This may be old news to some of you but I had an interesting and slightly humourous experience last night. My son was anxious to show me his new Brutix, so I flew to where he was. Since we are in the same corp. I thought it would be fun to lock on and attack him with my kestrel. I had 4 standard missle launchers firing Bloodclaws. Here's the odd part, I was orbiting him at 500m, and firing from all four missle banks. His shields were very slowly dropping. He had all his guns loaded and was returning fire. He was having absolutely no impact. If either of us had stayed in our relative positions, I would have envetually finished him off, although it would have taken a long time. But I got anxious and decided to increase my orbit to 2.5km. Guess what! Apparently my close proximatey was a protection because I got omgwtfpwnd within seconds. Before I could warp out, or he could shut off the guns, I was red, glowing dust. It was funny really. He was all apologizing (since we were just horsing around). Increasing the distance from his ship allowed his guns to hit me. Maybe this is something you can use in the field. Just me, Bad |

at 500m his tracking didnt allow him to hit you at all since you were moving too fast at a right angle to him for him to hit you at 2.5 it did allow some hits, and you got to see the power of close range blaster weapons.
The difference in your transversal speed was large enough to make him hit. Even when your absolute forward speed increased with you orbiting at greater distance. _______________________________________________

At a certain closeness, no guns even blasters cannot hit unless webbed.

Also the method in which your orbit changes can get you omgwtfpnd! If your change in orbit occured with a straight line away from his ship, you will also die before you even reach your target orbit.
There is a tab in your objects readout, that you can turn on called 'transversal' velocity. Turn that one and that is the speed that will affect whether or not you can be tracked by turrets. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |
