Originally by: Lyris Nairn I'm just curious as to the reasons behind mission grinding for those players who elect to spend a majority of their game time doing so.
Because it's stupidly easy isk, I genuinely fail at market trading, and the skill set nicely fits with the pvp I like to do (as compared to training industry, etc.). I only run one account, so that's a nice convenience.
Furthermore, think one can be a dedicated missioner in the sense that they make most of their isk that way and are specialized for it, without spending the majority of their time in game running missions. I have a Vargur, have ridiculous standings with my agents, and make most of my isk by missioning, but I don't spend all (or even most) of my time in Eve running missions. I pop in from time to time, run a couple missions (it doesn't take much time), haul in bounties and sell LP items, then go do whatever else I want for the next several days.

Originally by: Lyris Nairn How is grinding Sanctums or belts any different from grinding missions?
Chance for faction/officer spawn; thrill of seeing reds in system; more sec standing increase.
Also, missions are nicely fitted for people who have limited time to play EVE due to RL issues. I am passing through a fairly stressful period in my life and simply can't partake 0.0 activities because of lacking the time to do so. Missions are always available, you finish one then salvage then logoff. ...gis sdrawkcaB |

Because I need the isk. Strangely enough, I do level 3's now, in low sec, Yup, clobbered up with a bunch of pirates (if you can't beat them, join them). From there I'm going to do level 4's, in the same system. The LP alone is mouth watering. The added risk makes things much less tedious.
Another reason is that getting isk by doing peeveepee in low sec is hardly worth it. You kill some you lose some. With a bit of luck you can manage to keep a balance, of some sorts.
And doing market pvp...... sigh, I just lack the billions to get it really going.

I gather that people grind missions for hours for much the same reason that I, at least twice a week, scan down cosmic signatures until I go half blind: process addiction!
There's a lot of "it's calming" or "it's peaceful" here, as well as a lot of multi-tasking-oriented replies like "I do it while i'm doing something else." And that "something else" is, like, basically BS'ing on the Internet and watching teevee. It sounds like mission-runners have a need to feel like they're actually accomplishing something productive -- so why shouldn't that feel, at least in part, like work (even if it's super easy work with spaceships and attractive explosions)?
The truth is, it's all (mission-running, exploration, PI, even ninja salvaging and PVP activities) pretty repetitive when you get down to it:
1) Go someplace. 2) Destroy something. (optional) 3) Pick up an item. 4) Carry that item someplace else. 5) Put that item down. 6) Repeat!
This is an RPG. We are RPG players. Picking up things, carrying them around, and putting them down elsewhere (for entirely superfluous reasons!) is the proud tradition of our people. Do not question it!
