the view to courier contracts starting within a certain number of jumps from our current location, and by the max trip length. Is it possible to add a minimum trip length too?
Sometimes you are looking for contracts that are longer than a certain number of jumps too, not just shorter than a certain number of jumps.
Not sure if others have suggested this already, but with the amount of search possibilities that now exists, would it be possible to save and load common filter-settings, maybe even set up for the corp (like corp fittings), or at least export/import (like overview settings).
This way a corp could set up filters that match various services they provide (high sec, low sec, null-sec, industrial couriers, transport ship couriers, small volume-high value transport, freighter couriers etc).
Contract managers could set up filters that allows them to easier spot contracts that needs to be rejected.

Also chiming in with the "Can't wait to see an API as well" crowd, and "Uh, oh. It's only for public contracts", personally I'd like to see this for private contracts as well, just because it's so much shinier and new than the current interface =D

"UN-ignore contract from issuer" option is missing? It's nowhere to be seen and the ignore contract from issuer seems to be persistent data.
Now, show all (aka no filters) will list all of them regardless. "Exclude ignored issuers" filter hide them as it should be.
Here's the problem, since you can't view those hidden ones (as per my previous post), it's impossible a huge pain in the ass to find out whom you've ignored - to retract the issuer from your ignore list.

Thanks, it's one of those things which I knew there was a catch somewhere (it was quite a while ago when I messed with the ignore list on TQ) but couldn't for the life pin it down to where or what. Lo and behold! Ooops .. first tab. Fair enough
In retrospect, I think it's a very good example of how convoluted the contract interface is. I'd say, the intuitive thing would have to have that link present in the same contract search because if you can "ignore", by that token you should be able to retract it on the same page .... instead of another tab. |

Something else I would suggest is the option to set visibility of completed, and possibly in-progress, private (pilot-to-pilot) contracts. Designated contracts should show in contract history, possibly under a separate entry in the Contract Type pulldown. Visibility options should be private (default), public, alliance, corp, and superiors only (directors, CEO, and alliance executors).
Examples of where this would be useful include verifying that pilots have handed loot over to people who lost ships, or that someone who claimed to be holding a contest delivered the prize.
Note: by 'completed', I mean that it would display after the contract has finished. However, allowing already-finished contracts to be made visible might be desirable.

Does that mean we can do Ship:Myrmidon, Rig:Energy Grid to search for two items in the same contract? (This was my earlier suggestion, and I am guessing my example would find all contracts containing at least 1 myrmidon and at least 1 energy grid rig of any tech level.)
Would this use a comma or semicolon, or is it not implemented? Also, where would we find the syntax for this, other than in your post? Can we have a small blurb on the eve wiki or something?

Hi CCP Fallout
Is it possible to delete the "warning" you get when contracting cargo containers that have an item or more in it? The warning is so very annoying, especially when you want to contract 100 giant secure containers via a courier or any other form of contract. Or at least if we could have the option to not have the warning be repeated again. That would be such a great feature :). Tks for your time.

I am still interested in knowing why the experimental contract search did not make it to TQ in Incursions 1.1. Did the servers melt? A critical bug?
When is it scheduled for release on TQ now or has it been scrapped? It is no longer on Sisi, so we can't search for bugs.

There is no way to change the width of the option panel on the left. A draggable splitter between search options panel and the results part of the window would be very nice.

Edited by: Ellie McAmber on 27/01/2011 16:21:02 Here is my feedback after I tried it and clicked everywhere.
Nice-looking UI, except the "SEARCH" button is located somewhere... down there, and is not really EVE-like. Great ability to search by partial type names.
Now, to the actual problems.
WHY, why was the ability to search the contracts by description taken away??? Contracts were searchable by description from the very beginning.
Because many people search by description now, properly worded descriptions are a very effective marketing tactic (for example, description for a Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amp sale might say, "same as Caldari Navy Shield Boost Amplifier). Personally, I add the name of the ships the item is useful for to the description ("Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster CNR Hulk Tengu").
This is useful for my customers, and is useful for me, because it allows me to outcompete other sellers while selling at the same (or even slightly higher) price.
What's even worse is that the dreaded "[Multiple Items]" contracts are still showing up in search as just that, "[Multiple Items]". It has always been a hassle to sell rigged ships because the buyers don't see the icon of the rigged ship. At least, with properly worded description, I could easily sell a rigged Navy Raven ("Raven Navy Issue CCC I x3 CNR CCC"). Believe it or not, many people try searches for CNR CCC, and buy my Ravens. Now, they have to search for a Raven Navy, they will get a list of a bunch of "[Multiple Items]", and will have to cllick/mouseover all of them to find mine.
I see absolutely no legitimate reason why this particular game mechanics should be removed, given that it has been useful and, most importantly, FUN. Now contract traders will have to "compete" on price alone.
I doubt the "beta" will be changed before actual release, of course. But if someone of the devs is reading it, please reconsider. The old duo of description and type search fields added more dimensions to contract trading, and was a BETTER solution.

+1 for search button, something is wrong about it.
Also the UI really miss an option somewhere to filter out copies. Since contracts are the only way to trade researched blueprints, it would be nice to not have to brwose through hundreds of copies each time.
Courrier contract interface seem very nice, the reward/collateral/volume filters will certainly help a lot. But it might be nice to also add a "high sec only" checkbox.

First of all its a very good Idea and a good start of makeing Contracts!
But the search options still missing some essential stuff.
Item Type : (T1|T2|Faction|Deadspace|Officer) Since the Contracts are mainly used to find Stuff wich issnt accsessable on the market, this is very important! Blueprints as a main categoryBP(Coppy|Original) or Item Since an another BIG part of contracts are Blueprints, BPCs and teched BPOs it is very important to have a good search for Blueprints. You should have a option to choose: Blueprints(Coppy) + Faction + Ships =Showing all factionship BPC's (in this case maybe the Database need a change ... i assume Blueprints doesnt have their Product they make as an searchable Attribute. If you are really changing Blueprint Database attributes, you can also add Runs, ME, PE as searchable attribute for the future --- to make it possible to set up buy orders for specific BPCs!
Market-Searchtree Why not use the ketegorys of the market also for Contract search ? I want to see all large energy Rig BPCs -> Just choose BP(Coppy) Ship mod+Rigs+energy Rig
If you want me to work the total concept out with Searchtrees + SQL Database requests just send me an ingame message and i do that ... i have a lot of free time atm and some experience in that.

Like Ellie mentioned, yes... descriptions are very useful when you have to sell (or buy) specific groups of items. For example, finding capital construction BPC packs is much easier by searching by description. Now, I know that some players like to use the description field for scamming purposes, but that's not the reason for removing it.
Concerning "Search" button and its look, I look at it as "EVE interface 2.0" and have nothing against it. In fact, I would love to see a complete interface look redesign with the new style - nice, big buttons with bigger fonts (even if it's optional). Monitor sizes and screen resolutions got much bigger than they were 4-5 years ago and in some cases, the interface is just too small.

