Why remove local completley instead of making it like corp or channel chat, where a player only shows up when they talk? Or is this another one of CCP's "limitations", like session timers?

when people talk about removing local, they mean the intelligence tool. Nobody cares about the chat.
Removing local means doing what you said - setting it in delayed mode, so people only show up when they talk.

I think local should work like this. As you progress further away from high sec you start losing certain amounts of broadcast reception. Until you are in 0.0 Once you get there you only know if someone is there if they start talking. But once they stop and if they leave the system you do not know they left as their pic will not simply disappear. When you are in high sec (10.0) you get perfect reception. The lower you get your comments start breaking up more and more until at a point where you ship must supply the means to communicate. I like this feature as it adds a little realism. Option two would be removing local entirely when you enter null sec or wormhole space. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

Honestly, your explication doesn't make sense. Quantum Entanglement works over infinite distance, and instantly.
But yes please, set local to delayed mode.

Yes...give pirates and gankers the perfect unvulnerable immunity from death while ganking by removing local. Hell while you are at it make it so a person that is being attacked cannot fire back or flee.

Both can happen happen already. They are called jammers and warp scramblers and they work very well. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

Has to do with the subspace communication beacon. Let's just say they are maintained perfectly in 1.0 systems and are not upkept as much, as the security status of the system goes down. Though, this far in the future, you would think all ships would have their own comm beacon, but oh well ;)
Also, maybe we could see the birth of a new module. Comms Relay. Makes you appear in local no matter what system you are in, WH or 0.0, or where ever. Kind of like a "I mean you no harm, here's my proof" module. May not get used much, but ya never know...

Now THIS I support. I like the cut of your jib sir.

You are in more danger with local than without it. Unless you **** your drawers the instant someone else is in the same system. In which case, you are far too paranoid.

imo local is just good as it is, because yes it's more an intel tool than anything else. Much pvp "tactics" and stuff actually depend on it, let it be.

That's a good point, but this would spawn a whole new set of tactics.
Maybe have a new player owned structure. "Subspace Comms beacon". Can only be anchored by the sov holding alliance, but would reveal who's in local to anyone who's in the system. That would give low sec pirates what they want (Element of surprise in low sec, cause NPC holders in low sec would not use these beacons), and sov holding alliances what they want (Cause sov holders like to know if there's a red in system).

I like the whole remove local argument. Make local delayed so it cannot be used as intel. I dont want local!!!!!!!!!x 300 more !s. We have that, it is called WH space. Removing local actually makes it harder to catch people because:
1) people are going to be on their toes more 2) it will be replaced by another quick basic intel tool that will probably require a single click. 3) You going to have to actually hunt for targets not only in the current system but also to determine if their are any viable targets in that system.
Given the usual 1/2 dozen amounts plus of ships parked in POS shields in lowsec and 0.0 your going to have to sift through a bunch of hits on a combat scanner and find the ones not parked at a moon. It will actually take you longer to even determine if anyone is in system.

That would be the problem. Perfect intel with no effort. Also renders Cov Ops cloaks useless as your face is plastered in local the second you show up in system.
