Inested of using the curent duble click method of manuvering your ship i think it would be fairly easy to inplemnt a simple hot key togle that would allow players to wasd contole there ship.
In pvp dynamics this wouldent change mutch, speed of a ship would remain the same only manuaveribility would improve.
From a PvE perspectave, it give the player a stronger sence of controle with one's ship.
likes on this? why or why not?

You are not the first person to suggest this idea. Your idea is no different from the others. In fact, the last thread about this was less than a month ago.
Please use http://www.eve-search.com/ and look through the graveyard of threads like this one before you post any further. _______________________

since eve serch is broken i will explain why ShahFluffers just lost 5 IQ points worth of brain cells
In eve every action you preform is checked by the server is what is commonly called a "call" you turn on your guns you call the server , you start mining you call the server, each and every time you do something you call the server.
this has allowed eve to have one thing no other MMO has come close to doing, a single universe with 50000+ players. this is doable because belive it or not an entire fight can generaly exist on maybe 20-30 calls over the duration due to changing direction and turning things on and off. multiply that by say 20 for a 10V2 fight and thats only 600 calls over say a 5 minute period.
Know introduce WASD , in order for wasd to be effected it must sample what your doing aproximitly 5 times a second this means that should you be driving your ship using wasd over that 5 minute battle your single client sends 1500 calls just in movment alown the result is a huge increase in lag and results in anything but small 5v5 battles grinding to a halt as yet another CCP server explodes.
Hence why WASD will not be seen any time soon

Ontop of what's already been said it would be highly un-practical for anything besides agile frigates concidering how slow anything else would be to respond.

Eve-search, the external forum searching utility that is hosted free to use by chribba, available for at leas the past three years, is working just fine.
OP: your idea is not original. I've explained the two very important reasons why it doesn't work in the last thread on this subject, as well as last months one, and Novembers thread as well. so I'm just going to covertly insult your intelligence instead and leave it at that, ok? The Adelaide meet, be there! |

It's assumed that something cannot be done until it is done. We're in 2010s, not 1990s. Manual piloting is a feature of Jumpgate Evolution, a mmo that is set to take a bite out of Eve more than a year ago, but has since been put on hiatus with no end in sight. We'll have to wait until Eve get some competition for manual piloting to be implemented.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting if I were you.
Anything done within the rules of the game is NOT griefing. Get over it. |

not only that and what was explained above, it would make the game much more confusing, actually.

A) 1000 people in a system using WASD, much less 100000 people in the galaxy, would kill any game. B) No more mentioning JGE, all arguments citing JGE are invalid till it actually appears and has been battle tested.
