CCP are the makers of Eve Online. Just a little game you may have heard of. Now, I don't know how you feel about Eve, but I do wonder how you feel about CCP. When you see those three letters, do you curse to yourself silently? Or is it maybe the start of a semi?
Personally I love CCP. I think they have made a great game with Eve, and have stuck closely to their original dark vision, without selling out to popular colourful crap, or selling their IP to Activision Blizzard. They listen to their playerbase more than any other developer. Sure they get lazy every now and then and need a kick up the backside with some constructive criticism but overall I find them a breath of fresh air in the current climate of uncaring, mass-marketing greed.
Of course there are those of you who, for some reason, hate CCP - even though you pay a tenner a month to play their game. Maybe it's because DUST 514 isn't being released on PC, or because they nerfed your condor from a rail platform to a missile one, or because they didn't do something about the volcano that kept you stuck in some smelly country.
So how "loyal" are you? Do you feel like you are part of a cool "clan" or "group"? Are you happy to offer up your hard earned money for a new CCP product because you have confidence in what they offer, or their business practices? Do you get excited when you hear of something new by CCP, just because it's CCP? Would you/do you wear a CCP t-shirt? Would you fight in a war between CCP and Bungie Interactive?
For me, I think what it comes down to is that CCP seem much more 'real' as a company, than say Apple or Electronic Arts. They are here talking to us on the forums, we see interviews with them on YouTube, you can even meet them at the fanfest. They are tangible and fallible. They seem to engage with us more as people.
Are you loyal to CCP as a brand? Or just Eve?

People hate CCP because of favors, exemptions from rules, gifts they have given to their friends in the past even if it isn't 'policy' they still at least 'did' it probably still do. They also hate CCP because of direct GM cheating scandals, abuse of power by GMs, ect. Because of the way they will harshly ban you if you aren't one of them if its your word against say, someone who met one of the GMs without blinking an eye. All the stupid coding mistakes they have made which have in the past have even destroyed people's computers. Missteps in development, greed, being full of themselves despite all of this.
I think that covers most the reasons I've heard about why people hate CCP. I think, there's probably more.

I'm a fanboy of CCP but I still think I can dislike some of their decisions and inability to follow through with some parts of the game. But I don't see any reason to hate them. The t20 affair is ****ing old so people who whine about that still should really try to wake up. If you don't like the game, leave. No point in trying to change it to something else only to suit your needs.

Haters will always hate. They don't even need a reason, any random stuff may let flow their hate.
Personally, I think CCP are heros in the MMO industry and I'm very confident about EVE's path.

Hm... dunno why there came a response to the OP filled with stuff about hating CCP for bad stuff that happened. I always thought people would remember the good things (good old times) and blend out the bad history..
Anyways, as for brand loyalty.. I can't really make anything of that phrase. CCP is a company that has it's bad and good things going for them and they made Eve which I enjoy most of the time. support Public Idea Tracker | 24hr PLEX |

Do you think it would be a wise idea to change the game so your ship was magically moved to a starbase when it was blown up? Should all of Eve be highsec? No, that's another game (probably with huge shoulderpads in it). Nothing bitter about it, just that if you think Eve should be more of a flightsim/wow/Sims/chess/polo game or something else, maybe there's another game out there that suit your need better.
As a likeness, if you want your car to accelerate quickly, move swift and only travel on two wheels... maybe you should really bought a motorcycle.

I like CCP, but I don't think I'm loyal to CCP, since I don't feel the need to advertice any of their stuff, and if I don't personally like one of their products I will have nothing to do with it. If I'm loyal to something it is EVE and the people who play and develop it, and the EVE loyalty is to the current game, not to the EVE brand. CCP just happens to produce things that coincides largely with my personal preference in gaming, so I am more interested in their doings than most other companies.
I've had the same relationship with other people and companies and when they changed direction to one I wasn't interested in following, I abandoned them immediately. Or maybe it is more accurate to say i follow the path of my own preferences as much as I can and I see no reason to deviate from it. I'll be happy to share the same path with any who travel it at the time, but I'm not leaving it when my traveling companions paths diverge from mine for whatever reason.

I am not loyal to anything, not even to my own opinions but, and that's a BIG but (_|_), I think CCP is very good at PR if you consider that you can not please everybody all of the time. And the leadership seems to know that silence is stronger than empty words, especially when your product is your target market.
I will try their other games as they come out, but EvE has too much potential for me to ever leave entirely (besides: all those SP-hours can't go to waste!).