Edited by: Dr Qui on 27/01/2011 20:27:39 this is a change you made that is less helpfull - for WTB contract, and some of us do alot of them, it used to be that when you looked at an expired one you could copy and paste the name of the item the contract was for. You can no longer do that which means you have to re-enter thename manually which is a real pain when you doing 19 of them and all officer (Thon's Modified Large Graviton Smartbomb) try doing that for 19 different items in Jita with lag with no mistakes; it's awesome
That function is still there in the normal sell contract the "buyer will get" and the item is listed and you can copy and paste the name - please put that back in the WTB so we can copy and past the text for the name of the item

The new interface has some improvements, but I really hope you do not eliminate the old contract options in favor of the new stuff, as the new stuff lacks in plenty of ways compared to how I make use of the old options possible.
You should put your focus on usability, not visual fancyness. There's hardcore contract traders who like raw data and filtering options and fast UI response -- there's casual buyers who want to click some fancy icons. Hardcore traders are the ones feeding the contract market. Scare them away and there's not much left for the buyers to buy. Focus on what hardcore contract traders want, not what some random graphics dude at CCP (yes, this might include management) is assuming to be best for the player base.
Usability is all about getting raw data filtered and presented in the best possible way (as in creating the least hassle). Don't get yourself fooled by wanting to make trade systems more pretty. That's wrong. Make them more useful. Be careful with using colors and graphical bloat.
So let's compare a screenshot of of the old way I'm using the contract system with the new beta:
Old simple view:
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/5664/ishot349.png
Beta Search:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1200/ishot348.png
First change to notice is the option menu on the left window side instead of some top window area. The "Search"button went to bottom left corner from former top right "Get contracts"button corner.
GUI design has to recognize there are left handed AND right handed people. GUI design has to recognize that it's easier to move a mouse (& thereby mousepointer) sideways rather than up and down.
Required mouse movement in the old system was quite horizontal.. adjust options to the left, click search to the right, change sort order by clicking within a row right below the top options window... here and there open up a contract to get the contract details...
Compare it to the new Beta: You need to move the mouse pointer to the top left window corner to choose from Buy/sell vs. courier. You have to move the pointer to left middle side to select detailed options. You have to move the mouse pointer further down to press "search" button. You have to move on to the right window side to make use of the vertical window scrollbar. You have to move your mouse pointer to the bottom right corner to select contract pages. You have to move your cursor up to some top row to invert list column sort order. You are required to move your mousepointer ALL ACROSS the whole Search Beta window the whole time you're trying to refine your search.
The main button "search" (which you're probably going to have to press more than once during your EVE lifetime as the data doesn't get autoloaded due to technical real world limitations) being located in the bottom left corner is some indication to me a left-handed person at CCP was responsible. There's a reason most window frame controls are located at top right corner, not at bottom left corner!
So mousemovement-wise the Search Beta Window is not really designed well at all. It just looks to be thrown together, as it lacks basic requirements for excellent usability: Minimizing mouse trail travel distance for task to be done repeatedly during normal use. Like refining search options, searching and browsing thru the results.
Two suggestion:
1. Make it optional whether to have the "options & search button" control column panel on the left or right window side so each user can choose his preference, left and right handed people alike.
2. It'd be nice if one could revert column sort order from within a (not yet existing) bottom row "column sort order control bar" in addition to the existing top one, too.
...more to come after the break...

On the old system we could highlight a line then scroll the contracts down and easily find the place we left off looking. Now I have to try to remember every contract I leave off at to scroll the page down. It's really only a problem with the multiple items section, but it is such a pain in the arse.

Nice for couriers. Especially like the color indicator of system security as it saves research time with unfamiliar system names. Also distance to pickup point and route length is a thing of beauty. How about adding an abbreviation or some coding for the destination region when it is not in the same as the pickup region.

Two things: 1. I have a petition that hasn't been touched for 4 days regarding a particular contract. I hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle of moving to this new system. 2. It would be nice to be able to right-click the station (pick up / drop off) and have the standard menu items: set destination, bookmark location, etc. It makes it much easier to determine if the route goes through high-sec, low-sec, null-sec.

Edited by: Keira Trefenwyd on 28/01/2011 02:55:41 Nice addition guys, but you are missing some of the basic things we take for granted. 1. It would be nice if the function that allowed you to pull up specific items based on a fuzzy search was still included.
2. The ability to see the auctions in simple view. Otherwise it is just pretty pictures and a lot of wasted time.
3. Having a column that actually lists what type of auction it is, instead of having to mouse over each one seperately.
I'm hoping this is a very rough draft, otherwise i say it's FAIL! http://www.killboard.net/sigs/Keira Trefenwyd/ht_34/sig.gif |

While the interface is very nice, I notice one thing that will bother me greatly: prices are no longer directly below item names.
With the old contract system, the most important information to me (item type and price) are listed together. I am able to scan straight down a list of contracts and gather all of the information I need without moving my eyes to the side.
With the new system, my eyes have to zig-zag in order to read the same information listed above. This makes it a lot harder for me to quickly absorb information and will be an annoyance to my style of trading. In fact, even with all of the nice features that the new system provides, I'd still rather use the old system because it makes the information I need more accessible.
CCP, please consider introducing a 'Legacy' view mode for the new contract system or at least let us customize/remove columns that we don't care about. Thanks! ----------------------

There is a bug when ordering the auctions by Price/Ascending. It takes into consideration the "starting bid" number, instead of the "current bid" number.

Confirming this cache bug. The new search system won't update with the server at every "search" button press. The cooldown looks to be about two minutes. Considering the old system was immediate at showing updated orders, this is bad and kills a faucet of the contract system (speed contract bargains).

- Availability should always be visible if there are items on alliance/corp contracts. For me (and probably a lot of other 0.0 dwellers) most "public" contracts are alliance-only. - Contracts with multiple items should give some hint on the contents. Something like which market category the items fit in (or the name of the item, if there is only one item in that category in the contract). E.g. a fitted Maelstrom would show up as [Multiple Items] (Maelstrom, Ship Equipment, Shield Rigs), slave set as [Multiple Items] (Implants)

First and foremost why the hell are you using this necro thread for feedback (as if I have to ask). Apart from that in the old search I can turn on "simple view" under "sort by" and get a far more useful display that doesn't have to load up a bunch of icons that I don't care about. Please add this feature to the new search, preferably somewhere more intelligent than in the "sort by" options.
A question, the blog mentioned a contract copying mechanism. Is this not implemented yet or am I just not finding it?
Overall this looks decent.

Not liking the new beta contract system. As one guy said earlier in the thread you want simple information presented, no need to pretty it up! Also the new contract system has a delay on global searches, you click search for contracts from all regions and takes about 20-30 seconds to refresh with new contracts? The old system was more responsive! It shows you contracts as they are posted in every region. Why fix the old system when it wasn't broken in the first place?

Edited by: Andreii on 28/01/2011 13:08:29 Lets give an example:
Old system:
Click get contracts from all regions sorted by when they were issued. Get a 'to the second' report of the global contracts. Click get contracts again get a new list of contracts.
New system:
Click search get a list of all contracts from all regions. Click search again to see new contracts and they don't appear? Click on get contracts from the old system and there are about 5 new contracts issued. Click on search on the beta system and it hasn't updated with the new contracts issued in the last minute or so? Is this intended to put less stress on the contract system? It's as if you get a set of global contracts sent to the client which is only updated once every 30 seconds to a minute! I want up to date contract searches that refresh as they are created, don't need delay! What's the deal with this ccp?

