My picture looks like crap despite spending a hour on it..
I couldn't get anything that looked anywhere near the smug, but self absorbed west asian (not easter asian) guys that border the middle east.. rounded heavy features, darker complexion. that i'm supposed to look like..
It was very hard to look like a 45 year old "god father" type.
I also miss mys super hero costume.
Truly.. its no fun changing persona's after a few years of living with a picture where the personality stems from. "To infinity and beyond!".. is what fits my name.
We need to be able to keep practicing with these things....... and we're going to need to be able to go back a few days later if we don't like what we saved the first time if there aren't third party or non character specific ccp sites to practice on and to upload settings from.

What I miss is my long hair; the only long hair available for the intaki is the rasta style one. Im sure Bob Marley would have loved it, but im not him.

I agree with Shander.
While I won't mind changing costume *at all*, I too am finding it almost impossible to get the heavier look with the new Jin Mei male generator. I'm resigned to Daan changing completely :(
Also if they want testing you think it would be easy to retry without biomassing alts.

I made a new one on an alt to test it out, I created George Micheal. I think my main's Bloodline is different, so I'll be able to steer clear of it doing it again.
Why are all of the sunglasses Aviator style ? I don't understand how such a horrible look has lasted for so long,..
Also, are we all space bikers ? I mean the leather suits look like I'm about to head out on the highway, not walk from docking bay to the bar,.. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

Edited by: Barbelo Valentinian on 02/01/2011 17:23:40 Having played around on SISI, I have to say I agree with the OP. It's going to be a nightmare if people are forced to spend an hour or so before logging on creating their character, possibly being rushed to get into the game by corpmates, etc. The option to re-do character needs to be at a time of the player's choosing (say, within a several-week period) because they need to be able to take as much time as they need over it.
But even more strongly, I agree with the "where's my superhero costume" comment.
Of course, credit where credit is due, the new character creator is a technical marvel, it's stunning, the characters are amazingly realistic, and it's possible to give them a lot of realistic individual facial expression.
BUT ...
There's just something a bit dull about it all from the costume/accessories point of view, a bit bland characterless. WHERE ARE THE QUIRKY ACCESSORIES, THE PECULIAR VISORS, THE COWLS, THE LOW-CUT TOPS, THE VEILS, THE BIZARRE MAKEUP OPTIONS, THE ODD LITTLE TOUCHES, etc., etc.?
It seems the design has gone for "realism". (I also remember reading a comment about some of the old implant looks being designed at a time when people thought implants would look like that. But you could still have all that old stuff and it be a "retro fashion" in terms of game-lore.)
But this might be a mistake. A lot of the "first sight" charm on signing up to EVE, for me, was the utterly bizarre nature of some of the looks of things in the character creator. It all had the out-there-ness I associate with good science fiction.
To have all that quirkiness reduced to "bikers in space" is a bit of a come down, tbqh.
If some of that quirkiness has to be bought back in microtransactions, and the current variety on SISI is just representative of a "base" level, then that wouldn't be so bad - but if the microtransaction stuff is just more "realistic" bikers-in-space stuff, then it's going to be very dull. *****

You aren't forced to recreate the character on the very first login. Just hit no every single time when you get the popup asking you to start the char creator until you DO have 1h to spend.

problems: - lip color can't be toned down.. a darkish red is basis - eye details can't be made darker - skin color can't be made darker - hair tail isn't available - upper part of skull can't be adjusted (higher forehead needed) - portrait mode doesn't allow for adjusting light colors nor are the old backgrounds available - expressions are are gimped atmo (first version of the char editor had way more possibilities imho) support Public Idea Tracker | 24hr PLEX |

Thanks for the point of clicking on no for everything. Do you push "save" after that? I suppose if you accidentaly made one change and pushed save it wouldn't let you re-enter.
Truly I think its important to be able to re-enter the creation project repeatedly over a few weeks to fine tune your portrait..
Like I said.. after a whole hour of really good faith efforts I still ended up with a guy that looked like **** Clark with one too many face lifts, some weird eye expression and a perma smile that wasn't as wry as I though.
I would like to be able to find the picture in my eve data files and share it ? Does anyone know the location of the image?

