Hi,
so I recently came back to the game and of course my ship was parked in 0.0 Knowing I probably wouldn't make it back to safety, I plotted out a course using the map (traffic, podding, etc.) and started on my journey. After a few jumps I entered a system with five (5) people in it and as I got to the stargate some strange message was quickly displayed and I was attacked. Now, getting blown up is normal to me, but I was sitting at the stargate jamming the "jump" button for a good minute or so (thanks active shields!) before being blown up.
So my question is...why couldn't I jump? Also, what can I do to prevent something like this from happening in the future (as my map showed little, if any traffic)?
Thanks

Was it traffic advisory (maybe the node was overloaded)? If not, did you try to jump before the jump timer ran out (warped to gate too soon)? Did you return fire and get agrro? _______________________ Drink Eau du Nichup«, the taste of heaven. Now available as Nichup Citrus« as well! |

I don't believe it was a traffic advisory as there were only five people in the system and there was little traffic on the route (both in the 1hr and 24hr intervals according to my star map).
As for warping too soon, I guess that is possible, but I don't remember ever having that problem while traversing systems before.
It was in 0.0...do aggro rules apply there? I don't believe I shot until I was stuck, but, to be honest I was so confused I don't know exactly what I did...I remember being able to fight people and having either them or I warp out when things got too heated...has that changed or am I just crazy and making stuff up in my head?
Oh well, thanks for the reply Here's to figuring this game out again.

Check your game logs to see what the message was -- unlike CCP's server-side logs, the client-side logs are quite thorough. ----- Marcel "M'pact" Paquet Greater impact than a planet-killing asteroid strike. |

Without knowing thep exact wording of this "strange message" you received, there's not an awful lot we can suggest.

Sadly the number of ppl in the system you come from has nothing to do with the willingness of the server to let you enter the next system. Even the number of ppl in that next system has little effect as the load of the node (some server blade) is taken into account. How that load looks like is not predictable for the player.
CCP tried to solve one problem by introducing another. We got used to that.

To clarify. Multiple systems are run on the same node. These systems might not have much to do with each other.
So for example the system you are jumping into might share a node with a system in another region. That system might have a massive northern coalition fleet passing through. So even though the systems you're jumping in to has nobody in it.
Also another possibility is that the system hasn't been "turned on" yet. You'll run to this shortly after downtime ends. Systems that have nobody in them will take a while to load up, leaving you stanfing outside the gate.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Can't really say why you couldn't jump the first time you tried, but every time after you tried was because you had an agression timer for shooting at them. Aggro timers exist in 0.0, there just aren't any GCCs

Well, thanks for all the replies. I'm extremely, extremely confused though. I remember when I was heading out to 0.0 in a similar ship and while beginning a warp I was scrambled and attacked by a single smaller ship. Of course, having superior firepower and a warp scrambler I was able to deflect them, but they just put their tail between their legs and warped back out. I know that happened...but it doesn't seem like it should have been able to with agro timers and all. Also, I kind of remember being able to attack people then chase them through different solar systems. Isn't the aggro timer 15 minutes? How do we have fleet fights and chases then?

Edited by: M''pact on 03/01/2011 19:45:15 The 'aggro timer' for gates is 60 seconds from the last time your weapons fired (or other hostile action) at another player. It doesn't show like the other aggro timers, but you'll get an error message when you try to jump through before that 60 seconds is up. ----- Marcel "M'pact" Paquet Greater impact than a planet-killing asteroid strike. |

Thanks, I must have some seriously wonky memory. I'll figure it out...I guess we can let this thread die now.