The new search gives much much more options for contractors.. and thats avesome but i found few mising things.
1. How to search only auctions? I was using it a lot in old system and its impossible to do that now. (mayby add another l33t option for that) 2. Could you please fix grid in '[Want to Buy]' windows.. You should be able to rigth click on items there and have usual menu with 'Show Info, View markets details, Find in contratcs' etc.. as in sell window grid.. 3. Wildcards... that would be awesome.. 4. More l33t options like multi search like 'Raven,Capacitor Control Circuit' 5. Sorting by price (in hidden simple view, im not sure how its working in normal one) is sorting auctions by starting bid not actual prices (It show correct price) 6. Sorting orders and all other settings are not saved 7. In simple wiev its impossible to see difference between auction and Item Exchange

- export + save a search query as a link - ability to define a search query including "AND" for several items / item names (e.g. 2 items having the same attributes, but search by name does not work well, say you want contracts for centus and corpus large reppers but not core reppers) - if you have a single item in contract list shown, add "create/setup contract" to the context menu for that contract, so could e.g. set up a buy contract easily - make drag and drop work to add "requested items from buyer" (drop a contract there / drop items there), so no more need to type |

Ok, so far looks good and I'm loving it, here's a few things I've noticed that I think aren't working as intended:
*When Listing by price WTB orders with highest pay are listed on the bottom, thats probably because of the negative sign
*When you type in the item type, the list for selecting exactly which item you meant comes up when you hit the search button, not when you switch focus from the field in the old contracts.
I thought there was also a bug with the price filter but then I realized it's in Millions, so ooops, my bad :)

I like the general layout. its easily navacable.
It would nice to have a quantity column for ex:[Want to Buy/sell] x1, x2, or x3 so its eaiser to find adaquate quantities rather than having sift through 20 contracts to find one asking for or selling more than one primarly in PLEX, but would be good for just about everything being contracted.
it would also be nice to be able sort a primary column and a secondary column. So you can set primary as Name and group all similar items togather then sort by price to get high to low on different items, maybe even be able to search a group of items, like shields rather than just a specific shield by name.

And the rant continues... COLUMN arrangement.
Old view was arranged like this:
STUFF TYPE ISSUER TIME PRICE LOCATION
This was quite friendly to the eyes: You can visually parse it easily from the sides inwards: Start left ..read STUFF ... jump to end of line .... then parse LOCATION & PRICE backwards. Taking the outer borders as "visual fixpoints" your eyes have to "travel inwards" 1 column at maximum to get a grasp of the most important stuff easily.
The Search Beta columns are arranged different:
STUFF LOCATION PRICE JUMPS TIME ISSUER
The problem here is PRICE is quite in the middle, 2 columns in, followed by plenty of other numbers and strings. This is disturbing and harder to parse for the human eye.
Now to the column content itself:
1. Having region information right below system name wrecks havoc on any attempt to visually group the vertical LOCATION column cell content easily. If you want to display region information, do it in a new column instead ! Or at least display it on the side of the System name, but not under it!! What's the red color for? Is region information super important? The tiny system security color code dot: Way less useful than a clear numerical display could be. How about getting rid of the dot and using dot color as system name text color instead? And going numerical values, too?! It'd enlighten color blind players and would allow sorting by security level as well.
2. PRICE column: There's a simple reason to have numbers align right, not left: It adds to the readability. So have numbers align to the right cell side. Makes comparing vertical cell content way easier!!! What other than ISK is there to pay with? Exotic dancers? Repeating "ISK" in every cell is redundant and adds useless bytes you gotta pass with your eyes. Put "ISK" in the column header once instead!
3. JUMPS AWAY -- it's nice to be able to sort by jump distance now. But similar to 2.): "jumps away" is a redundant cell string. Get rid of it. A descriptive column header is all it needs. Put the number in brackets if you wish... something like this: | Jita | (3) |
4. CONTRACT column. People love you for finally having an indication whether it's a BPC or BPO. But please: Use another color, grey or whatever, for the "(copy)" string part, as it's not part of the item name itself but additional info. If copy/original info would get an own column one could sort by it, too.
5. This one is a biggie: ITEM THUMBNAIL LOADING IS SLOWING ME DOWN. Yes I am shouting at you. Thumbnail image loading results in lag & stuttering when trying to use the vertical scrollbar. Visual eye-candy for folks who can not read. Well. Some buyers might need them. So please, please, please: Add a setup option to disable display of item thumbnail pictures!! Usability > eye-candy, you remember? It's no candy if it slows things down. It's a bitter pill. And it has another negative side effect:
6. Compare both pictures. Old simple view had like 30 contract columns on display. New one is down to like 17 contracts. So there's like only half the information presented like it used to be in the old simple view. This is a loss. You force people to click more to get the same data presented. This is crippling. Thumbnail icon height is to blame. Again: Make display of thumbnail icons optional. Thank you, thank you!
Here's another suggestion some folks might kiss your feet for:
1. Give the user free choice to setup the contract column horizontal arrangement order. Be it PRICE, LOCATION or LOCATION, PRICE or whatever!
2. Add an option to not display some columns. "ISSUER? Who cares, let me get rid of it!" "REGION? I know them all, let me get rid of it!" ....

edit: Rightclicking a contract assigned to me should have a Location sub-menu (like when you right click a market purchase in your wallet), so I can set dest without having to actually open up the contract. __________________________________________________________ Please resize your signature to the maximum file size of 24000 bytes. i didnt read what all the others said, but i'm missing the following:
1) i want a free-search. in this beta, i can only search by item and creater. For example i want to search for ME10, to see if there are some T2 Blueprint Copies with ME10. And you know there are still out there.
2) i want more options at the item groups. i need "T2" and "T1". If there would be an option "T2" i can set item category to "Blueprint" and the group to "T2" and i would see all the T2 Blueprints i'm searching for.
I really hope you consider these options.

Right now there's the option of excluding auctions, but sometimes I search for auctions exclusively, and that doesn't seem possible under the current build. Can an "exclude item exchange" tick box be included? Or maybe "exclude auctions" could be changed to "include auctions" and be selected by default.

Another comment: the way auctions are displayed, you don't know if the price shown is the starting bid or the current bid. This can make a big difference. If an item is shown at 400m, it could mean that you can bid 400m (no bids yet), or it could mean that you have to bid at least 440m (if someone had already bid). With the old system, this information is available while you're scanning contracts so you don't have to open each one.

Nice changes. What would be really great is if you could select from the item quality tier.
E.g., have check boxes for Faction, Deadspace, and Officer. Then type in 'warp disruptor', select faction, results return all faction warp disruptors (RF, domination, ts, etc).
E.g., type in '100mn', select Deadspace, results return all complex battleship sized mwds/ab's. A la EFT.
Then it would be perfect.

Feedback: Started using it, one thing I dont like is that it forgets the user given search order in the detail window (eg. sorted by price descending) when you do a new search. - What we do in Life echoes in Eternity. |

Very nice improvements! Some thoughts:
* When adding a ship to a contract, allow containers to be removed from ship cargoholds as part of the contract creation process. Bonus points if the container can (optionally) be added to the contract "outside" the ship.
* When searching for Rigs (and maybe modules), add a checkbox to "exclude fitted" to filter out rigs already fitted to a ship.

Well, I've tried the new contracts search but I've gone back to the old version. It's much more difficult to scan through the current version with the information arranged as it is in columns. Most of my searching is done manually, and if I can't scan effectively then the system doesn't work well for me, and laid out like that it's slow and liable to give me a headache. Please, I like the extra search otpions, bt the current format is compact and user-friendly. Don't throw out the good parts of the current system with the bad, just improve the bits that aren't so good currently.

Why are the most relevant contracts diagonally opposite to the search button? Is there any way to show auctions only, like you could in the old one? Is there any way to show buy orders only? (You can no longer set max price to less than minimum cost) Would it be possible to add the option of moving the columns around, for example I have no use of knowing that the contract at hand is in the current station, and that said station is in Jita when I've searched for contracts in current station, while the issuer and expiration is interesting. Being able to move those relevant columns to the left would mean I can have the window smaller and chat or play while browsing.

I've been using the contract system for years and at the moment the new beta system looks like the one being replaced. I know it's still in it's infancy but the old layout was actully easier to read and more responsive. It gets on my nerves a bit when people just post, "yeah that's great CCP" or "loving the new system". These people are the one's who hardly use the contract system, and if they do it's only to sell a few items or search for something. Don't get me wrong I know CCP work hard to bring new features to the game, but people need to be posting constructive comments, otherwise we'll get a system worse than the current one. I think they should stick to the current contract system and just tweak it. I'm guessing the old system uses more resources, I've noticed the slow down when the trading hubs get congested. Also I'd like to know why there is a 1-2 minute delay on searching for new contracts, after you've done one search. Maybe some other traders should post on here, get some feed back from the people that actually use the contract system everyday, not once a week.

I don't know if this and be noted yet. However, if you search for something that is over a page long, and sort by price, you only sort individual pages by price and not the whole search - bit pointless.

First of all. Great work. It is allways good to see something is being done right for the right reasons.
What i would really like to see in this is:
a) Exclude possiblity for Lowsec and 0.0 in both "Buy & Sell" & "Courier".
b) I liked the old "Name Surgestion Box" when you typed an items name and didnt know the exact spelling. Made it a lot easier to find what you were looking for most of the time. Was also great to find what all exsist of a faction Item ie. "Dread Guristas... etc". Would be s shame to lose that.
c) How about adding the possibility to Search for Normal Items or Blueprints (Selectiv Switch)
d) Thinking about C, how about the option to Search for BPC or BPO or both? (Selectiv Switch for when Blueprint from C is selected)
Hope to find this in future Versions.

Agreed about the remember search bit.
In general I like the simplicity of the initial interface but I would like to see if it is possible to arrange the columns as I see fit (I do not know if this is already possible but these are my first impressions)
Would it also be possible to set a number of sort levels i.e. jumps accending, price acending (maybe 3 or 4 columns max)?
A filter to select high/low destinations and safe routes.
This may seem odd but now I think of it this could skew the market (if in high sec, high price etc) but this may help promote more ppl taking a chance in low sec.
Just my two bits worth.
Thank you for reading.

The old simple view (or referred as thin view per CCP Atlas) is enabled by adding contractsSimpleView=1 to your "prefs.ini". The file is located the in std path "...\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings" folder.
I get the feeling that CCP is pandering along this feature with their obvious reluctance put it into the ingame UI selection.
We'll see how this wraps out in the final version, as this _had_ been mentioned several times already .... not that I have complete faith in CCP, but clear proof that people wasted their time writing proper feedback posts - which will justify the shouting they'll be getting for it.

I realise CCP aren't reading this thread anymore, but: here's a suggestion for improvement of contract search beta: Add an option to filter out contracts at player-owned stations. This would be really good especially when you're looking at cap ships to buy, 2/3 are at non-NPC stations, so it leaves a lot of trawling through useless contracts...

I know this is kind of out there, but I was working on finding blueprints for capital construction components, and I noticed the Find In Contracts button. This is an amazing button, but the one request I have would be to add a second button to "Find Blueprint in Contracts". Just one of the little things I noticed would be useful for that particular situation, but I know its kind of a niche feature.

Contracts Window->Contracts Search Beta-> PRICE Column:
http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/2678/ishot358.png
^ What you can see in the PRICE column is not really streamlined:
a) Compare contract of Akiainavas: It's getting listed for -3m, but once opened up there is a positive amount of ISK ("You will get 3m") on display. So the point of view when getting presented contracts does change. The point of view always should be from browsing player side, not the contract itself nor issuer. Yes, this might include having to alter display of positive/negative numbers depending on whether folks look at their own or other people's contracts.
b) I do not like the color coding (grey/white) nor the way auctions are getting listed in the PRICE column:
1. The use of real color could really improve things here: If there's a [negative] number in red as an indicator you've got to pay for it .... if there's a [positive] number in green as an indicator you will get ISK.
2. My belief is any auction buyout price is more important than an actual bid, as the buyout price is a fixed one and the contract available. If there'd be a buyout price in green or red - How about using pale yellow or any other color for auction bids? You could save ourselves the stupid brackets that way -- or if you wanna use brackets, put them around the bid, not the buyout:
Cost is XYX(solid green) ... but it's a running auction and latest bid is abc(pale yellow):
XYZ (abc)
3. WTB prices are listed in "pale color"(grey, not white) atm. If there's some fixed price: be consistent and use a solid color, no matter if buy or sell. If some auction number might change, use some "light"/pale color.

I don't know if it has been said already: I'd like the UI to save different locations for buy&sell and courier contracts. Because I (others too I guess) search for items in all regions (at least the current region) and courier contracts for the current system (to pick up contracts while traveling to the destination).

Something else i found a bit odd. (and excuse my english, i'm german)
Lets say im looking up an item and i get 4 PAges of Results. Then i sort them by Price over the columm Price. By Logic i should get the lowest Prices on Page 1, continuing on Page 2 were Page 1 left off, but this is not the case... Page 2 most of the time starts with a lower Price then the highest Price on Page 1 was. This basicly goes on over alle Pages, making it really hart to see the low Price (or even highest) Price in there acutal Order.
I think this should be a definitiv look-at, since it makes Price sorting really Bad if not to say unusable.

First I just want to say that I love this new contract system over the old one especially the new "Find in Contracts" feature. I did notice however that the page sorting doesn't carry over across multiple pages as previously mentioned. It should be noted that it never really did that on the old system either.
Now for my request. We need a way to search by description or perhaps for all the items in game to be recognized properly for instance I tried my best to find snowballs in the new system to no avail and low and behold there they are when searching through the description field under the old system. I admit this could still be user error on my part but I think I checked pretty thoroughly for it and it should have shown up by then.
At any rate this is a great beta and I look forward to seeing the final result thanks.

Edited by: Lord Jita on 03/02/2011 07:05:39 I AM A VERY HEAVY CONTRACT TRADER LISTEN TO ME CCP.
Problems:
* Search results for Buy&Sell: WTB is now listed with a negative price -- this Makes it VERY TEDIOUS to see the margin on an item! I have to scroll from the top to the bottom and back, being very careful in the process to ignore multiple quantity scams, etc. Old way was MUCH better, with highest WTB and lowest WTS right next to each other.
* ICONS: Annoying and create a lot of white space in between rows. I see you use the 2nd row within a result for auction buyout price, but you could just put that next to the start bid price (or make it a seperate column) and get rid of the icons and that would let you see a lot more results on the page and not have to scroll up and down as much.
* Search options: Quantity might be a nice one to add so I can filter out all the darned quantity scams. Alternatively, put "[Want to buy] X 2" like you do for Sell contracts. Having to roll over a contract to see if it is a scam or not is annoying.
More later, I am sure.

I have spent about 45 minutes playing with this in game on an alt and I have to say this feature has been much greatly needed for a long time. I did notice a small issue with looking up BPO's and BPC's unless you were exactly specific as to the item you wanted to find but I was just trying to look in general at what ever happened to be on contract. This may simply be a minor glitch in my system as this is a laptop but I will try it out later on my main computer once I get home from work and let you all know my further findings.
Thank you CCP Iyenna

Hi Atlas,
Can you please confirm if this is an intended feature or not:
Originally by: Talthrus I'm also noticing that the new contract search is not staying quite up to date with the latest contracts. I'm able to query contracts with the old system that don't appear in the new search system for several minutes. Is there some sort of strange caching going on or should I file a bug report about this?
This added delay will have a significant impact on certain styles of trading.

