Just a minor niggle, but one I feel is important, especially with the portrait redesign coming up. The current sisi build does not have the option of capture portrait when right clicking someone. So we're currently stuck looking at a tiny thumbnail if we want to view all the new beautiful portraits and the effort people have put into them. Am I missing something? Will this be brought back? Thanks

I'd rather have a look at char option (in 3D) instead of the look at protrait.. support Public Idea Tracker | 24hr PLEX |

I totally support that idea... was the first thing I was looking for when starting with the newly created portrait.
Also, make the static portrait animated. Same way the characters just naturally move/breathe in the char creator. At least as an option, it wouldn't hurt and it should be quite easy to implement.

Same to me. After so natural look in creating phase it was a little dissapointing to see static picture. So i would realy appreciate an animated portraits option to be implemented.

Something similar to the ship preview window but for a character that is walking would be awesome.

Are you all crazy? Do you know how many polygons are in these faces, and the texture resolution? What do you think it would do to the framerate to have a system full of 400 faces breathing and nervously twitching around in local chat? And would an additional animation appear next to someone's text whenever they type something?? How many of you have complained of fleet lag or Jita lag before?? How much of a distraction would it be for there to be hundreds of tiny faces all over the screen looking around and being fidgety? Isn't this what Incarna is being made for? Wouldn't that entire expansion be nullified if you could see 3D faces without leaving your ship?
I don't think you've thought this through!

Of course they would not be shown with the highest visual settings. There's this thing called "LOD" (level of detail) and CCP has to use it in Incarna or otherwise the walking is going to become stop-motion.
But for personal convo between two characters it would be nice to see an animated 3D character/face. For seeing 400 faces in local animated in 10x10 pixel portrait is not necessary. It would be chaotic/nervous experience to see them all fidget in unison Not even mentioning the system stress it would create to load all them into the client memory... |

Then of course you must think, the person you are talking to is not going to "talk" to you when you type. So is that supposed to be a "vid feed" of what he's doing now? Wouldn't that be creepy, if he wasn't talking to you, just looking around wondering where he is? Expression not changing whether he's angry or happy? Looking like a trapped and confused/drugged convict? A still snapshot is more like a passport photo, so you know who you are talking to, but cannot see him.
Again I bring up the point of nullifying incarna with your idea. If every convo in eve was with a fully animated avatar, all the beauty and excitement of leaving your ship to talk to someone face to face would be lost.
Also, I would remind you of lag once again. With a still image, all the data that needs to be transferred is that 27.5kb jpg. With full animation, no matter how much LOD reduction we talk about, there will be the an order of magnitude more information that needs to be transferred, and that information will have to be appended to a character - including layout and animations - instead of just that one small image. Would hundreds of people starting convos in Jita affect the lag for everyone? Would alliances start to use mass convo-starting as a meta game tactic to slow their enemies when they jump in? FYI this used to happen until CCP fixed it...

Hired goon has a good point - it would probably be a performance killer if avatar movement were to be implemented in chat channels. But CCP already has a mechanism available that would allow us to view the whole avatar if so desired. If you click 'show info' for a ship type, you can click the little green icon in the picture to get a better, resizable view of the ship ('show preview'). This could be implemented for avatars as well. You'd have a static portrait in chat channels, but there would be an option to view a complete portrait/avatar from the character information panel.
