You gave me a big smile with this one because i must agree, i'm having more fun with this whole forum or IG "Blink" than playing my char.

These reasons are for me why Eve stands out from the competition as no other MMO offers the freedom Eve has nor has severe consequences for actions. For me, the ability to lose expensive ships and mods make the game, breath excitement into pvp. Without risk there's little reward and that's what other gaming company's don't get.
For many, the possibility of losing something you spent 12 months getting to because of ingame mechanics that means you had no choice over the encounter (pvpppppppp) and had no chance of ever succeeding at (pve vs pvp fit) just isn't fun, especially when you can only play for a few hours per week.
Different? Yes! Stand out from the crowd? Yes! Better? Not necessarily!

Well, yeah, that's my point - 'why Eve stands out from the crowd'
In my opinion these are some of the features that make Eve great - obviously if you don't like free form pvp and losing your stuff -> there's wow/star trek online/generic MMO. Many MMOs have come and gone whilst Eve has grown from strength to strength - I'm not disagreeing that Eve isn't a niche game, it is, but that's what keeps a lot of us here. Sure Eve doesn't have the huge player base WoW has - I say quality over quantity.
Today an often cited criticism of the games industry is that of churning out the same old c**p, no originality - rehash old games/clone a successful competitor. Most of the MMOs out there are completely unremarkable - Eve is a totally different beast and props to CCP for creating and maintaining a fantastically different MMO.

This, if Eve ever loses one of those aspects the entire game will fall apart.

I would never vote for EVE to be the Most Improved in 2010; Tyrannis was an atrocity with its horrible clicking extractor interface and complete lack of population control, making both the naming and the trailer for the expansion one big joke. While Incursions promises to fix some of these issues and have other good features, what was released of the expansion in 2010 was not impressive either (January 2011 release is not 2010).
You would have to be a fool or nanve fan boy to believe EVE to be the MMORPG that improved most in 2010. Now 2011 on the other hand, looks to have some awesome stuff coming up starting already tomorrow.
Still, EVE is THE best MMORPG out there.

First of all, you're doing the huge mistake of mistaking facts with opinion. When, at any time, someone does that it renders the rest of their post void. I will give you the benefit of a doubt this time around though.
Secondly, what is a "casual noob" anyway? I hope you don't think a casual player is the same thing as an ignorant one.
I don't play WoW or Eve for the same reasons but I have fun with both games. They're the best at what they're supposed to do (ie Fantasy and Scifi).

Well, it certainly helps that the competition is anaemic copy-cat products with no souls and that the only 'major' newcomers fell flat on their faces.
Next year will be much more interesting as StarWars gets a proper game (copy-cat or no, huge following) and GW gets its Version 2.0.

Edited by: ILikeMarkets on 17/01/2011 16:05:40 That is sad for warcraft in so many ways it isn't even funny. 1% of WoW's playerbase is larger than the pb of most online MMOs, including EVE. Yet, they couldn't even get 1% of their pb to either agree that the game was the best or be bothered to take 5 whole minutes to log into MMORPG.com to vote. Talk about having a garbage community, WoW. lol.

Still, I have to say, you hit a nail on the head here. It gets VERY embarrassing hearing some of the people on here talk about WoW and it's players like that. It makes us look like the ugly kid on the playground ragging on cool kid out of jealousy. Luckily, only a small portion of our community is that pathetic, so it doesn't reflect THAT much on us. But it still does, a little.