Second. This new system looks like crap.
Best way to improve contracts currently is that you go and select simple view and sort the thing by price. I hate those ugly icons.
I generally hate everything with the new thing. Enough feedback there, I hope.
Also whoever invented making up this new contract thing should be jailed and kept there forever.

Vast improvement! This was needed bigtime.
Sorry for bringing this up so many times in the past but thanks so much for these changes. For me, playing was so cumbersome since in the past, you could not screen by volume, jumps or security status. You have added everything I wanted, and I am sure it wasn't for me but for others asking for these improvements also.
If we had perfection, we could screen by check boxes so that, for example, we could screen by "show only courier contracts less than 120m3 in hi sec and less than 5 jumps away", e.g. We can't do complex queries, however, the changes you made are so nice as is and I want to thank you for listening to us who asked for these improvements.

I would love
-checkboxes for module searches [ ] Faction [ ] Tech 1 [ ] Tech 2 [ ] Deadspace/Officer [ ] Faction OR search for modules meta level 1 to 4, for example.
-Filter Blueprints by original blueprint or blueprint copy. -Filter Blueprints by tech 1 or tech 2 -When a contract search has more then 2 pages, let the price sorting sort out ALL the contracts correctly, so the cheapest contracts of the whole search query are on the first page or vica versa and not still spread across several pages. um, yes...
I may post as I come up with more stuff.

I'd also like to be able to save my search paramters, so I can setup some standard searches and reuse them frequently.

The new beta contract search feature is great. Thanks.
One nice feature request would be to allow players to save their search preferences. Currently, I do not have a lot of isk in my wallet, so I have to select a filter that reduces the results to what I can afford. This works great. But, I have to setup my filter every time I use it. With a save preference feature, players with limited means could save their settings and not have to retype them every-time. It would make the application better.

Have noticed a number of times now that new system will say contract has 1 hour or less to go - a bid is placed and it then shows a completely different time up to it now being less than a day for the contract to finish.
It would be nice that once a contract has gone to less than 24 hours the time remaining is updated every hour. And that the less than a day message gets taken out.

After using the beta courier contract search interface for a while, here are my thoughts:
1. Allow for filtering on security 2. Allow for filtering contracts within a certain jumps to pickup. Filtering on region or constellation does not always give you the contracts that are closest to you. 3. Allow us to save some filter settings and give them names so we can re-use them. 4. I notice that the contract link in chat-rooms no longer display the whole volume, decimals gets rounded down to zero. I'd like to see courier contracts with volume between 0.01 and 1 show their true volume, not being rounded to zero. 5. When going through the contract history on My Contracts, if you click next page too fast, you get thrown back to the end of the contract history list again. Very annoying when you have moved 10+ pages back in history. Please give us page numbers such as in the new contract search. 6. When sorting the search page by Date created, the second page does not sort itself properly. Consider throwing in date created as a separate column. 7. Allow us to customize the order of the columns, and whether we want the column included or excluded from display. 8. Create some kind of back button after using the option Search for related contracts.
Overall, I enjoy the improvements to the courier contract interface a lot. Red Frog Freight Service -

you cant highlight a contract anymore in the new beta system.
By highlight i mean, when going through several contracts one by one, i used to be able to 'mark' the last one i viewed by clicking it. the new system doesn't let me mark them. makes it difficult when going through many 'multiple items' contracts that are similarly priced
otherwise, very nice improvement on the contract system, i love the new damage displays, and bpo/bpc distinctions, etc etc

Edited by: corestwo on 06/02/2011 19:22:21 I run a major faction sales business and often deal with dozens of contracts a week, so this is nice. One thing I've noticed playing with it is that using the "Find in Contracts" option in the context menu always resets the "Location" field to "All Regions". Wouldn't mind seeing it use whatever option it is currently set to, especially since it seems to use all my other existing preferences.
Oh yeah. GIVE US MORE CONTRACT SKILLS. I would unironically pay an arm and a leg for Advanced versions of Contracting and possible Corporate contracting. As my example shows there are plenty of businesses built on using lots of contracts. Market traders get to have up to 300 orders; why are we contract traders limited to 21 personal contracts and 60 corp contracts?
And on the corp contracts note, it would be nice to be able to create a corp contract from my personal hanger. Again, market traders can create corporate orders with items from a personal hanger with a simple checkbox; why can't we?
Those are more skill based gripes than UI based, but I figure they're relevant nonetheless.

Edited by: Stari Srba on 06/02/2011 21:02:57 To begin with, the new Contracts search beta looks great. It's definitely better than what we had so far.
For now, the only feature I'd like to have implemented is the Quantity option in the "Buy & Sell" contracts. I'd like to be able to filter contracts by specifying (minimum) quantity of a single item contained in them. This option would probably have to be conditional, available only when I explicitly name an item which I'm searching for.
NOTE: I apologize if this was already requested, but it's not easy to read 11 pages of posts
I also support the corestwo's request for more contract-related skills.

Edited by: Attrition Begins on 07/02/2011 22:02:07 Hello, i am probably missing something, I could search for an apoc bpc in the old contract system, but in the new I am limited to "battleships" which brings up pages of ships I am not looking for, and there is no way to filter these so all the all the apocs show first, instead it appears to be limited to 3 sort filters and aplhabetical is not included so there is no way of grouping just one ship ? the new system is much better in that you exclude courier or auction etc and including the issuer info in the floating box is great it helps a lot, but please resurrect the exact item into the new system or include an alpha sort?

I like the new system but, if you are trying to sort the list by least cost it seems to only sort the current page and not all the pages.
Even if an item on page two (or later) is cheaper that item on page one it will not be included.
For example say Retriever Blueprint has 5 contracts and each page hold 3 items. Page one original shows 2M, 4M, 3M, and page 2 shows 1M and 5M. If you sort by price page one will show 2M, 3M, 4M and not include the item from page 2 that was only 1M.
Page 1 should have shown 1M, 2M, 3M. Give it a try with Retriever Blueprint (set range to all regions)

Awesome changes, i really like the 'find contract' in right click menu.
One thing; could there be a choice to have the options menu at the top instead of left hand side of the contracts window, like the current display?
I have limited screen estate playing on a laptop and the columns tend to be cramped making it harder to quickly scan contracts this new way.
Thanks for these improvments so far, best patches ever

A few improvements to the contract system:
- I wish i could right click any item in game and select "Show on contracts", then the contract window would open, the item field should be auto-filled, and the window would auto-search for that specific item on public contracts, all regions, exact type match, sort by price, ascending.
- I search a specific item on contracts to check its average price. Then I create a public contract (item exchange) of this specific item on behalf of my corp. Now, when I search for this item again, it does not show the contract I have just created on behalf of my corp.
- When someone sells an item on auction contracts (e.g. a noob ship), and I place a bid on this contract on behalf of my corp, and I win this auction, and I retrieve the item, technically the contract should not be outstanding anymore. However, if the auction creator does not retrieves the ISK, the contract remains outstanding forever. And thus, always when I search for outstanding contracts, this contract will show up (annoying, heh!).
- There should be a more friendly interface for auto-completing the item name in the contract search window (something like Google does). A window pop-up is a very annoying solution.
- I don't know but... does anyone here uses that "item category"? I believe it is crap. I play this game since 2006 and never felt it useful for any purpose.
- Sometimes a contract assigned to my corp shows up in the start page of the contracts. Then I click on the link in the start page to this contract. This causes the contract search window to show up the contracts assigned to my corp, but this has a terrible collateral effect of changing all configurations I have set on my search window (again, very annoying).

