Finally hopped in today. Must say I think i've found a game to suck up my time...for the long haul...MMO long Haul.
More of a thinking mans shooter (yeah yeah sim...whatever) You need to think things through. Take terrain into account, weather, weapons range, and how your mech actually performs. (This is actually huge in terms of game play.)
Before hand you need to tinker with your mech or strip it all the way down to make certain fits work. (Dual or triple ballistic fits)
Cons... Figuring certain things out like weapons damage, ranges, and what variants support what isn't offered up. Folks had to go through the XML files and publish them. Same goes for in matches... "Base under attack" really means some guy in a Jenner is sitting in an imaginary box. Graphics aren't bad... And to the credit they run well (though cry engine 3 was developed and refined by someone else) However there aren't a whole lot of options to tweak. So for a guy with a faster rig; i'd like to tweak it to make it look even better.
There's also classic weapons balance issues. Nothing is crazy over powered rather some stuff is just..."why would I fit that?"
It is F2P, but the benefits are in terms of xp modifier, c-bills, and when released cosmetic features. Nothing to do with weapons/mechs.
Reminds me of combat in eve on a fundamental level.... Except you aim, and "truly pilot". Allegedly they're suppose to make it so factions and others fight over territory... We'll see. As of now it's instanced. Generally an awesome experince; wher |

I played the old single player mech warrior games, even some of the really old dos versions, and it was good games. I'll probably try on online version, but i think it may be to twitchy for me.

Didn't reveal anything super special other than my experience...(or in previews) Also dont really care about it... (Just my feelings on NDA's in video games.)
Anyway. It's honestly not all that twitchy of game play. Haven't tried out the scout mechs. (Which can be really annoying.) However I found taking time to line up shots at critical areas to be more effective than spamming shots...And with limited ammo or heat you can't go buck wild any who.
Lot of variables and team work required to be truly successful already ace scout pilots stand out, and interesting configurations shine. Unlike say a FPS where often times 1-2 really good people can carry a team; that's not going to be the case here.

Being a big fan of the mechwarrior series I'll be getting into it when it comes out. I want to see if I can build my sniper scouts again. Back in MW4 I took all 4 of the 20 ton's, strip them almost entirely of armor, gave them speed and a jetpack, equipped them with large lasers, and turned off their radar. The purpose behind them was that they can blitz in and make crippling shots, then be up and over a building before the enemy mech really has a chance to react. The Radar was kept off so that missiles couldn't track ya either. |

MWO was not designed to run on the ppc cpu :) GÇ£The best way to keep something bad from happening is to see it ahead of time, and you can't see it if you refuse to face the possibility.GÇ¥-á |

Meh... Technically earlier I didn't... And above I only told you about a bug. You can go on the site they have the mech hard points displayed for all. After that takes a little brain power to figure out to strip down and fit... And once again I dont care about silly Beta NDA's... Especially when the developer releases the same info for all to see. (The only thing they dont like you revealing is which new mech they finally finished...Which they then release a video of it a week later...)
So scold me if you will, but eh... I'm just spreading the good mech warrior gospel. |

You might not care but you can still be prosecuted for violating one, plus the Dev Team are ALLOWED to release the same data; it's their game. |

Here's the video for the upcoming Mechawarrior. Don't mind the Xbox title, it's the same thing on pc as well. What you are seeing is a 'workhorse' medium-heavy tracking down a scout and then having a oh **** moment when it walks into the chest of a super.
I can't really compare the 2 as I've refused to play WOT, but I've been through all of the mechwarriors and I've always have had a blast with them. I do know that the 2 share a lot of common traits like area specific damage, interchangeable load outs, and weight divisions. Like I said up above, back in 4 I took up fielding the light mechs with practically no armor and I loaded them down with heat sinks and the biggest guns available. Not the best idea but it was fun to zip around and make crippling shots.
Plus I guess I could state the obvious, you're piloting a mech man. Doesn't get any better than that. If anything I would compare it more with that other mech game that everyone claims is like eve. |

Never played WOT. But from others who did they say it's a rush to get to the top tier and then stay there. Here more weapons/mechs have different uses, and advantages. Well that's the idea. (Mostly true see balancing statement) But I guarantee light mech can survive or medium mechs can take out heavies or assaults. Larger mechs can field more guns or more armor, but there is no "exclusive" weapon (fitting issues aside).
Also no "golden ammo". Just quicker xp or convert to game credit for mechs, items, looks etc. |

I'm not in the beta sadly. I'm a bit scared it'll be too much aimed at the zero attention span console clowns rather than actually trying to depict heavy, unwieldy beasts of steel. If it's too fast paced it'll be "just another shooter", looking at some of the vids the whole movement system seems to be a bit bland and simplified. Amat victoria curam. |

Not really a shooter... The only fast if you're in a fast mech. The videos are all cut to be action oriented. If you just run in you will die very very quickly unless your a good scout pilot to avoid fire and find cover. You have to be fairly cautious unless you're in a 100 ton mech. Not sure how complex a mech warrior control scheme has ever been... throttle, movement, torso... Been like that in every mech game i've played. |

I also remember radar controls, coolant, reactor on/off, squad command (single player), and weapon grouping. Most of the controls fit on the force feedback that I had, I remember that much. |

No radar..not yet (controls) . Can power down, and can group weapons. Command stuff is getting implemented, but I think most people use VC. But the other games I remember all similar controls even on the PS1. |
