Ok... in the right click menu for the system name at the top left...add a menu option that has Aura say the system name as it is intended to be pronounced!
JOY
ok I know thats a load of ogg files but still it would be cool. And perhaps the same for ship names.

First one that springs to mind: Chamemi. I pronounce it "Kamemy" but then I heard my old CEO say it "Chameemee". I still like my way.
Also, the null sec systems are hard to pronounce. I mean, how the hell do you say "PNQY-Y"?? Hurts my tongue :P

Chamemi? You got it wrong on both accounts! It's pronounced "Kamemeye". The "I" is pronounced just like in "Eye-rish", and "Eye-talian".

[EDIT] As for the 'PNQY-Y', these are yet to be named systems . They're mot empire, and the empire does not care to assign real names yet. By naming something you are asserting your control over it. (Think of highschool and that horrible nickname you got stuck with. -That's your classmates asserting their power over you)
Until all the 0.0 Systems are brought into the fold though, how about banding together and naming them yourselves? Preemptive assertion.
Alternately you could assign a funny acronym. PNQY-Y: Peoples National Quangocracy of Yoni - Yashiki (sector)
"Eye-talian?"... I hate to break it to you pal but the rest of the world doesn't take eloquency lessons from George Bush; the correct English (and native Eye-talian for that matter) pronunciation is 'it-alian' as in the word "it". Im aware that I sound like a grammar **** here, but i am; and that mispronunciation really grates on me.
As for the idea, its brilliant - we should get it installed on American atlases too!
In all seriousness though, this would be a nice addition and it would certainly prevent the possibility of an embarrassing slip-up on voice comms! |

I like the lul factor of the names. We get ppl to say the destination 2 or 3 times sometimes :D
And who doesn't like to travel to Vaja/Vagyh/Vahaga...you know the place.

Well, even with this tool I think most people will still misspronounce the names quite often.
Maybe someone wold make this as a out of game tool. (not me because i really dont care that much as long as people im talking to understand me and I undertand them) _
I like to play this game because it make my in-game actions and archievments to mean something in-game. |

Doesn't need sound files, good portion of the systems were just randomly generated from the same sets of letters (Odotte, Odette, Odixie, Dodixie or Gheth, Ghekon, Ghesis). I cannot pronounce majority of the names, so a friend and I pronounce it as we see the system names as a joke, like Eglennaert we call Elegant Art. Then there is Quier and Ainaille, guess what those sound like

That wold be "pO ene quO" for me, I guess you wold say something diferent and people of different native languages wold make for a great variety of different names.

I would make up something short and hope the others get the picture. I would probably pronounce "PNQY-Y" as if it was spelt "Panquey" or "Panquey-why".
Then there are the systems that are actually more comprehensible when mispronounced on purpose. Uosusuokko? Who would want to pronounce that correctly under the stress of combat or when drunk? Better to give it a nickname that is understandable - which is why I always call this system "Usucko". Who ever said that the system names can't have silent letters?
Arrr, CONCORD be a harsh mistress.
