So, she wants a desktop, so nothing of laptops in here.
Building AMD because it's far cheaper, and this will be for simple officework:
Case PSU
Debating on motherboard, between: MB1 MB2 MB3
And either of these CPUs But probably this one cheapy cpu
RAM HDD DVD
Really only thing I'm not sure of is the mobo. But any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I like MB1 the most.
MB2 had Radeon 3000, not as good as HD 4250 on MB1.
MB3 has VIA chipset, MB1 has native support for cpu which is always superior.

Not on your list but I like this mobo used it for several friends/family builds ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO, looks like the one on your list is the newer version of it and adds little future proofing/expansion capabilities.
For the money I'd toss an extra couple bucks and get one of the X4s while most individual apps don't really take advantage of it running multiple apps do and it gives resources for Windows to play with X4 3.0 Ghz
Power supply, alot of people skimp on this but I go active pfc, bronze or better, and my only brand of choice is Cooler Master, only had one fail due to a manufacturing defect and it was replaced in less than a week no cost to me. Personal experiences and opinions will vary greatly on best brands but I always encourage people to skip the cheapo models/brands and get something that will last. No real recommendation here but Cooler Masters Silent Pro line is deathly quiet but probably out of the price range your looking at.
Memory I stick with Crucial, doubt there is much difference in brands today as only 2-3 companies produce the lot of it.
Rest of the stuff meh, I'd install an easy cloud backup service like dropbox will save your alot of headaches later
Just my two cents.

MB 1 is an 880 chipset, which is a great chipset, support some of the newer ram timings and I think it has some tweeking done to how it handles PCI-e lanes.
MB 2 is a 760, an older chipset. Not as great as the 800 series or the 790
MB 3 is a 790 chipset which is the 'gamer' 700 series chipset, also a good chipset.
(Note: i am not 100% sure than the 700 series handles hexacore CPU well, but i think they do run.)
The more expensive Phenom II x2 555 is infact a binned x4, meaning it says 2 cores, but in fact has 2 additional cores bringing its grand total up to 4. Most boards have ways of unlocking those cores and using them. (Note: some of these are infact true 2 core processors, but more often then not they are binned 4's) -------------

I was under the impression that Antec is a fairly reliable manufacturer of PSUs.
As for the CPU, I don't plan to spend anymore on a processor - considering the chance that the one I get may be a tri/quad core already.
I'll be going with Mb1 then, was just hesitant because I had a hard time finding any reviews on the particular motherboard.

I have a dead Antec Basiq, no more Antec for me.

Like most other comp parts there are few actual manufactures mostly just rebadging for branding, and in a brand they have different suppliers for different lines so while a premium antec psu might be the balls and get good ratings it has nothing to do with their economy line that is made somewhere else. Quick google came up with this on Antec
ANTEC INC Actually built by HEC, CWT, Delta and Seasonic. Basiq line built by FSP.

Switched PSU in build to this. Figure it'll work great since I'm not running a dedicated video card; a number of people are running mid/high end cards with it and it functions.
And from what I've read on tomshardware and such, Seasonic is a very popular choice compared to Cool master + co.

From the looks of it.. the computer your putting together is very garden variety. I don't know the video card you are using..I don't think you listed it.
From the looks of it, I'd just grab a cheap dual core of craigslist. Could prolly pick one up for 75-150 tops. Stick in some budget vid card and call it a day. Should be enough for her farmville and myspaceponies.com ----------------------------------- They see me trollin... |

For my area, there is no such thing as cheap dual core computer on craigslist. Yes, it's garden variety, but it's 2010 garden variety.
Most of the computers for sale on craigslist are garden variety too - except from <2005 and running, at best, P4s.

Bah, cheapskate.
Get her this:
GA-880GM-USB3 (she wants to keep it for a couple of years, right? USB3 will be handy)
OCZ Vertex 2 (will make a huge difference in everyday work, from booting to loading programs, also noise and power consumption)
Also, the X2 250 costs the same as your "cheapy cpu" ...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

I actually will switch to that motherboard, it's using the exact same NB/SB, and PCI to USB3 cards are expensive ($30).
Already decided on Phenom > Athlon, call me a cheapskate. As for that SSD, it costs 2/3 the price of the entire build. No thanks.

You don't need the installer; Eve runs without registry files so long as DX9 is up to date. Get a USB key that can house the entire client _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Anything that increases their productivity is worthwhile I suppose.

Stock coolers are usually fine for stock usage, and I already have some paste lying around

Admit it. You leave it lying around in the syringes and, when asked, tell people you're a nanitejunkie, don't you?
