Hello all.
This has no doubt be discussed before, in many variations. As we are all aware, the EVE subscription for a full month is e14.95 For a small fee of e6.50 per month (or what CCP see's fit), you could train your charactor skills via the EVE online webpage(s) (securely ofcourse) There will ofcourse be limitations involved, as you are not paying the full price. These would be intentionaly built in.
1. You pay the e6.50 per month to acces your toon's skills and change them. 2. The e6.50 allows one skill to be trained, at anyone time. 3. No queuing allowed (one intentional limitation) 4. Because of the reduced fee, your skills only train at 3/4 or 1/2 the speed they would normaly 5. New skills COULD NOT be added via this method 6. 1 hour interuption between skills training (probally not popular) 7. Only able to use this method 6 months out of 12 (to encourage full fee / game play)
The advantages are:
1. CCP makes money, to go towards further developing EVE 2. Players with little or no time (in the short term) to play EVE can skill up, but at a dis-advantage of the speed. 3. Alts can be trained (on seperate accounts) same rule applies for toons on same account as in game (can't train 2 on one account) 4. Able to change skills away from home, without having to download, install EVE client and then maybe uninstall EVE.
There may be more advantages and dis-advantages to this idea. This was litteraly just a quick thought, and hasn't been throughly thought out.
CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and views please.

I'd be better off paying the e14.95 'n' logging in when I can.

I agree... If I can log into a webpage, I can fire up the game for a few...

I actually like this idea, though I think it would actually LOSE CCP money as many people who have an account running but don't log on much would instead go for this option. Wether that would be offset by players who have suspended their accounts that start it again, I don't know. ---

Well it wouldn't really lose money. With this option, CCP is only having to pay for the player database, website, minimal staff and extremely small running costs (compared to the full client). Its would only be open as an option for 6months over 12, forcing the user to pay e14.95 for the rest of the year or leave eve for 6 months. Eve Charactor ebay sellers and farmers won't leave it for 6months with only a 3/4 or 1/2 training rate, as its not economical to do so.
The e14.95 we pay, goes towards: Teams of devs Teams and teams of GMs Client maintance and development (devs again) Large offices to house staff Massive amount of ISP access costs (compared to website based access) Graphics designers Test server up-keep Server R&D (IBM) Advertising (not included with web-side access as its aimed at an established user base) Lots and lots of beer to keep the devs happy ( lol ) The list could go on, and on.

Actually, there is already a game that works a bit like that.
Personally I'm of the opinion that you should play or not play, not something inbetween.