I have the same problem. I downloaded the beta patch to play a bit with the character editor. It was very fine until I pushed "save" and thats it. Can't go back to redo it.
+ I also wanted to try out other bloodlines but couldn't because its locked to original bloodline. So i created a trial account and hoping to have a server mirroring soon. If ccp want us to test this we have to have full acces to every bloodline and infinite editing oportunity.
So to sum it up i downloaded 1.4G and cant test anything now. I realy hope when the final release comes we will have a 1 week period atleast to edit our chars look.

Well for the testing part, you can atleast create a new char on your current account. If all slots are taken, just delete one (for sisi only), 24h later, it will be done...

I know, it seems a shame to have one of the sexiest character creator in an MMO, only to be able to use it one time only. What a waste : ) However, I thought I read somewhere that the full release version will be a bit more flexible? As in, the portrait will be changable and that even your avatar can be altered within race/gender/bloodline constraints - meaning haircuts, clothes, weight, muscle, and plastic surgery. So nothing is forever locked in. And just aswell too. Imagine the frustration of locking in your avatar forever, only to have a patch release clothing items or a haircut that you really wanted in the first place. I think they'd be nuts to let the avatar customization/itemization go to waste - its a minigame in itself and has such broad appeal. I think even some of the "walking in stations" critics are even slowely being won over...
Until full release, I suggest you do what I do and keep one character slot on singularity permanently empty. Prototype and check out the new additions but DONT SAVE. Eventually you'll have enough experience to generate your avatar very quickly when the time comes

One of the problems is the difference between what you see during character generation and what you see when taking a snapshot.
I was working on a alt of mine, getting something decent, then when I did get to the snapshot the face had aged at least 20 years from what I was seeing in the character generator. No changing of illumination or posture resolved that.
Maybe it was because of different resolutions in the different part of the portrait creator and it would be corrected when the server will do the rendering, but with only 1 try it was not worth the risk.

The icon looks a bit different than the snap shot. Maybe add a small icon previewer. Also I think the default head position should be closer to the top because everyone looks like a midgit. Moving the default head location higher makes it look better and more like the current tq icons. The big shadows under the noses messes stuff up also maybe decrease them because it looks funny on the smaller icons while looking ok on the larger snapshot icon so you get stuck with it. |

well we all only get born once and if its an ugly mug, blame your mother not ccp. BUT, i would venture to guess plastic surgery for facial reconstruction is available? (more coin sink, hint hint)
when i created this toon it had pretty much what i was going for, which is why i chose amarr and then trained nothing but minmatar cause i hate amarr. sucks now because i cant seem to get rid of those squishy asian eyes now. they werent there before why do i need em now? how is a female/asian expected to be able to fly spaceship now?
what the **** is up with the backgrounds?!?!?
we were trying to decide if 5 yr old designed them and printed them out 7 different colors or if a ccp dev got hammered over the weekend and forgot about his deadline of turning in good backgrounds was due. 130+ backgrounds of garbage maybe 10 can be salvaged rest are crap.
also i dont mind spending 1 to 2 hrs to get the picture the way i want it but why limit is to the bone structure and skin hair features just due to our locked in bloodlines?
several years ago it mattered what race bloodline heretage sex and all that, it effected the skills and the looks of the character. why make us pay for it now and not be able to revert back? if u can peel our face off why not delete our history and write anew?

Edited by: VinceCold on 19/01/2011 23:51:27 I COMPLETELY agree. My portrait looks terrible. I thought it looked great until it was saved and I was shocked and horrified to find out that it is final. If you throw a completely new system at an entire community, you should give them a couple tries to get the hang of it, shouldn't you?