Things I like about CCP: 1) The devs are cool 2) The devs actually come to the forums and interact with the playerbase. 3) Despite all of the flaming towards CCP on these forums, I have yet to see a SINGLE developer lash out against a player. Maybe a calm, outwardly respectful but intrinsically smug remark here and there. But never angry and never hateful. 4) The devs occasionally come to these forums and actually help out their players with problems they are having. Even if this DOES teach players to come to the forums with their problems instead of waiting in the petition queue. ----------

Well their marketing team has really gone all out to get people (for a change), so im pleased with that, a lot of bugs and problems but Incursion looks very promising, much better than Tyrannis & Dominion.
Still though players (especially 0.0) are ****ed at the changes in 0.0 and I would like to see when CCP changes 0.0 to actually become decent again and by decent I donĘt mean titans > supercarriers > carriers > rest

Edited by: Liang Nuren on 09/01/2011 18:53:59 I remember back in the day when I was on a mailing list with the devs of most of the first gen MMOs (Everquest, NWN, etc) and pretty much everyone agreed that a single shard MMO was impossible, that death penalties had to be as easy as possible, that PVP was a game killer, etc. CCP thumbed their nose at all of the industry experts.
And they won.
Go CCP.

Edited by: digitalwanderer on 09/01/2011 19:11:57 For me,after nearly 8 years of playing,it would be pretty much a slogan:
DON'T BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW
Now the reasoning for the above is mostly due to the release of new features that should be improved after their initial release, cases such as faction warfare for instance, wich hasn't been touched at all since it's release,or how about T3 ships, which after 18 months since their initial release, all we have are cruisers, and the list goes on if i had the inclination to go thru the content of every expansion since the game's release.
Then we have the content that got little to no attention in terms of storyline over nearly 8 years....That's right, the jovians and the fact that nothing happened at all during all this time storyline wise regarding them...We don't really know any more about them now than we did 8 years ago, something that i would never expect when i started playing the game in 2003.
But wait, that's not the only thing either, there's also the eve gate itself and nothing also happened with regards to that as well storyline wise, and the potential if it was ever reopened again would be immense, much more than simply getting the drone regions, though i will admit that the sleepers are cool in terms of discovering what they're all about, wich is still an ongoing investigation...
So instead of paying attention to examples such as the above and more, what will we get???....That's right, walking in stations, and an FPS for consoles like that hasn't been done to death already, and i don't think that eve's storyline alone is going to set that one apart from other FPS shooters available in consoles, some of wich are built with more advanced graphics engines with destructible environments...
I think CCP is trying to diversify too much and forgetting the core game, wich there's still much to more left to expand upon basically...

Edited by: PTang on 09/01/2011 19:13:03 In a resent interview ccp said they are building WoD with the GBTL community in mind.
The on eserver ides and player driven economy makes eve the only real mmo. (massive is not 5000 people interacting with one auction house)
free expansions including updates like remodeling every ship in the game for 3 years, dust, and walking in station shows the 1st mmo to have a commitment to be around 10+years. No other mmo has ever dreams of doing this, it's always, make money, release next game. Making eve the 1st game I fully expect to online in 50 years, that won't even be the same game. Think if sc2 over the past 12 years had just updated, for free, every year, and now just looked like sc2. That's what CCP has done. And I'm a man that likes commitment.
Those 3 points are all I need to want to work at ccp. play the game? I don't have much time for games, but I would give my abilities to any company that does the 3 above things.
Also on things like excellence, yeah ccp was been wavering, but no other mmo has gotten this much devoplment in terms of real change to the game, so as long as they don't stop, I just assume factional warfae will be changed, not just in a 2-3 years later balance patch, but in a massive rethinking that looks nothing like the old factional warfare.
that's been my point allong though. CCP doesn't fear change, or things *people* that are different. and that's cool.

I would say I love CCP. Funny, interactive, free expansions and with vision.
Only bad thing is their GM department, but having harsh GMs with little interest/power to reimburse is just the price of serious business pvp.
I used to like Valve alot, but last few years I've been sick of their **** release schedule and milking of IPs through TF2 (pay for hats wtf) and L4D2 (should have been free expansion).