I might just be doing something wrong, but the option to filter by putting in a min/max figure for collateral simply doesn't work, ie: when an amount is entered and the list refreshed, it just brings up the entire list as though nothing had been entered.

Overall the contract search beta is a win.
The only things that I have noticed thus far that cause me momentary grief is...
1. The list does not snap to top when you load the next page of contracts... results in... scroll down, load next page, scroll up, load next page, scroll down... Just sort of annoying.
2. When using the "Pick Location" search option I sort of prefer the dropdown list of regions in the standard version over typing in a location name. Perhaps some sort of combination dropdown/type-in could be implimented?
Forgive me if these greivances have been previously mentioned, I dont have the ambition to read a dozen pages of posts at the moment.

Edited by: Companion Qube on 12/02/2011 03:16:07 The new contract search is great, one small tweak that would be awesome is if the contract results window retained your sort setting from the last search. Say I sort ascending by price, then search again - the results are now in random order and I need to select the same sort again.
One thing that would be _extremely_ nice to have is the ability to use * in searches - say I want to search for all Pith 100mn x-large shield boosters. Right now I have to search for "-type x-large shield boost" and ignore the gist, I'd like to search for "pith*-type x-large shield boost" and see just the pith variants. That would be really, really awesome.

Not sure if this was said in the last 80 pages.. but I'm just gonna throw this out there.
Maybe just maybe we could get either a "Mulitple filter by" search addition, and/or a Low/Null Sec filter.
I usually filter by Highest reward in the public Courier contracts, and my biggest pet peve is seeing a ridiculous amount of Low Sec/Null Sec couier contracts, that are obvious ploys, a simple filter I believe could fix this. I know nothing of coding at all, but I think it would be a cool little tweak. Yes?

Love the new format - actually finding it much much quicker to use than the old style.
Really liking the (copy) (original) tagging after blueprint name when searching for blueprints. Saves me loads of time goin through copies pretending to be originals which I would never buy anyways - nice feature. Don't suppose when you choose blueprints as the item category you could then enable two check boxes called "Exclude Original" and "Exclude Copies".
Nice fluid layout, would like to see more options for the listing view maybe or even perhaps multiple sorting - ie the ability to sort by name and then price.
Nice indicators on the security systems - which will definately help out the newer players.
In general keep up the great work! =P

After some extended usage, I feel it's definitely better than the old search UI - there are few minor annoyances here and here but nothing significant. I am also using the Simple/Thin View (on one account) and the Standard View (on another).
One major issue at the moment is trust. I don't trust the search results enough. The search is iffy AND the results displayed are also iffy.
One case is regarding Auctions. It listed 3 (identical) Auctions from a seller when there's actually 2 valid ones (which I later found out after auction was over). I had a re-bid done (as one of the auction does not show that you're the highest successful bidder msg) thinking someone had bidded higher than me, but later it showed that person was myself.
There's also a few other iffiness such as showing the auction is over when it's not, having the auction clearly over but you're unable to "Get Items" and being unable to refer back to an unsuccessful bid on auctions which ended because the Journal can't trace it back.

3.Is there a skill which allows you to accept contracts remotely, similar to the skills for buying/selling from increased distances? And if not, why not? Three times in a row have I searched "All Regions" for a contract, trekked halfway across the map for the pickup, only to have someone else accept it when I'm 2 jumps from being in the same region and it's incredibly irritating.
On the plus side, the ability to filter by item volume is a godsend

Partial Corp Contracts
I would like to see a system implemented where a contract can be created that allows the partial fill, partial purchase, or partial hauling of items for corp members (alliance members).
To illustrate the partial fill, a corp would issue a contract to have 100 million units of trit supplied to it at x.xx isk price from corp members only. This would allow players within a corp to supply a reduced amount to the corp until it is filled and then the contract becomes completed. This would facilitate group mining operations or even individual mining operations (or any operations where a corp requires a certain type of product).
For a partial buy contract, here a corp might be a producer or Cap Recharger II's. It might have a system where it could supply members with these at a reduced price. The creator of the contract could offer 1000 at a time, and the members within the corp would be able to buy any quantity required. This contract would be completed once the quantity has been bought.
The final contract type would be a partial haul contract. Here a corp might require 500 million units of trit to be moved to a certain station. Here the player for the corp would be able to move a reduced amount of packages (as specified by the contract) with a portion of the total reward being shared and a portion of the total risk.

Forwarding of contracts: Very nice touch to automagically add the destination of the courier package you are forwarding as the destination of the new package.
One old problem remains: when attempting to forward a courier contract, and the courier contract contains assembled ships or assembled containers (with or without content), you will not be able to finalize the forwarding of the contract due to a container in container error. The only way to transfer and complete such a courier package to another pilot is to trade the package physically in both pickup station and destination station.
Would it be possible to resolve this in any way? The best solution would be if contracts containing assembled ships and assembled containers could be forwarded in the same manner as other courier contracts.
There may be technical problems that may prevent the above solution, so the next best thing would be a way to easily identify those contracts that can and can't be forwarded before you accept them, e.g. via a text message (can/cannot be forwarded), or a symbol. Someone setting up such a courier contract should also be notified of this when they are setting it up.
As it is now, you can only discover it after you have accepted the courier contract.
Volume of forwarded courier contracts
When forwarding a courier contract, the volume indicator stays at zero during the whole courier contract creation process (but is displayed correctly in the end on the contract). This should be fixed.
Completing forwarded contracts There is this bug that pops up with infrequent intervals, that cause the complete and fail button to dissappear from the courier contract in progress. The work-around is to complete the contract by right clicking on the package, and select deliver courier package.
Would it be possible to get this option available from assets as well. That is, to remotely complete a courier contract from assets, if it is in the correct location. (or fix the missing complete and fail button bug that have been with us since contracts first was added in the game). The bug is so infrequent that it is difficult to find out what is causing it, but it can be very annoying when it appears on a forwarded contract, as you then have to travel to the destination to complete it (when you just got someone else to move it there for you).

the syntax is <category or group Name>:<partial name>|<metagroup>
-category or group name is currently case sensitive (accepts only lowercase) but this is being fixed, examples are Charge or Module or Energy Weapon or Smartbomb for example of categories and groups. -meta group is any of the following
- tech i
- tech ii
- tech iii
- storyline
- faction
- deadspace
- officer
Example:
- Imperial|Faction = any contract where any of its content types has a partial typeName "Imperial" and is in faction metagroup
- charge:Imperial|Faction = any contract where any of its content types has a partial typeName "Imperial" and is in the "charge" category in faction metagroup so will find things like Imperial Navy Multifrequency S for example.

Love the new contracts search, just wish the sorting hadn't taken a step backwards with today's update. When sorting by price descending, the highest price contracts should appear on the first page, not at the top of each page in the search. That was how the old search used to do it. Until today the new search got it right so who messed up?

I'd put that in a mouseover or help "i" link (to possibly even Evelopedia) for the Search bar. No many is going to remember nor dig into old threads to look up basic syntax rules which should have been made available explicitly by default - rather than relying on players passing them on by word of mouth.
On another tangent, the "Copy" function for contracts sits rather buried under the interface layer. It's not immediately intuititive to players that a Copy function even exists for contracts until they click on the list icon. I would suggest moving it up a layer for posterity that even a newbie at contracts is keenly aware that it exists.
Finally, "Copy" is a word I would rather avoid as it's a bit wierd to say "Just copy the contract ..", also keeping in mind that it's a very common word for S&I. The better wording would be "Duplicate" as it makes sense to say "Just duplicate contract ..." or "It's a duplicate contract .."

