On sisi for weeks now every time i try to do a new character its hairless. And i discovered today if i uncheck "use low quality characters" and use high shader setting that it has hair, but on that setting characters are simply impossible to make because of terrible terrible lag...
My graphic card is ge force 7600 gt on amd x64 1800ghz procesor. ...btw my computer supports shader 3.0 (if that could be the problem)
I am interested if this is only on sisi now and when new character creation hits tq will i be able to make a new character in low quality or would i be forced to have ugly character on making of which i have no control what so ever.
If its the latter than when new character creation gets on tq i can say good bye to having any character avatar
In that case would be possible to keep our existing characters (coz new ones would be only worse)...?

Dude, that graphics card was low-medium end in 2006. That's ancient history in computer hardware.
You might want to try and run Eve on its smallest allowed resolution. Don't use HDR, antialiasing etc. Change the card settings to "perfomance", sacrifice some quality for speed.
And lastly, my best advice is to select hair the last. Customize first i.e. sculpt choose clothes and only after you're satisfied, try the different hairstyles. Hair can be quite a resource hog even with more powerful systems. I have many times the power you have and I too select the hair the last. |

Thank you for your advice
Yes ill try to put hair last than... ...but as far as i figured you cant change low quality characters setting when in the middle of char creation, so i would have to start over and on the other settings scuplting is laggy as hell
this is what i managed to get without hair, its something ..but i would like to have more options when creating my character
Well i know its old (i intend to buy new graphic/processor/ram etc .. in the summer so i hope i will be able to run eve until than). But game runs very well its just character creation that is slooow :P
/me secretly hopes that when this comes out on tq hair will be visible even on low settings

Well the good news is your portrait will be rendered sever-side, so no matter what you set your graphics to your portrait will be rendered with high graphic settings. Just set your graphics as low as you can while you make your character and bump it back up when your done.
You WILL need new hardware to run Incarna however. I image the character creator uses a tiny fraction of what the full environments will use, with multiple avatars at any given time.

i really hope hair will be visible without physical simulation, otherwise it's baldville for me :) ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

Last time I tried, the escape menu still worked in the creator, and settings could be changed (except HDR).
One option is to put eve on a flash drive, and borrow someone else's PC and internet for a couple of hours. (just remember to delete the cache files afterwards).
I know the feeling though- using an ATI HD2400 Mobility myself currently (new gaming rig coming soon - just hope the grace period is long enough).

It's SiSi so... If you have a new character slot available, use it and create a new character. If not, delete a char and create a new one.
When the bloodline screen comes up, it renders 6 characters - 1 male and 1 female of each of the 3 options. See how they look and how they move. If choppy/bad -- yeah, you're stuck with getting new hardware before Incarna goes live -- this "first pass" will only be portraits. If it looks OK to you...
Next -- create a new character fully based upon your current character. Adjust as you are able, save it off and wait 24 hours to see how it renders from the server side. check the other posts here about server side rendering and what images look like that are showing hair styles, etc... to see how they are rendering and try and match up what you're looking for.
Being as slot-counts are limited, I don't think CCP will be overly upset if you delete a char and recreate it to get a feel for the rendering process nor do I think they'll get ****y if you're deleting a char every couple days -- day to make & see rendering, day to wait out delete, so on and so forth.
When it goes live, if you don't have a better card by then, you at least can "fake it" creating a new char based upon what you see rendered from this trial and error process on SiSi.
PS: No, the final rendering shouldn't be as intensive as the creation process.
Final renderings will have "fixed points" to reference for skinning the models. During the creation process those points will change a lot as you "draw" what you are looking for and that requires reskinning of the image over new points every time you adjust something.
That's a bit different than how it'll work live. (besides incarna is a bit in the future still -- this will be mostly for portrait work at this point -- so you may buy some time to... buy a new card.).
