Have any Gallente loyalists (FW milita) ever tried to destroy the fleet and Leviathan at Caldari Prime?
It seems a little off story line wise that the Gallente government would tolerate such a military force in it's sovereign territory for two years.

They tolerate it because that titan and it's fleet are locked onto the segregated Gallente residential areas. Hostile action would be met with the total liquidation of the entire Gallente population on Caldari Prime... which I guess for none Capsuleers would be an issue
That's how I understand it anyway.

I know that rational, but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny, that's my point it's become silly and immersion breaking.
1) It's a baseless threat, because that would kill as many Caldari as Gallente, probably more because after two years much of the Gallente population would have left unless they are locked up in camps or Ghettos. 2) After two years, it would be so locked down it couldn't do anything. 3) The Gallente would probably retaliate.
The main question was about has a FW milita actually 'tried' to take it down? I have scoured the forums but no apparent attempts.

I've heard that it's been tried before, but the shield recharge on the titan is just too much, even for a 100+ fleet.
Personally I was hoping the Sansha would take it out (and tried to get them to do just that to destabilize Caldari/Gallente relations), but I guess not.

It's been attempted repeatedly, and every time was a complete failure at doing any meaningful amount of damage to its shields. The State loyalists who aren't in militia and can still go into GalFd highsec with their basilisks don't help that much either.

The titan itself I was pretty sure was a large collidable object (not destructible) but maybe not. The fleet at least used to get farmed. Before the nano nerf I've seen a ceptor orbiting the site kiting the missiles while 2-3 other pilots killed the rats and salvaged/looted. I tried the same post-nerf and wasn't able to do it, though my ceptor skills sucked then. Now I avoid killing Faction NPCs, so haven't been back in a long time.

It's catalogued as destructible. From what I understand, though, it's got something like 3,000,000 shield hp with an insanely low (as in <10 second) recharge rate. And I have seen interceptors out there kiting the NPC missiles as well, less than a year ago.

Thanks, that's the information I was really looking for.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 14/01/2011 11:55:11 I was present on one attempt at shooting the titan. It does rather quickly start to bleed to armour, but if it is repaired, there's pretty much nothing the attackers can do (since RRing a LCO doesn't aggression flag the RR ships to the attackers). Suicide ganking is quite hard, since it is in a 1.0. It has quite high resistances, and regenerates shields fast.
For in-game intimidation purposes, a titan's doomsday can pretty much lay waste to an entire planet. Gallente Prime is well in warp range. While the Federal capital is not in Luminaire, it can be assumed that Gallente Prime, as a temperate homeworld, is very heavily populated, and a retributive doomsday device activation would likely kill billions of Federal citizens. Even a fly-by might be good enough to kill a billion or so (since the mass of titans is in-character assumed to be enough to affect tides - most titans are supposed to have hard locks in place so that they can't go into lower orbits).
And yes, Caldari Prime and its near orbit is very much Caldari State sovereign territory as far as in-character matters are considered. (Of course, the game engine cannot replicate this the more than it could replicate the now-retconned old lore that Tierijev was a Caldari system.)

I don't know if you've read EA but basically:
1)Before the surprise Caldari attack, there were racially fueld riots and attacks between Caldari and Gallente citizens on Caldari Prime, so the Gallente president ordered the segregation of Caldari Prime's citizens.
With the help of a backstabbing Gallente admiral, Tibus Heth walked right into Luminaire, bombarded Caldari Prime with ECM and activated guerilla units on the streets. The best part was, because Caldari prime was segregated, Tibus Heth knew exactly where the Caldari and Gallente citizens were located.
After the initial assault, Tibus Heth contacted the Gallente president with a ransom. If the Gallente retaliated against the Caldari, Tibus would destroy all the Gallente residental areas (Where the Gallente citizens were trapped, almost like concentration camps) and... I think attack other Gallente planets... not sure on that though.
After two years I imagine there are still a lot of Gallente trapped on that planet.
2) & 3)At the time of the attack the Gallente Navy was no match for the months of preperation by the Caldari. The Gallente just didn't have the firepower or coordination to mount an offensive even if there wasn't a ransom. After two years that probably has changed... but still that ransom remains the same.

oh the leaviathan class titan there in the Luminaire system is a destructable large collidable object alright, and I DID damage its "shields" and it stayed permanent for a very long while, so it is worth attaching, once you clear out the AI based caldari ships of course. I know that the so-called "TITAN" above the planet there in Luminaire is destructable because it's symbol is a Square with an outward facing triangle at the very center of each line, thus its marking a crosshair or in this case, a large destructable collidable object, it doesnt have any "tanking" units, if you think it does, then you've been fighting a live titan ship, not the mock up in Luminaire.

threat is moot. no independent state would allow themselves to be held in check by threat to it's security. that's the whole point of being independent, that you can protect your subjects. if a state can't protect their citizenship, it does not deserve them. Caldari could just hop from system to system and claim it all.
Gallente are *allowing* Caldari to remain in orbit. imo, there is some trade that includes far more than Caldari Prime population. i hope it's worth it, cause long term Gallente are just cutting the branch they are sitting on. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel - [jedi handwave] "There is no spoon." |

Although my alt is Gallente it would be cool to see one of the major races absorbed. In this case gallente by the Caldari. Would make a great story arc for any potential rebellion.
I love eve to bits but sometimes I think it is a bit too symetrical where it doesn't need to be.