This is an unintented side-effect to a technical constraint which is difficult to resolve but we are working on ways around it for this particular case. Hopefully we will be able to alleviate some of the issues (especially in the case of ships).
Originally by: Locin WeEda When forwarding a courier contract, the volume indicator stays at zero during the whole courier contract creation process (but is displayed correctly in the end on the contract). This should be fixed.
The plastic wrap container doesn't have a client-known volume but we are finding a way to address this, possibly by adding volume information into the container-is-not-empty confirmation.
Originally by: Locin WeEda There is this bug that pops up with infrequent intervals, that cause the complete and fail button to dissappear from the courier contract in progress. The work-around is to complete the contract by right clicking on the package, and select deliver courier package.
We're hopeful this bug has been fixed internally and will be deployed before long.

If this has been reported before, im sorry
At this moment i have 5 contracts up for Federation Navy Magnetic Field stabilisers. They are public, in jita 4/4 for 65ea
If i searcg the contract from this character or an alt, i cant find them in the beta search. i can find them in the normal search. if i uncheck lowsec and 0sec contracts they show up.
ive asked several friends to search for them, and about half can find them, the other half cant find them. so either half of us does something wrong, or the search does?:)

Absolute Cargo running noob here - just found this link - First observation is that I would like to be able to sort contracts by cargo volume.
Such a filter would be helpful to me as Im only using a Prowler with its limited cargo capacity.
Appologies if this has already been discussed, not had time to read through the entire thread.

In reference to sorting by Volume, you can do that.. expand your options, it's the last set of boxes, first set being Rewards Min and Max, then Collateral Min and Max, than lastly Volume, the minimum and maximum amounts. BTW, thanks CCP for adding the High/Low/Null sec filters!

did you change something with the assembled ship yet? I seem to be able to courier my package to an alt even if it has one in it, only problem is, I can't complete it! It give me (and my fellow RF pilot) an error. "missing an item" or something like that.
so we need to break the package and fail the contract, then item exchange it.. which kinda defeat the purpose. ;)

Just had the same experience after enabling the Beta contracts, knew of a Mega BPO that I wanted to get having found it on the original search, put all the info in on the new one and it wont find anything. I'd even gone through some of the suggestions above like unchecking low and 0.0 but nothing appeared.
Then I even cleared everything and just put the sellers name in and it displayed it which isn't very clever If the cluster hadn't shut down, I'd have taken some screenshots to post

Appologies if this has been reported, but one the start page i have a Contract assigned to me but whne i click it it goes to the beta contract search tab and sais "No Contracts Found" instead of going to My contracts page and showing the contract. At firts it would not even show up under my contracts, i.e. I could not see the contract assigned to me. I disabled the beta and re-enabled it, now they atleast show up when you manually go to my contracts page and hit Get Contracts. Other than that it's an awsome impovment. Thank you CCP.

I'm betting the issue that you experienced has something to do with the one of the persistent contract Options filtering out the assigned contract. Went through the exact steps and oiginally thought it was a bug ... until I noticed the filtering.
Fyi CCP, this is a UI process issue that needs a fix (if not already noted).

There seems to be a bug that some contracts assigned to the playyer don't register.
I've had several 'contracts' assigned to me that whenevre I click the link, It pulls up no contracts are found.
Now this might be seen as a bug on the contractnotification, until i tried doing it from one alt to another.
I had to disable the beta in order to 'find' the contract.

I like the layout of this new contract system and the filters. Two things I would like to see, would be a primary, and secondary sort. Also, a isk per jump rating in the overview without viewing the individual contract, that we could also sort by.

I tried putitng in how much collateral I oculd deal with so not to have to search through a long list wishing people didn't put such a high collateral for such a low and pathetic reward. but it stillg vies me a full list rather than only giving me what is in range of what I put in the filter

Confirming this - I had one contract assigned to me, clicking the link on the title page moved me to the beta screen where no contract was shown. I disabled the beta feature and clicked it again - there was my contract.
BR'ed as #108216
I love the new features, especially the option to have two windows open at the same time - I seek items in the beta window and check for it using "All Regions" in the old window without disturbing my search list. If at all possible allow us to keep two windows. Pretty please?

this is because of filter on the left page ("want to sell" or something like). Most os time i can't see simple exchange contracts assigned to me because of my filters.
PS: BR is such a good idea. Always wanted to do it but haven't did yet =) Would be good if filters adjust automatically when you press that link.

The reason alliances and corps don't use contracts is that they're basically useless for that purpose. (I tried it) The basic problem is that of setting and calculating prices: players shouldn't have to pull out a calculator to use the contract system. Intra-alliance or intra-corp markets would be very useful, and can be implemented with contracts, but it's too small to be a "market". Alliances and corps generally want to set prices.
So, I propose two possibilities:
- Provide a UI for setting prices in corp/alliance contracts. Let people drag & drop their mining haul into a contract, and have prices set by a list somewhere in the corp or alliance UI. Only let people contract things in the corp/alliance list, or provide a warning if the corp/alliance has not set a default price for an item in a contract.
- Provide a way of creating contracts from the IGB, coupled with the ability to drag & drop items onto the IGB. This way corps/alliances can create web-apps that would do what I describe. Drag your mining haul onto an IGB webapp and it creates a corp/alliance contract for you.
Either of these things will be most useful when coupled with a contracts API, as was mentioned. If useful IGB methods are added, there must be a way to obtain contract ID's in javascript. Currently there is the showContract method, but there is no way to determine the contract ID, making the method totally useless.

Dear CCP, I have a few requests in regards to the contract system overhaul.
1. overview-options style check boxes for item types (e.g. drone, commodity, blueprint) 2. overview-options style check boxes for contract types (e.g. WTB, WTS, Courier, Auction) 3. let us set up minimum and maximum isk amounts in increments of less than 1,000,000 isk, and let us set them to negative numbers.
Functionally, this will give us more modularity than we already have.
Additionally, it would be wonderful if you could institute an ebay-style autobidding system and make auctions end when it says they will, except if someone bids immediately prior to contract end (sniper rule).
I feel that these modifications would drastically increase the functionality of the contract system and keep me from staying up several hours waiting for a contract that was supposed to end before my bedtime, but instead continues for no reason well into the next day.

Howdy,
It searches for the entire string so it's not searching for "gist" and "booster", it's searching for "gist booster", which doesn't exist. You can specify wildcards with * Though. Try "gist * booster" for example.

Had a feeling there were wildcards in there somewhere, thank you. Do agree with Dodge, something in the UI should inform the user.
So... gist * booster > good to go gist * c-type > no results, in fact the same for x-type etc.
Is the "-" throwing something off?

New contract search system is better in all aspects, except i am missing one thing, for example, on older contract search system when you typed down one word or part of it, you were able to select the item you were looking for from the list. Now typing down for example "gist" gives you the list of all gist related items, you can't select the one you are looking for (in cases you forgot the full item name).

If they do add that back make it optional, I prefer the big list then right click and have it filter from there instead of some obscure list-box which may require you to size columns so you can read all the text.

Should the use of the wildcard omit results because it's not needed?
The problem with "gist * c-type" is that you requested 2 spaces between "gist" and "c-type", with (optionally) additional characters between those spaces. However in "Gist C-Type" there's only 1 space between those two words. The 2 spaces are not part of the wildcard tho.
Not knowing how the expression is actually parsed you could try "gist*c-type" (hoping that the wildcard will also match spaces).
And I agree that this is totally non-intuitive and actually requires some kind of explanation or documentation, preferably in-game.

I like the new interface a lot.
Something I am missing with contracts is the ability to contract "for corp" from your personal hangars, like you can with market orders. You can circumvent the restriction by contracting to corp, someone else accepts "for corp", then it's in Deliveries and you can contract "for corp"... would be nice if one could drop that stunt :-]

I am loving the contracts system, but here are some suggestions I have, based on my thoughts, and my corpies thoughts on the matter.
1. I reccomend that you have a section in the [esc] aera for options.
2. The vertical menu - Give us the option to place it on the top, bottom, left or right [mabie even free floating - multiple monitors]
3. Give us the option to turn off or on the [Find in contracts] contect menu - its great for the contract crazies, but when in PVP or anything else, its not needed.
4. Make contracts viewable in the API - this includes your personal ones that are in progress [full api?] - make the contracts that are public, for corp, for alliance viewable[limited api?] - mabie someone will make a contracts ticker?
5. make it so that trials can use contracts - restrict it to plex trading - pain in the rear to start a alt..

Simply saying yes I love this new system. A hell of a lot easier

Someone might have posted this already, but there are too many pages to go through; apologies in advance.
Given the level of technology available in Eve (i.e. clones and warships), why is there no easy way to fetch (and sort) all contracts for Item X between a given minimum and maximum price *PER* unit of Item X? When there are a lot of contracts for Item X, it is a real pain to scan through 100+ listings just to find the best rate. This is something that is available in the Market system -- just not the Contracts system.
Consider implementing some of the following: - a 'Quantity' column - an option to view price per unit instead of price for the entire contract - make the [Want To Buy] contract name more descriptive
Even if some of the above isn't possible for mixed item contracts, it would still save a lot of wear and tear on the eyes for non-mixed item contracts. As the user-base expands, you can only expect the number of contracts to increase, and thus for the eye strain to increase as well. It is no fun having to mouseover and scan hundreds of contract tooltips for something as essential as quantity to determine something as essential as price per unit.
Yes, this would probably have a negative effect on scamming, but scams that succeed due to the game's user-unfriendliness have a detrimental effect on the game itself, and thus should not be encouraged anyway. There is a line between scams that happen on a toon level (e.g. "Invest in me and you'll receive greater returns") and those that happen on an out-of-character level (e.g. exploits or fraudulent out-of-game transactions). Even if this is in the gray area, user friendliness has to take precedence, right?
This has to be a no-brainer.

I like the new contracts system, much easier to use and less of a pain than the old system was. I can now enjoy flicking through hundreds of contracts in great comfort.
Thanks alot CCP

A little bug I have noticed from time to time is that the option to warp to pickup or dropoff station from the right click menu in space is often missing after you have done some courier contracts. Red Frog Freight Service -

I really like the contracts search beta. The buy/sell part is close to perfect once I got my preferences set so I didn't get flooded with those want to buy orders. Now for my complaints/recommendations about the auctions: 1. It needs a "watch auction" function if it's going to only let us submit bids in the region we're in. If I have to make the 15 jumps to Jita every time I see something I want to bid on in auctions, I don't want to spend 10 minutes trying to find it again once I get there. 2. On the same note, why are the contract auctions set so we have to jump into that region to place a bid in the first place? Why not just make them global? I would much rather spend my time in the local DED spaces or doing missions than sitting around Jita for hours waiting to see if I got the item I'm bidding on. 3. The search function doesn't work right. If I set a maximum of 100 million, stuff much more expensive than that still shows up. Also, if I set it to show shortest first, each page of the results has some items that will end in the next hour. If I click the "bids" column, it does show the items that have bids above those that have no bids on each page, but it does so randomly; an item with 1 bid might be the top result, with maybe 28, 3, 14, 6, 1, 1, 13 for the next several results. It evidently just parses a "bids/no bids" check, then displays results randomly. 4. The time left on auctions should be a little more precise. It doesn't have to count down the minutes, but maybe "ends in the next 30 minutes", "next hour", "next 4 hours", "next 12 hours" would be good. That way, if we're bidding on an expensive item, we will have a little better idea of whether it's ending in the middle of the night, or whether it's worth staying up late to see if we got it or not. Well, that's all I could think of off the top of my head. Auctions can be fun, but we do need a few bidding tools.

I like the new contracts search - i have 2 comments thought:
1 - I sort them by Date created (newest first) and strangely the first 21 have the current date/time as created date and every time I click search those 21 got there created date moved to current date..... The first few one are the one I'm bidding on so its not so bad but still created date should the real ceation date
2 - i didnt find a way to get only T2 stuff (like T2 BPC or T2 cruiser etc...) like i can do for T3 BPC
Thanks

This is evidently a bug: Tonight I saw an item in another region while I was in Jita; I jumped to that region, and it still showed "less than an hour". I turned in a bid, and it showed that I was the highest bidder, but the time left changed to "less than a day". The timer is only supposed to reset to 15 minutes if somebody bids in the last 15 minutes; it should continue to show "less than an hour" in the description. Also, I noticed that an auction yesterday ended while still showing the "less than a day" tag; the tag showed "less than an hour" on the search box, but "less than a day" on the contract itself. I had planned to turn in a bid, but thought I had plenty of time, since the auction contract itself showed that it was just at the "less than a day" mark, so I went on a 30 minute hunting trip instead of immediately making the 8 jump trip to bid. When I got back and made the jump to that region, it still showed "less than a day", but when I tried to bid, it stated that I couldn't bid on an expired auction.
I think the auctions system needs a little work to fix this and the other problems I stated in the earlier post.

Please can we have fewer clicks/dialog windows for accepting contracts!!, especially those from corp members. How about an override option? For example a blanket option for "automatically accept personal contracts from corp members" and a similar one based on standings; "always accept contracts from contacts with excellent standings".
Failing that a right click "accept" option in the contracts panes, I don't want to *have* to view the contract before accepting it. Also a function to mark multiple contracts and accept them all without having to view each one individually.

Another suggestion about auctions: Why is it set up so that bids increase by 10% of the starting price? Most of the time, an item may be worth more than the 100 million bid, but not as much as the 110 million it will cost to make another bid. Likewise, increments of 100 million for a billion isk piece of faction equipment severely limits the possibility of multiple bids. How about making bid increments of the lesser of 10% or 100k for items worth less than 10 million, 1 million for items over 10 million?
And it would be great if there was a check box so we could easily get rid of those multiple outbid notices on the start page, especially after the auction has ended.
Then there was the fact that the journal kept the "needs attention" notice for an item I had already picked up until server down.
Thanks for at least looking at my suggestions.

I actually found having two separate areas, independent of eachother, for finding contracts to be rather easy. I was able to look up a partial name of an item using the old contracts search, then compare that item with others of the same kind, then proceed to use the "find in contracts" function to see the prices of that other item as well as the others like it. When I was satisfied with comparing I could merely navigate back to the old contract search and go through to list again where I had left off. I just read in the patch noted that the old search has been removed which, I find sad, since the two actually worked so very well together for finding deals and keeping track of things. I'd asked to have it reinstated but that isn't likely to happen, I just merely wanted to inform you that as far as the contract system goes, I was pleased with the two search functions working together for my benefit.

Just check the contract history of most of the people that just say 'Love the new contract system, well done CCP', 'can I lick your....CCP'. These people hardly ever use the contract system! The old system was much better, the new one has delays put into it to help with the load on the database. Should of just refined the old system CCP, less work and would of been better. If it's not broken don't fix it!

Edited by: Gusto Gal on 06/04/2011 01:11:59 Just tried contract search beta. VERY NICE change. The filtering options make it so much easier to get contracts according to my cargo and route specs. If you could add ISK/jump to the summary listing, that would be nice as well.
